The rauch/Lewis battle continues! Ha! For me, the differences are pretty in line with how the horns are made...a rauch is certainly a heavier geyer style horn, no? In regards to make and feel? I’ve always felt that a rauch felt like a “big” version of a geyer. I feel the sound is bigger and darker on the rauch when you play.
The Lewis is obviously light and in the style of the original geyer. Warm and small bore etc. and in turn...I find the sound is warmer, more spinning and focused on the Lewis. Both are wonderful sound concepts...just depends on the situation and who you’re matching and or what composer maybe you’re playing? Long winded comment! Sorry! Gorgeous playing as always! Love hearing you play these wonderful etudes that I love ❤️

Thanks, Max! These are great comments and observations, much appreciated! I think you’re correct...depends on the composer. I just find the Lewis easier in flexibility of style and the Rauch has amazing intonation and easy sound production. Soon - I will have this figured out! Cross your fingers...Cheers!

Sounds great on both horns. Both have great qualities. The Rauch sounds easier, the sound is more full and you have a larger dynamic spectrum. The Rauch has more core, but the Lewis gets more "room" sound. I really enjoy your playing, even on the 871 in other videos! Best wishes,

Thank you, Joshua. I agree, the Rauch is easier. What do you mean by “room” sound? Thank you for watching my other videos...

@@Hoopstx2 As far as "room" sound, maybe resonance or low overtones would be a better word? The Rauch, to me, has a ton of core. Maybe that "core" supersedes the overtones I hear on the Lewis? Hard to tell without being in the room. I listened again this morning just to make sure I wasn't crazy, still sounds great!
