I loved this video, because (without wanting to throw shade at other content creators) there's a practical focus on how to apply colour theory and everything else discussed. Lots of us love painting but don't have that artistic instinct or flair, but seeing it in action is easier than being merely told what colour theory is. I've been planning to start an Idoneth Deepkin army for a while and was almost paralysed with thinking about a scheme. Whilst I took the plunge to buy the paints I wanted a few hours ago before seeing this video, simplifying the process to a few common sense principles as you suggest reassures me as that's what I hope the scheme I've gone for will acheive. The black and white filter is a trick that seems so obvious but I'd never even considered, I will definitely give that a go with a test model.
Beside of color scheme you've used for painting this Elf Witch (that personally me like the most comparing with other painters), your presentation of subject is always short, understandable, and visually clear. Thanks for the great tutorial!
I have no experience or background in art and I'm very new to painting. This video was incredibly helpful! I can follow tutorials for specific paint schemes but what I haven't been able to do before was come up with my own color plans. Thanks for the video!
Nice one. You are one of the rare few youtube mini painters that can put a terrible clickbait title on a video and have the video still being a worthwhile and interesting watch.
This was a great video. I also like how you showed that there were times where you did a great job with the paintjob but had accidental coloring mistakes ("mistakes"), like with the Goblin and Squig. You're right the focus is drawn away from the face etc
Someone had their coffee this morning. ^_^ Seriously though, this short video taught me a ton. I have a color wheel, and . . . That's as far as I got. Most of my schemes have been me futzing about for a few weeks then copying it to the other models. But, now I feel like I have an idea how to take a color I want to use, and then quickly build around it. Going to give it a try on my new desert battlemechs. Thanks for the video.
Great content as always. You're channel is special in showing impressive paint jobs but explaining the techniques so well it doesn't feel intimidating to try them out.
Awesome info. Extra kudos for not transferring pots to drop bottles. This means you paint, don't waste time on things that do 0 painting for you. My man.
Good explanation. We all understand that there are “color combos” like purple and green or blue and orange that just work, but this helps give me a better grasp. Thank you.
I am a little happy right now because you and Vince Vinturella are probably my two favourite hobby youtubers. It'd be cool if you could be interviewed on his channel someday
Amazing content like always. Seriously love your guides. Mind blown with the skin tones being desaturated orange. I always stress about colour choices on the colour wheel pre painting this will help loads. I always learn so much from your content!
All of my color themes for all of my armies are red, black, gray, bone/ivory, and white. My Blood Angel successor chapter is primarily just black and gray with red trim. I am a pretty simple person when it comes to color. Literally, all of my IRL outfits are just black, red, and gray, and that is all I like, lol.
Really interesting. I'm going to try that trick of taking a photo and applying a monochrome filter 👍 Great shout out to Vincie V's witch elf - I really like this piece. It's great to see you do the same mini in a very different colour scheme. Very informative. Please keep this great content coming - I miss it when there's a big gap between videos 😔 Looking forward to the next one 👍😁
Same here on "Instant like". Another nice thing: We're all but saturations of orange :). If only we could give this planet a branding. Good point on contrasts. Yeah, we have to respect that, as well as using the color wheel options more =)!
I painted an orc boss that I just love, and I keep wondering what I accidentally tapped into that helps him pop. He does have great contrast, but I wonder if I happened to triadify the colour wheel or something as well... I'll have to check!
Great tips but what if my theme army has too much bling to paint? Mesoamerican Aztecs. Have a pic of the models but seems like it will be to many colors
Dude, I was just drinking coffee when the slap and the yamete kudasai came, and I spat out all of it over my desk. I didn't get coffee on the keyboard god knows why... That caught me off guard...
How would you do colour harmonies for metallic gold? I’m having troubles trying to figure out Gold for Tau Empire miniatures. I’ve searched online and FB groups scrolling through many examples, but I’ve yet to find one that I would want to use for myself. Any suggestions on how to figure out complimentary colours for metallic gold? (
But what if you know exactly what you want to paint but can't decide between 3 colours, how would you tie an army together even though they have completely different coloured armour
Nice video, I kinda went back at painting mini thanks to you ^^ I was wondering if there is a super mate medium that you would recommand? I feel that sometime citadel paint isn't very consistent so I tried using medium as a sort of a mate varnish. I got good result using lahmian medium but it's still a bit too shiny for me. I'm painting night lords so I really need a nice mate finish otherwise it kill the lightning effects.
Usualy, when trying complementary colors or tria, the result seems too contrasted (just like the suig exemple). What I use now indeed is neutral/desaturated colors as a second color and the harmonie just seems better. However I still use pure complementary colors not for wide areas but details that must attract the attention such as the eyes of a space marine. Just a question, can anyone tell me how the technique used in the video to put black in slots of the minis (such as the border of the shoulder of the space marine). The paint seems to spread naturally in the slot. Is it oil painting or a special medium ?
Haha! "Look at this #@£&-ing clown"! Hilarious! Awesome video too, thanks chum. Gives me confidence that my slap-chop zenithal step is bringing in the contrast that's needed, and my complete lack of colour-matching skills isn't as big a deal as I'd thought!
From day to day its 3 things are not changes: its how cool your jobs, how useful your.. lessons and how straight and colorful your beard. Slap like, and stay funky, Bro
Well I learned something about my painting style and what to call it. My main way of painting is to have a primary colour, a secondary colour about a quarter to a third of the wheel away, and then use the various tones inbetween from those extremes. For example having blue armour, red hair and various details painted various shades of purples inbetween.
The fact that you prime with Black, Grey nor White is because they're not colors they're values in dark and light BUT like our pathetic and poor eyes can't see all the colors (like bees and birds) they need a bit of color in this case, fun fact the shadows are never black nor grey they're purple-ish nor red-ish but our eyes can't see that and just interpreted as faded black nor grey.
Subscribe or Will Smith will slap you!

