Next video - Best friend buys me a new clutch
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Best friend installs new clutch for me while I supervise
A good thing that has helped me teach people, is if you let the clutch out slow enough, you don’t even need to touch the gas. The car won’t die and it will just go. That really helps get a feel for the clutch and how it works/feels. Then learning to add the gas pedal to the equation is smooth sailing 🤙🏼
Good tip right here 🫡
Was looking for this comment. 🙌 Enaging the clutch with no gas was the only thing that really helped everything click for me. Also the only way I teach people. 🤣
That’s how my dad taught me too
facts
So sick, you're a great friend for letting your best friend do this in a WIDEBODIED SLAMMED IMMACULATE brz. Just a tip, I learned manual in a WRX. I've stalled more times than I can count especially on hills, going out alone at night definitely helped until I had to get a friend come save me because I stalled 10 times in the middle of a hill and was scared shitless of driving back in the city. My 'Tipping' or 'Awakening' moment was when I played with reverse. So just putting it in reverse and feeling the car move a little and then pecking the gas paddle for it to move a little. You'll eventually get the 'sensitivity' and feel for the clutch and gas combo and once you have a good gauge of that first gear will be much easier.
Also remember that when everyone says let the clutch out, it isn't really one linear motion. Think of the clutch as something for you to flirt with, Its more of a let out, hesitate half a second at the bite point and when you feel the car sort of tighten up let go of the clutch. You'll know when to let go of the clutch trust your instincts, just don't panic and floor the accelerator and dump the clutch.
The next thing will probably be shifting, so when you start off, remember in most cars shifting from 1 to 2 gear is likely going to be really sketchy. You'll feel the car jerk a lot when you let go of the clutch. So once again when you are letting go of the clutch going into second gear (just .5 seconds faster than you getting off from first), hesitate just a second at the bite point and let go when you feel the car tightening/grabbing. Subsequent gears you'll be okay to let go of the clutch quicker without much jerkiness. *Another tip, if you wanna be even smoother, apply just a TOUCH (like literally your feet just resting on the paddle slightly) of gas, it'll 'keep' your rpms steady when you eventually let go of the clutch.
When you're on hills this will probably be your nightmare. Try to practice it outside your house on a incline. Instead of going up, try reversing backwards up the hill. This will let you learn clutch control REAL QUICK. It's the same normal process as reversing that you're giving more gas and playing a game of keep the rpms above 1k if not you're going to stall by spanking the gas paddle about 1k rpms each time. Try to keep it below 2k rpms if not you're just wearing out your clutch for nothing although it sounds cool. If you feel like the car is not moving enough, let out a cm more of clutch you should feel it come alive.
Downshifting is probably your next frustration to get smooth. Everyone will be telling you to rev match but you have to know how it feels to downshift without rev matching in order to know the purpose of rev matching so don't rush yourself. I'd recommend to try downshifting from 3rd to 2nd before anything because 2nd to 1st is basically pointless and bad for your transmission also its really going to be jerky unless you grandma the clutch out which is just cringey. So when you downshift from 3rd to 2nd, clutch in when you're about 2.5/2k rpms, shift to second gear and let out the clutch the same speed you shifted from 2nd to 3rd. You'll likely feel a huge jerk, if you do then let it out even slower. Your rpms should be about 3k now. (Remember when in doubt, CLUTCH THE FUCK IN)
So when you get the hang of this, you'd wanna learn rev matching pretty quickly. Oh my god I stressed over this and watched million of feet cam videos learning how to do it. I was horrible as first and felt like I hurt my car ALOT. I still don't see many good videos teaching how to properly rev match. So I'll explain to the best of my abilities and when you watch feet cams of rev matching you'll understand why its done. So remember how slow and cautiously you had to downshift earlier without rev matching? This is because your rpms are trying to catch up to a higher rpm. When you rev match, all you're doing is helping your rpm needle fly up and land on the right rpms into the lower gear, instead of the rpms climbing up.
