    Finally someone has confirmed how battening is attached to the inside, by glueing. Nobody seems to have mentioned it previously. Thanks

      I know what you mean. It’s been overlooked on video on a lot of fit outs. I show everything - how I’m doing. Thanks for watching 👍🏼

      @@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt I thought maybe the battening was screwed to small metal plates that were wheled to the steel of narrowboat or glued, so thanks for addressing it. I'm going to watch some more now.

    When you get to battoning around the floor area, I'd consider putting some fire proof board, on the inside of where the anodes live. To keep anything combustible away from the hull at that area. And avoid the risk of a fire when it comes toime to weld on new anodes.
    I'm not a boater, but watching lots of narrowboat channels, I cringe when people show welding being done. (I've set fire to cars that way. Not nice!)

      Setting fire to plastic or oil-soaked rust behind thin car steel I’ll believe, but wood against 5-6mm thick steel? Really?

    Been asking the question..... Install an extra-large pump out tank its the same price to empty a small tank as a large tank.

    I'm unclear about how the anodes work to keep rust away from the hull. I know they're sacrificial in nature, designed to rust, but how does that stop rust forming on the hull? Can you explain?.

      I'm not 100% sure but I believe they are a metal that is easier to rust/corrode and so the corrosion will work there instead of on the hull if that makes sense ?

    The more I watch these types of videos, I'm confronted by a common theme which is why do people insulate the bilges? for one they sit below the water line so will be a constant temperature regardless of how much insulation that you use, secondly any insulation would wick moisture up to the sole and thirdly maintenance is way more expedient and not least because you don't have flammables sitting beneath the sole. Surely a simple moisture barrier would be way more effective?

    Is the tank in the boat the toilet waste tank.

      gary costello no no no - it’s the water tank. It’s 450 litres so it’s enough toilet capacity for everyone on the canal - what a lovely thought !!

    Question: When a Narrowboat is being ‘blacked’ do they do the underneath (under the floor)!of the boat as well or just do the sides?

    • @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt
      @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sean Buttimer 2 schools on thought on that Sean. On one hand you should black it because it’s a large surface in the water on the other hand it’s often not done because the underneath is usually the least likely to suffer any rust as no air can get to the underside whereas the sides have the mix of water and air

      @@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt have you decided which option you’ll take?

      Jasper Janssen I’m definitely not blacking the underneath of my Narrowboat !
