For the money of a Grand Design, they should be using Azdel. Lance uses it inside and out. Granted - they don't make giant 5th wheels or toy haulers but Brinkley and Alliance do and they use Azdel. Come on, GD!
Can't find the Drand Design power system reviews you noted in video. When it was 20degrees w/o power and how they weren't selling it until it was right. Where is that video review ?
Took a tour of Grand Design in 2022. Austin was our tour guide. He is real value to the company. He is very passionate about the product. We own and are very happy with our GD Reflection 150 260RD.
Very good tour! With all the delam talk in the presentation, I’d really like to know why they don’t use Azdel in walls which would never delaminate. Winnebago converted to Azdel, and they own Grand Design, so there’s knowledge within the company of what’s needed to use it.
Using Azdel doesn't guarantee that water won't penetrate the wall structure but its true that it won't absorb water like luan does. Unfortunately, I haven't seen anyone discuss what happens if water does penetrate an RV wall that has Azdel laminated in the inside and outside of the structure.
@@allan6021 I use to believe the Lance marketing hype about Azdel until I saw a newer, used Lance at the dealership with wall delamination. The dealer explained that caulking maintenance is still required. I do prefer Azdel over cheap plywood but until they invent a system that doesn't rely on temporary sealants, we're left with perpetual maintenance with goopy patches.
Was just down there at 6am this morning dropping off our camper for delam. Funny cause I didn't have time to stay for a tour today and see you guys posting the video. We've had the camper for 3.5yrs and started to have bubbling and they took care of it still. Hoping that and the ongoing awning tilt gets fixed. Love Grand Design and for sure happy they covered the delamination even after being outside the 3yrs.
I liked the video and how much quality is put into the grand design, so I’m wondering why am I seeing videos with the outside screws breaking off. We just bought a 2018 2950 RL and I’m worried about mine breaking off. Do you think GD will cover any repair on the screws
Thanks for inviting us on this tour, very informative, always open to learning more about the products out there. Hope you can exit the the winter weather soon and find the the warm sunny places to visit. Happy Trails.
I have a question about the "wood stuffed" aluminum. We all know that aluminum windows build up condensation so how long with the wood survive with condensation inside the aluminum tubes?
I have seen corners of a slideout floor rotten from condensation aluminum framing sweating. Cold weather and heating the rig . I can't imagine the framing having wood in them unbelievable.
We purchased are 2021 31G in May. We love it, last year we went to 14 Off Road Parks. We have made 2 small claims . 1. Glass top on the range. 2. Tv going out. That’s is IT… I’m just amazed how good this thing is. Are local dealer is great to. We feel very lucky to have a Grand Design . We looked for over a year touring dealership. Thank you Grand Design….
When I get ready to buy a camper I know what company to look for so I know it's made right. Thanks For good info and hard work that helps a lot and puts peace pf mind.
Love the updated Tour!! I ordered a new Momentum being built starting early to mid-January 2023, it was great to see the new techniques they are rolling out with. I owned an imagine first and now with the new rig I added some of your suggestions from your videos. Can't wait till more videos of your new rig come out. Have a great year everyone!
WOW, the young gentleman knows his stuff. Wish they would be so focused on quality, durability and grand design ;) in South Africa as well. Brilliant product. Love it.
Chad and Tara I appreciate the tour of Grand Design and that young fellow Austin he was very informative in this tour. Austin's dad should be proud of him. I was looking for an Air Stream but ya'll have got me going toward Grand Design. Yall be safe
Excellent video guys, I'm glad GD let you fils their processes. Next time I'm in Elkhart I want to go the factory tour. I owe a 2023 Reflection 150 226RK, love it.
Nice to hear and see that they are working for improvement. Last November I purchased a new 2023 Imagine XLS 23LDE. My Wife fell in love with the floorplan! After taking delivery and 2 outings, I found some quality issues. 1. Rear door screen frame hits hard on the door opening frame. Very difficult to closed the door. I guess I will schedule a 90mile trip to the dealer to get fixed. 2. The wall panel between the theater seating and the fridge has come loose at the rear connection point. Will try to get this fixed on the same dealer visit trip. 3. The front grey tank pull handle fell off somewhere on my return to home trip! I already ordered a new one and put it on. 4. Found a ty-wrap pinched between the floor and chassis frame just above the driver side rear tire. I will just cut it off.
Great tour! Enjoyed watching the process. Wondering how they attach the 3/8 decking to the roof trusses? Do they staple it, or use screws? Thanks, Have to return to packing for Tampa now….
I like the way they mounted my ladder crooked then moved it over straight and filled the holes with caulk, or the fridge door falling off cause of plastic hinges, sink fell out cause of bad silicone job, gas lever leaked to switch between the 2 different tanks, floor has a cut in it but they say I did it the day I got home, didn’t even start loading it yet, the handle for the rear tank was mounted on a thin piece of metal that fell off and was dragged down the street, that was fun to replace, dealer didn’t fix anything they said they can’t fit me in before the warranty was up, all in the first year. Thanks Grand design
