Love Midi. I use a Voo Doo labs Ground Control for my VH4 which I am assuming I can use with this amp. One thing I wish they could do one day is let you tweak the knobs... (bass treble etc.) save it....then tweak them again, save it on another channel etc.
Much thanks for showing this and explaining! I am using mine with an MS-3 and it is great! I find that with the MS-3, it won't work with program changes. I have to use CC#s. With CC's, I can literally turn on and off anything via MS-3. An incredible sounding amp and so easy to take to gigs with the form factor it has.
Thank you so much for your video. I just bought myself a Mesa Boggie JP2 Special Edition and I´m so psyched about it. I also have the Boss ES 8 so your video was (again) of so much help to have it working out in little time. I basically watched all of your stuff and I love it. I kinda feel bad of not being able to somehow show some support for all your effort. If there is something you have ( like T-shirts, cups etc.) let me know. I´ll be more than happy to show my support and appreciation. Greetings from Germany René
Glad to hear my videos are helping you! I don't have any merch at the moment. If I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it right, ya know. If I ever get some going, it'll let you know. In the meantime enjoy that JP2C man, it is killer. And if you have any questions, or video ideas, let me know.
@@ManBunMetalHead Thank you so much. And please let me know whenever you´ll have some merch. I will be wearing it on one of our shows :-) Talk to you and all the best dude
Nice vid. Very informative. Would live to see you show an example of an es8 preset that changes amp channel and switches in or out an effect pedal. Are you using any midi controllable pedals? A combination of a midi message to the amp and a midi message to a pedal with pne preset would be interesting to see.
Great video. I struggled with this when setting up my FX8 with the JP-2C. I finally got it going by setting up some Control Changes as opposed to the Program Changes but it appears that the Program Changes seem to be more flexible.
Very helpful video and great channel. Have you tried the Cab Clone switches with the midi presets? I'm wondering if you'd be able to setup a preset that enables the SPKR off switch on the back so you can do Cab Clone DI or headphone playing without reaching behind the head. This would be helpful in a rack mounted rig.
+Man Bun Metal Head Thanks for the video, help me learn how to change my TC-50, same concept. But actually you can change more than 2 Controls (Ctrl1 & Ctrl2) per midi setting in the ES-8.
hi, friend!! I hope you are well, I have a question with this amplifier regarding how to use the equipment with headphones without the speaker playing, I do not want to have accidents with the amplifier, that is why I am asking you how to use it only with headphones to practice at night. To use with headphones should I leave the SPKR switch OFF? Is it correct to do it like this? or is it done another way??? I hope you can help me, I will be attentive, greetings from Chile!! 👍👍
Man Bun Metal Head please help! On your video at 3:22 when you pressed enter on the Boss Es 8 it said Midi message sending. When I press enter after setting the CC# and Value # it doesn’t say Midi message sending. Please help 😭😭😭
I am having a difficult time getting to JP-2C to remember things like turning the reverb on and off, eq 1 or 2. After I save the preset, the only thing that matters is whether the reverb switch is on or off. Any suggestions? I am using the EHX super switcher.
Other than making sure to switch to each setting at least twice before storing the patch, I'm not sure. I don't have any experience with the EHX. Maybe make sure the EHX isn't sending any CC's along with the PC.
I'm not sure the JP2C sends out MIDI signals, but can only pass them. If you're trying to pass the signal from another controller through the JP2C to the 2290. However, if you are using a MIDI controller for the JP2C you can't use the footswitch. Hope that helps.
Not quite there yet... We still need MIDI to save potentiometer settings to save us from a nervous breakdown when our woman clean the dust off of the amp and turn all the potentiometers... I hate that and I don't want to tweak potentiometers again once I've already found the sweet spot! THIS is the reason I am thinking about buying AXE FX 2 over this, but the sound/feel is better here...
i agree with you there. I was a little disappointed when I found out the pot settings weren't able to be controlled via MIDI. Doesn't change how ridiculously awesome this amp sounds.
@@ManBunMetalHead pot settings won’t be a thing to save for awhile especially from boogie amps , only the vhx and even that still has some digital to it and not 100 percent analog and hand wired
Man Bun Metal Head I don’t understand. I run my modulation effects into the back of my JP or any amp generally and leave any other effects in the front of the amp. Why would one turn the FX loop off? Penny has dropped for me yet. Cheers.
There are some instances where it could be useful. Maybe if you only wanted certain FX in the crunch channels and not the clean channel. I don't use it myself, since I use the ES-8.
What I do, I have some songs where I go from dirty rhythm with NO effects and need to instantly switch to a clean with delay on it. I put delay into the loop and leave it on and and the Mark V I assign, loop active, for the clean. So when I hit my clean the loop comes on with the delay on soo don’t have to hit my clean channel as well as hitting another button to turn clean on.
Like your Es-8 and JP-2c Vids. Have you thought of doing a Jp-2c 4cm to the Boss ES-8? I would also like to hear about sending Midi to another pedal and the Jp-2c at the Same Time. Thanks for the informative Video's
Thanks. Unfortunately, I do not have a 4CM, but I do plan on doing a video with the ES-8, JP-2C, and 2 - 3 other MIDI capable pedals in the next month. Hopefully it'll help you out.
If you check pg 15 of the ES-8 owner's manual, you can set this up with the four-cable method. Basically, you use the volume loop (V) in addition to the output. Vol Out (ES8) -> Amp In, FX Loop Send (Amp) -> Vol In (ES8), ES8 -> FX Loop Return (Amp)
Man Bun you go straight over this......how do you change the midi channel on The JP2C? Yes sure it’s a dial with 0-9 and some alphabet letters or whatever but how does one change it without damaging it ? The manual says just change it too....with what ? Screwdriver ? Fingernail ? I’m being dead serious. I can’t even get over this step bc no one tells you the way to do this.....they just say do it. Help a dumb guy out.
I adjust it with a small screwdriver. You could try with your fingernail but it might be tough to get it in there. There is very little resistance in the switch, so you shouldn't have any problems with it.
Man Bun Metal Head thank you so much ! Your videos have been the best on TH-cam ! Today I will set up my Mesa and get my clean, crunch and Lead channels saved. Then I will dive into the ES8. It’s going to take awhile but I’ll get it. Thank you for the great information even though I’m struggling. I will get this. Thank you.
Man Bun can I possibly get your email so I can ask you some specific questions without jamming up the comments section ? If not I Understand completely and I’ll just put my questions in the comments. I’m at revolutionswitch@mac.com. Thank you for these videos so much !
Would you opt to control the MESA JP-2C with MIDI instead of the foot pedal?
Absolutely yes.

Thanks man. Looking at the manual, I don't think that's possible. Although I think you're right, it would be great idea for a rack mounted rig.

Can I ask why would a player want to turn the FX loop off via a foot switch?
It's really the only way to control your FX yourself while your playing.