So rev match, how I managed to FINALLY be comfortable with rev matching is from 4th to 3rd gear. This gear is much more friendly compared to 3rd to 2nd. So when you rev match, all you're doing is helping the rpms stay high until you manage to catch it. Think of it as floating the rpms in between shifting to help your transmission and passengers stay happy. There are millions of ways to do this but here's how I did it.
So when in 4th gear at 2.5/2k rpms, Clutch in, BOOP the throttle about 1k (depending on your throttle sensitivity, but 1k in general), shift into third and let go of the clutch till the bite point and hold it there for a SPLIT second before letting it out. You'll probably be like what the fuck but remember its the same process as a normal downshift but just adding a BOOP in between. *Another tip if you wanna make it a smooth transition when you're doing this coming to a stop and not downshifting to get on it faster, is that as you're letting out the clutch, lightly get on the brakes. Feel the clutch and car grabbing and let go of it.* *IF you're downshifting to go faster, before you let go of the clutch completely, unite the motion of getting on the gas when you're at the bite point about to let the clutch up., as soon as your feet kisses the gas slightly remove the clutch, think of it like you're feeling the 'gaps' from transition gears.
Not going to get much into heel-toe but this will likely happen naturally when you're sick of exiting a corner so slowly. I started doing it because I hated getting on and off my brakes in between rev matches, but this is for when you're comfy with normal rev match downshifts.
Learning manual will feel nothing like driving your auto car, this will change your perspective of driving forever. So approach it like you're a newbie to driving with the advantage of knowing how to steer a vehicle. Enjoy the process and don't stress about how much you're going to hurt your clutch. Clutches generally don't wear out that quickly unless you rev RPMs to 5k and dump the clutch. The moment the clutch touches the flywheel it will burn in a second. Don't hold the bite point and rev more than 2k rpms for more than 5 seconds as well, or that's the general rule of thumb anyway.
I'm not a expert in driving, I'm just a average Joe that obsessed and stressed about learning how to drive stick, watching millions of videos and reading tons of TH-cam comments and forums. Lastly, enjoy the process, congratulations I'm proud that you made the decision to pick up driving stick. This is truly a lost art and truly teaches what driving really is all about, you manually operating the vehicle. Sorry for it being so lengthy but when I was learning I'd read a whole bible on manual driving tips if there was one. Anyways have fun driving and stay safe, don't panic. Remember, when in doubt CLUTCH THE FUCK IN.
W comment bro for REAL. im getting a 19+ sti in august before im 20 and i praticed in my homies 2021 sti and im getting the hang of it! what i worry abt now is just going from 0 to 1st gear in traffic without panicking and stalling and just hills, but once i get it TRUST imma be out all night practicing trying to get better at revmatching, hills and all that so it feels second nature
@@bhrriss Get it bro! Panic is normal, but fuck the person behind you, don’t let them get to you🤙🏻
@@acephua3806 thats what my homie said at the red light!!😭 haha appreciate u man fr imma do it🤞🏼
I fw this bro because I taught my homie how to drive manual , now he daily’s a si … def fw this
I learned on a WRX and the first half hour or so I just tried finding the bite point without giving it any gas. The thing that helped me the most was driving it by myself at night. I also just sat parked and shifted through the gears without looking to practice and get that muscle memory.
That was what really helped me when I was learning as well
I'm going to try and learn in a 2020 wrx and I've seen videos saying it's not for beginners so we'll see how it goes 😂😂
@Qt baba I did the same and it was not bor beginners 😢😂
@@qtbaba4610my tip is that 2500 rpm is the sweet spot to shift at
yessss driving alone helps so much!!
the way i taught my lil bro and gf to drive stick was find catch point first, then just hold it there then apply gas then slowly and smoothly let go of clutch while gas. Most of time when first starting off we release clutch too fast not knowing where the catch point is. After that it’s just about being smooth with it and practice. especially on them hills
Facts! Smooth is key.