Absolutely awesome video. Showed it to my buddy that is trying to narrow down to a good mfg and this video sold him for sure!!!! Keep up the great work love your videos
Great video with valuable information. We have a 5th wheel Reflection and absolutely love it. Your video has me really considering attending the GD national rally in September. Thanks for sharing your tour!!
we bought our 2021 reflection 150 29rl new and absolutely love it. two years no issues use it 2-3 weekends a month in the summer and take it for a week vacation at least once a year. could not be happier.
Hey guy’s, love the video’s. I work for the company that made a lot of the yellow work platforms and frame rotators as well as the hoist systems. Look for the PWI logos. Look forward to more great videos.👍
Thanks guys. This was awesome. I'm glad I watched this in full. A friend of ours just ordered a GD Solitude trailer model. We'll definitely look into Grand Designs when we're ready to go to this level. Thanks again!
What a great video! So interesting to see the framing, roof trusses, etc as they’re being built. Could come in handy one day, for dyi projects, as I’m sure you’ve found out, Chad and Tara. Thanks to GD for the tour also!
Hey people's,great to see construction being explained and the testing . What I would ask is that maybe they could tackle the complaints , criticism that are often directed towards manufacture in general , especially about construction quality ,chassis longevity, suspension quality or lack of ,can they do a review of the main problems they as manufactures face and how they deal with them . Watching you last video about installing add ONS ,poo line hoses and valve ,door screen ,and the step tread inserts ,I was sort of surprised that it wasn't done at the factory
Great video, very informative and reassuring to see the building and inspection process since we ordered a Momentum 336 M/R Toy Hauler in December. We researched and looked at a look of other manufactures, read reviews both good and bad about customer service and Grand Design always seemed to be the best. Our rig should be on the line now and we will pick it up from the dealer at the end of February. We are so looking forward to getting out on the road and hope to someday see Chad and Tara at a meetup, they really have had a huge influence on our journey to this point.
Awesome! Hope you enjoy yours! That model is actually at the top of my short list when I buy one as well. I'm planning to full time, and just need a small space for my motorcycle. Glad to see this company take pride in putting out a quality product, so even though it might be more expensive than some others you're getting something made a bit better too
Thank you for the in depth tour. I am relatively new in the rv sales career and I had the opportunity to go to the Jayco factory down the street (my dealership is Jayco exclusive) so I found it incredibly helpful and informative to see the differences in the construction process of a competitor to me. Its a fascinating topic!
I ordered my Solitude 310GK two weeks ago. I got every option available except the outdoor kitchen. The main reason that I went with Grand Design was that when I called to ask a million questions, Austin is the one that answered the phone. Over several weeks, Austin answered every question I could dream up, made suggestions, and gave me his opinions. He was friendly, knew his product, and made me very comfortable spending my money on it. That level of customer service is what sold me. Tell his Dad that he should be very proud of that young man. Thanks for all of your help Austin, now get my unit built so I can head out in it this spring!
Still happy with my purchase. I have had some small issues, but GD customer service has taken care of them without a question. I’ve put about 7,000 miles on it so far. Heading out to Quartzsite Arizona this week for my first GD owners rally.
Been watching your videos since you started the channel and you never fail to inform watchers just another great detailed video. Wish you guys the best and safe travels. ❤.
We purchase a GD Reflection about a year ago. Our first ever travel trailer. I enjoyed the factory tour and information presented. I caught the roof support as 16-inch on center. What dimension and type lumber is used for the roof support?
Truly amazing, well done...Traveling through the country, most if not all, RV dealer lots are FULL...It's crazy to think there's an ongoing appetite and demand for brand new RV's...
Awesome tour. I'm currently in a 2021 Reflection but am considering trading up to a Momentum. I'm glad they put so much care into the production process. Thanks for the tour!!
I have seen a few videos on the GD roof covering separating and blowing off. Actually had a manager at rv park tell me a Brand new GD came into to the park with the roofing lament hanging off the roof. I saw one TH-cam video of a repair tech explaining that not enough glue was used and the wind gets under the material and will peel it off. This issue is pretty concerning, might be pretty low Occurrence but still shouldn’t happen in my view. The video I saw the roofing material looks paper thin. I didn’t see in the video that they covered the material used? Does anyone know if this problem has been corrected??
During the summer in SE Texas, I use reflectext in 11 windows in my 2019 Jayco Northpoint 385thws. The reflectext makes a huge difference in keeping out hot 105 plus degree temps!!
This was cool to see how they build them. We purchased a reflection 324mbs this past September. We have just a few minor things to get looked out after our first long trip to florida from nw arkansas. One thing they need to address and i believe they are is the tankless water heater issue. It is really not compatible with a 4 season camper as they sell.
