I think most of these trends listed in the video are still too fancy to refer to them as NPCs. If I imagine real life NPC fashion I think of a basic fast fashion outfit, like jeans and a shirt with some sneakers, that you could meet anytime on the street and barely notice because its so unobtrusive.

I love your analogy of the fashion NPC and I think you captured the groups well. To me, fashion and style are different. Fashion is about engaging in the current conversation about trends. Style is about bringing out your interior to the external with appearal. Fashion NPCs are people who don't have style but are trying to be fashionable. So as a result, they all look like they came out from the same cookie cutter without a touch of personality.
ig on the other side of the spectrum is the fashion snobs who care too much about what others are wearing and refer to anyone who leans too heavily into fashion trends as NPCs. So as a result, they're unlikable because they bring others down for something completely harmless.

I know at least 20 bloke core NPCs in my city that dress just like that, listen to the exact same music, and say the exact same things, and are really bad annoying djs too. One of them quite literally made fun of me for wearing sambas in 2018 and is now repping them hard now that its safe and on trend. Why? Bc following these archetypal boxes is a sign of no real authentic personality. Im sure Adidas is loving it now that sambas are $50 more expensive per pair, football jerseys tripling in price etc

Some people made a good point that NPC is the best term for this concepts breakdown (tho I do still love how you did it, very entertaining). Because as you said we are the people that actually “know how to dress” so it’s more like we are actual “classes” or perhaps “essential NPCs” cus NPC dressing could be more like people who just buy and wear more basic things like Nike or old navy or something.
People choose to forget that being fashionable is synonymous with being a hypebeast. To be into fashion is to follow the trend of the times. Simply being into fashion means you're into trends aka hype. They just don't want to be called a hypebeast bc of the low brow and streetwear connotation that the word holds--which is kinda fucked tbh. Being into clothing can be a totally separate thing. You know who's into clothes minus the fashion? The fuckin dudes on old dusty forums arguing about which shade of shell cordovan goes best with their thirty shades of grey wool trousers.

In my opinion a fashion npc is someone who buys things he doesnt even like just to fit in, get something popular no matter if you like it or not. Just wearing every hype things without any sort of toughts even if it doesnt hit your style, and if you do so you probably dont have a certain style. Sometimes something you like gets popular or you honeslty like something trendy thats a way diffrent thing.