“Im in love with the CoCo!!!” I was dying!!!!!! Thanks for the smiles Chris
LOL SAME 😂
i was throwin into traffic my first lession. but no gas just clutch n getting it to roll is what helped me learn. going up hill will be fun to watch when he has to hold the clutch at the bite point n the break n make the transition to the gas haha
You could’ve told him to release the clutch while his heel is on the floor. It’s much easier learning like that, it’s much complicated when people don’t say much details. Learned it so much harder because my uncle literally just told me the same thing balancing both pedals which is just a basic common sense and told me “feel the engine and that’s when you change gear” and I was 9/10 years old at that time lol. So it’s pretty much learned it by myself especially techniques to make it easier for myself and when I try to teach people, I tell them more details that will help them understand and learn to do it easier.
This is a good tip. 🤔🤔🤔
I remember I bought my sti without knowing to drive stick honestly not the best decision but took me a week and honestly it’s a big hassle but it’s so much fun once you learn I did the same things you did to learn man
yes dude facts! hard at first but so worth it after some practice!
Bro this reminds me of when I was learning stick shift with my dad. I was learning around this time last year too, bro this brings back so many memories.
🥹❤
Honestly when I learned to drive manual, I found it easier learning to balance the clutch and gas instead of holding the gas. Whenever it started to move when I held it I jerked it but it went much smoother balancing it, you don’t have to think as much as others say when you balance it, it’ll just come naturally you just need to get used to it

bet bet 🫡
The contact patch on these burnouts i'm weak 💀😂 homie gon learn !
LMAOO a little line 😂
you a real one for this brodie that clutch aint cheap but you still didnt let that stop you to teach someone to learn 💪🏽💪🏽 THATS A REAL FRIEND
Most aftermarket clutches will be too light to just grab the clutch and then throttle. A good way to learn is to give the gas a quick short stomp, then find the clutches bite point, then add throttle as it grabs
hella facts
I feel his pain lol, my brother taught me how to drive stick in his modded 1989 Camaro 😂. I couldn’t even tell you how many times I stalled the car on the first day, but it’s all part of the learning process and with practice it will come naturally.
Only good friends would allow this…amazing content ..let’s see part 2 🤟🏾🤟🏾
betttt working on it ! 🎉
A good tip i told my friends was that when they feel the car start to grab/move i tell them to let the clutch marinate at the bite point a couple seconds before fully releasing
A good way I learned how to get going in first gear was to tap the gas while releasing the clutch
This is awesome, another addition to the manual family🤙
I remember my 1st time, learned in an 02 wrx and then bought my 2013 frs back in ‘17, I watched TH-cam vid tutorials for like 2 weeks and decided to practice 20min before going to work while my mom took me😂 and then 6 days later I learned, basically a total of 3hrs I learned
Weekend Upload Let’s go! You know you’re homies when you let them practice manual on your car! Love the video Chris! ❤
Yessir! Always down to teach the homies. 🫡
Yes for part 2 ! Dig all your videos
bet! part 2 coming soon!
You're a good friend homie. I learned on my friends 1972 fiat. It was awesome!
Ayy that’s sick!
i remember my homie teachin me it was such a nervous experience but definitely worth learnin !💯 keep it up !
facts bro! all worth it in the end.
i jumped timing in my friends rsx type s learning manual and i felt bad but i found out it was a common problem, but i have a pontiac fiero gt and i’ve been getting better at not stalling. great video btw 👍🏼
Love these videos ! Reminds me, this is how I found your channel teaching your girl in the frs 🔥🔥
Yooooo huge throwback!!!
The twins have a pretty soft clutch that makes it hard to feel the bite point, a lot of people remove the clutch spring that's on the pedal for this reason. My advice is just telling him to only use clutch to get the car rolling then add gas. First let the bite point of the clutch so it becomes muscle memory then advise him how to add gas for a quicker start etc.