Thanks for the great video I like most of what I see but I do have concerns with all the openings in the walls they say that use tape at the connections what about the window, door, and basement door openings I see a lot of coaches delaminate due to windows leaking all the penetrations should be water tight and the corners of all the same openings the gaping holes what gives talk about channeling the cold. And if they are so well built why not give a 10 year warranty against delamination? I have never seen on delaminat in 3 years ,now 10-20 years that's when I see the windows leak .
The true test is time. Our previous 1996 Itasca was still tight and solid when we moved up to a loose as a goose 2013 Tiffin in 2020. Some of these newer rigs are just as the man said - you can push on the walls and see the flex.
When is the Volta stuff going to be available to order? I haven't seen any mention of it on the website in the various floorplan/options areas or the build-and-price pages.
great tour, plant looks clean! I just bought 2023 Jayco 4113. Is it customary for manufactures to leave every cut outs, saw dust, wire clippings, trash and debris in the enclosed areas behind panels? If grand design does not do this I will be buying one in a couple years!
I know Grand Design is a great company and this isn't a knock against them but just the industry in general. But it's funny how no matter what factory tour you watch, they all try to sound unique when they really are all the same. As a custom home builder and remodeler of 35 years, it pains me how poorly these are really insulated. There are so many gaps in floor insulation and cap insulation for example, just kind of tossed in with no real care. Also any given wall is 20% framing material and being hollow aluminum means a lot of cold spots. It would be nice if a manufacturer could shoot insulation inside the aluminum. Anyway, I could go on but I'll end it here.;-)
I’m also from the same field and mostly do interior trim. I also feel the same way when it comes to these RV’s. We will be buying one this next summer and it’s hard to want to pay out for as much as they are charging for these things. I feel they aren’t worth anything close to what they charging since they are pretty much just thrown together. Quality really kinda sucks and it doesn’t matter what kind you go into.
I have been a custom home builder for 30 yrs also , I have been trying to get the rv industry use spray foam for a few yrs now and fill the tubing, and yes aluminum is light how it transfers the cold and the heat ! And there water infiltration is so bad it is sickening! And you have an r-11 wall but all those windows are a r2 !
When they same weld they only weld one contact point on their aluminum wall and front nose wal , so as it rolls now the road and twist and moves the one weld breaks , just picture twisting a aluminum can and breaking it that’s what happens
I’m a former designer from the automotive industry and I find it funny how they tout the wood backer for attachment supports because “it’s your house rolling down the road” and it’s “like going through a hurricane”. When are they going to treat these like cars rolling down the road? 3 whole years of warranty for delaminating. Lol. Cheap build and trying to sell customer support doesn’t fix that. So many better ways to build for vehicle dynamics and long term durability. Check out Click Bond. That’s how you attach things to aluminum. Do any of these 100k plus trailers come with shocks?
I wish Grand Design (and the entire RV industry) would use PEX A in all the plumbing. That would make it so much easier on everyone, newbies and pros alike, regarding repairs. The parts would be available on every corner and there would be no confusion on what to buy for repairs. Not sure why they use "RV" standard PEX instead of making it easier on everyone. I would also like to see the price difference for axles with drum brakes versus disc brakes. At least make it an option at the factory instead of taking a brand new RV to an after market vendor to get the axles and brakes you want. Grand Design makes some very impressive RV's. Great tour; thanks a lot.
Thanks for the awesome tour. I found it interesting that they recently started powder coating the frame. We have a 2022 Solitude that was delivered last February. The frame has rust on it. 😢
We had that surface rust on our 397 but it never hurt anything. I'd planned on getting some of that rust neutralizing spray paint but never got around to it.
Thank you for braving the knights watch cold and giving us a good factory tour. I Don’t know if you are aware of Sun Reef Yachts Eco models. They have integrated solar cells in the hulls, top decks and even masts. I would love to see those innovations brought over to the RV industry. yes it will be expensive at first. but isn’t all new innovations ? Thanks again!
Well they need to address their wall issues on the reflection line, not to mention the crappy schwintek slide out problems, step up and make it right with the customer, I’m one of them.
Awesome tour guys! Love watching your channel and seen the momentum 336 M I’m interested in the background. Can’t wait to see one in person. Respectfully, Julius Olguin US Navy Chief (Retired) CVMA 23-8
Yes, luan plywood can hold screws well but if it ever gets wet, game over. I'm not sure why you are not using Azdel in and out.
For the money of a Grand Design, they should be using Azdel. Lance uses it inside and out. Granted - they don't make giant 5th wheels or toy haulers but Brinkley and Alliance do and they use Azdel. Come on, GD!

