Jeff is one of my favorite solo artists, his voice is so particular and his writing ability is incredible.
I was under the impression that Farm Jeff is a clone of her husband and she was left there to observe him. Then the experiment was over and it was time to take him back. But she loves both of him. Those were original Military Jeff's memories of the wedding. When she took off her wedding ring because she was having feelings for the clone, he made her a new ring. The "Ghost" is Farm Jeff's memories of the wedding and such cause they weren't his memories.

okay so what i understood is there's 2 jeffs. the first version who wants to marry her is the clone. basically he is a experiment already and she's pretending with him. so they take him away and do more experiments and shes also a part of helping those ppl. the other jeff is the one who's actually married to her. but while staying with the clone she somewhat feels for him so she helps him run away in the end.
but like jeff says you can interpret it however you want. just feel the song and thats enough no matter what story you think it is.