This was too funny😂 brings back memories of me teaching my friend too😂 something that i found worked so well tho was just watching the rpm and trying to keep it just above 1k rpm. Maybe get him to give that a try🤙🏼
Oooo imma let him know on this! Good tip. 🤌🏻
@@chris_borges i gotchu bro, its always rough but it helps to not just hammer the accelerator or burn the clutch🤙🏼
part 2 would be sick dude #roadto100k
Bettt ❤
Definitely need a part 2 🤙
Tapping the gas to keep rpm’s up and slowly letting out helps starting from first as well. It helped me at least cause my WRX you can’t really feel the bite point just gotta know where it is.
yesssir w vid. alsoo i have the same camera as you and i have a recommendation. its a lens that i want to get its the Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 STM Lens :)
The sound of it when he drops to 2nd and 1st gear sounds so bick, like a loud whip haha
Bro this thing so loud 😂
sheeshhh chris was hittin those clips back in the day
good times 🥲
I remember i used to struggle when pressing the gas as the clutch engages, until a friend of mine was teaching me in his srt4, he told me not to press the gas, he said, let the clutch engage and the car will start moving slowly, then once its moving to then press the gas. It worked and made it easier. I daily a dct and dont have access to a manual car so im not fully a pro at it yet by any means.
Thanks for this tip! I’ll let my friend know for next time!
Love these videos bruh, he’s learning quick as a starter! It takes time but he’s getting there 🤟🏽❤️
thanks bro! ❤
Learned a lot from this video .Can’twait for the next one.Need to learn how to drive stick.👍
Ayyy glad it helped!
He gotten the basics now it’s up to time and practice
yessir! part 2
I learned by buying my first Honda civic manual, learned on my own for a while ngl I also stalled a few times in traffic the first day I got it lol but I got it! 😂 but my twin also took me too a parking lot showed me how to perfect my craft got the concept within 10-20min I was so happy lol but once you learn it’s with you basically. I also learned by driving different manual cars clutches are different they can be light or heavy. But I feel like it depends on what you want I guess, pt 2 on the way you can’t give up bro if I got it you can definitely do it 👊🏾💯
yessir bro practice makes perfect! all worth it in the end 🤝
One of the best way to learn stick shift the first thing is sit in the car and work on clutch and shifting before driving. Then parking lot. Then a regular road with no lights. Because the most nervous for beginners is at an intersection.
yessss intersections are the worst when learning 🤣
Yes we need a part 2!
Chris you got balls 😭my friends ask to drive my Z but I just got a new clutch put in and I am not ready for the destruction 😂
yessirrr another banger🗣️💯
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
This video was awesome!!
Thanks dude!
hold your foot more at an angle so your pushing the gas lever further on the bottom, it makes it easier to not push too much throttle. also, listen to the engine rather than stare at the tach, this way you can hear when you need to let off the clutch and also when to know when to shift.
Love youre videos man keep,it up!!!💪
Thank you!!
@Chris Borges - What is the color of this wrap? I need it lol.
pearl lavender
@@chris_borges Thanks brother! Love the content!!
@@chris_borges How much does a wrap like that run you? I want to get mine wrapped but I'm not sure how much it cost.
I got to start learning if I want a manual
We need part 2
@Chris Borges - What exhaust set up are you running now with the 22 BRZ? What's all in it? Exhaust plus headers?
Does the 2022 BRZ have auto rev match on the downshifts? and how does it work cuz I never owned a car that had it.
It does not
On the auto it does but not manual.
Damn I just got my license this still coming in clutch tho😏get it
Good luck bro!! 🎉
1:52 good ole MW2 days 😭
Broooo good times 😢
I got a 21 STI about a month ago and it’s my first manual. It was rough the first few days😂😂
Haha I bet! 😅 Gets easy over time tho.
bronze hoodie is cool af haha. need a homie with a manual willing to let me give it a go. last time I drove anything manual was a shitty fully stripped jeep we took to rock crawling events when I was like 9-10 lmao. I get too afraid to fuck up a friends clutch tho so idk if I'd even consider it now.
I need a friend like Chris. My homie doesn’t trust me laying a finger on his 5.0 mustang shifter💀
Lmaooo we gotta learn somehow! 😅