This was so fun and interesting! Learned lots of new things.
Excellent! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the tour! Very interesting...

Really a great tour and thank you for sharing it with us.
We have a 2021 M-351 toy hauler now for 2 1/2 years and just love it! Awesome Product!
We simply LOVE our new 23LDE. It is EXACTLY what we were lokking for !!!
Exceptional video. I had a trailer dealership and was in boat industry. A factory really shows the real dna of a unit. See you this weekend in Tampa!
This was great to see. Our 397 rolls out of the factory tomorrow so i'm kinda curious if it's in this video! Thanks for the great tour!

Sounds like you are just another happy customer who will be going back again... and again... and again.
I had GD send me parts even after the warranty was up. They go out of their way compare to other manufacturers.
Impressed!
Absolutely awesome video. Showed it to my buddy that is trying to narrow down to a good mfg and this video sold him for sure!!!! Keep up the great work love your videos
And ask Lance why he didn’t go to military attention when the Big Brass showed up 😂😂😂

We went through there a couple years ago, very impressed!
Hopefully they can fix the frame cracking problems.
That frame does not look that strong
They just increase their frame warranty up to 5 years now for any owner.

Any updates on your purchase?

@@troybratusek2716 , uhhhh, it doesn't even have 10K miles on it, and you are already having problems with it? Geesh
My '22 397the-r must have missed the PDI building. My rig was built left front down. Bedroom and front doors self close.
Been watching your videos since you started the channel and you never fail to inform watchers just another great detailed video. Wish you guys the best and safe travels. ❤.
Great video thanks
Very nice tour. If you ever get a chance you should tour a car plant. You would be amazed. Very neat experience. Maybe tour your truck plant.
Instructive! Lance is right on but Austin is going places, seems to know all the ins n outs of the business.😲 A bright n handsome young man.

Nice, informative tour.
Chad in the interview you were told that the powder coat started in May. By the weather outside, am I correct in assuming May 2023?
When is the Volta stuff going to be available to order? I haven't seen any mention of it on the website in the various floorplan/options areas or the build-and-price pages.
Not sure, but we will announce it when it happens.
Thank you that was very informative
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
I wonder why they don’t use rigid foam insulation in the floor over batt fiberglass
great tour, plant looks clean! I just bought 2023 Jayco 4113. Is it customary for manufactures to leave every cut outs, saw dust, wire clippings, trash and debris in the enclosed areas behind panels? If grand design does not do this I will be buying one in a couple years!
@@KMT15 it blows my mind!
Have you ever looked at Luxe? And if you have, what are your thoughts?
When I (rick) used to work at Beaver Motor Coaches in the late 1990’s we had the same build and pdi requirements
Cool , I'm from Indiana that's why I am in Florida to cold👍👍
That was awesome to see. Great job guys
I really hope their quality goes up, I like our Momentum but it seems like it was put together overseas!
Grand Design will go out of business before their quality goes up!
I just bought the new 27MAV last month (June 16th). I know it is the entry level Momentum but this vid gave me some piece of mind. Thank you.
Congrats on the new RV!
I'll bet Austin's dad is very proud of his son. Lance is a cool dude as well:-) Kudos to both the guys.
Does GD have plans to come out with a solor solution like Keystones solarflex where you can pick the amount of solar you want?
Anything later than 2019 are not Quality products as before .we love our 2014.369rl
great tour.
Austin and Lance have accepted ownership of their jobs and are definitely assets to Grand Design. Wow! What dedication. Well done.
They both need too be put on a job.
GREAT VIDEO TO BAD THEY DON'T NUMBER EACH WIRE ,AND TIE THEM UP NEAT !!!!
The same with all the water lines. Looks super messy and hard to track which is which
Thanks for the awesome tour.
How long does it take to build one ?
Thank you for braving the knights watch cold and giving us a good factory tour. I Don’t know if you are aware of Sun Reef Yachts Eco models. They have integrated solar cells in the hulls, top decks and even masts. I would love to see those innovations brought over to the RV industry. yes it will be expensive at first. but isn’t all new innovations ? Thanks again!
What’s the warranty on frame flex?
thanks
would be nice if lippert would add 11ga metal fenders over the axles to protect the rig during a blowout
Well they need to address their wall issues on the reflection line, not to mention the crappy schwintek slide out problems, step up and make it right with the customer, I’m one of them.
The Schwintek slides work much better if you upgrade the motors, they have a lot more torque. They cost about $75 each on Amazon.
Awesome tour guys! Love watching your channel and seen the momentum 336 M I’m interested in the background. Can’t wait to see one in person.

Are they using the same R rating insulation for all there units?
Not sure, but they put the R-values on the details of each RV onine...
I wonder if they could use rockwool, ask them it’s a better insulator and has great water and fire protection if anything leaks or a fire