Absolutely STUNNING paintjob, Zumi. Thank you so much for spending the time to paint in such a gorgeous way on The Witch.
You're one of the few content creators that I just automatically hit Like before even starting the video. Awesome stuff as usual!
100% I hate to admit it, but it's true. Never disappointed, because you know the content always contains something you can learn from. 👊

That First model you showed She made my eye's very happy that smooth color blend.
Those two seconds from 00:37 to 00:39 must be the best comedy segment in any youtube video 2022. Well done my friend!

I can't decide if you're a better painter or a stand up comedian. Best mini youtuber with Miniac.
Very informative. I always struggle with what colors to use after I pick my primary, this will help a lot.
Yellow and blue is the best color harmony and it makes everybody’s eyes happy

Great to hear from you again. Thank you.
"What makes a great color scheme?"
You do, you absolute mini painting chad.
Very complex topic and a great explanation from you. Thanks man!
I really appreciate your videos because you explain the theory behind the painting. Thank you!

Great tips my man! Nice work
I was just wondering this morning when another video was coming. You're psychic, sir.
What isn't a good colour scheme? The red and purple I painted on my screamer killer Carnifex last weekend. Not sure if I can salvage it...
Amazing job as usual. Great advices peppered with FUNNIES
Same here on "Instant like". Another nice thing: We're all but saturations of orange :). If only we could give this planet a branding.

Congratz on 100k subs! Well deserved!
Awesome witch's painting

Always interesting to hear how to improve my work.

You´ve blown up my mind XD really good explanation and some facts to take into consideration.
That model is gorgeous, great video.
Saw no one comment about the hair. Looking fly ;)
I live for these videos. Thank you.
What an incredible topic and execution! Outstanding as always!!!
You got me after this one I subscribed good work! Love this
Another classic, aniki 🙏🏻

Thanks for the tip of Adobe colors!
Outstanding content. I love your presentation and attitude.
Awesome video as always. Would you mind telling saying where you got your color wheel software?
Google Adobe Color :)

Great vid. very nice clear explaination of a complex and confusing subject. Also, love your version of miniac’s mini! Think I prefer it to Vince’s ;-)
Great video man! Well done!
Yessss 🙌🙌🙌
Pissed my pants. Instantly. Need a new one. With this video I had the best time of my life! At least for today.

You can always use AK ultra matt varnish once you finish painting it, it will absolutely flatten any shine/glossiness
How do I apply this advice to Black Templar specifically?
With this amazing content you will soon reach the 100k👍
Excellent video

Thank you for sharing your experience! The paint that spreads so well is oil wash - check my "ultimate guide to speedpainting Space marines"
So how would this work for Necrons?

Damn you for showing off your Limbo Division 209 Holly. ;)
What do you use for a brush holder?
What color wheel program are you using?
What is that for a colorwheel program you are using
From day to day its 3 things are not changes: its how cool your jobs, how useful your.. lessons and how straight and colorful your beard.
Slap like, and stay funky, Bro
Can anyone tell me how to access that interactive color wheel shown in the video
google adobe.color 👌
better use a color wheel based on additive complementary and evenly distributed
Whats the name of the program you use for traveling the color wheel? :)
adobe color, it's an online page
@@Zumikito Thank you kindly :)
Did you watch swampletics by any chance, the “that changes everything” comment made me think of it
nope, but hey, it's pretty common phrase!

@@Zumikito Good to know that, thanks! 😁
„Racism destroyed“ - I lol‘d. I wish it was that easy. :)
I'm still trying to figure out where your accent is from
this adobe cc color wheel is quite strange / uneven , gives rather inaccurate contrasting colors
... whatever the GW box art shows...?
How the hell do you get this good, its crazy. ugh i suck lol
I'm glad we destroyed racism with paint. Another good deed done
Ahhh dude the yamete kudasai... xD
My colorblind ass watching this even though I’ll never be able to see the difference
Skin is orange the same way tree trunks are brown.
oh hey, I AM a fool!
But Zumikito……………..!
omg all skintones are oranges *world explodes*
