These facts are enough to certify that Kapil is undoubtedly the greatest all-rounder and one of the greatest cricketer India has had: -
1. Broke Richard Hadlee's world record of 431 test wickets and ultimately took his test wicket tally to 434, highest in the world at that time.
2. More than 5000 test runs (which was a big deal at that time for specialist batsmen also).
3. Fantastic fielder (Richard's catch in WC '83 final, and many others)
4. First true fast bowler in the Indian cricket team. Very elegant bowling action.
5. Attacking batsman with very impressive record in both tests and ODIs (His 175* in WC '83 always presented as an inspiration and example).
6. Never bowled a 'no ball'. Gavaskar had praised Kapil even when he used to play for that. Now Bishan Singh Bedi also is saying that Kapil never bowled a no-ball even during nets. I only remember than once during 1991 Sharjah series, Kapil bowled Imran, but umpire gave it no-ball. Kapil was upset, but didn't say anything. The next ball Imran played to on-side. Even that ball was called a 'no-ball' by the umpire. Kapil became angry and asked the empire. I think he was sure that his both balls were legit, and that umpires were favoring Pakistan (which used to be the case). Only time I saw Kapil losing his temper on field (the othe time when Kapil held a press conference in 2000, to defend himself when Manoj Prabhakar, the 'match fixer' himself, accused Kapil of fixing a match against Pakistan! Such a stupid slimeball Prabhakar is. He ultimately was caught in his own web of lies)
7. Never was run-out (as Bedi is saying).
8. Patriot to the core. Never missed a match even when he was ill or unfit. This match that Naseer is talking about is the same one that Gavaskar walked out of ground. Kapil bowled a lethal spell of 28/5 and Aussies were bowled out for 83, thus losing the game by 59 runs. When I was a child, I remember Kapil kept limping against Sri Lanka in Cuttack test match (1987), but took his 300th wicket.
Hats off to Kapil Dev, a great son of our motherland, and cricketer par excellence. May he keep inspiring generations of sportsmen.
Kapil is a complete cricketer. He excelled in every departments of cricket in batting, bowling and fielding. He is arguably the greatest cricketer india has ever produced. Yes even better than Gavaskar, Tendulkar, Mankad, kohili, kumble etc

As Gavaskar has said many a times that if at all India has got a battery of fast bowlers today it is because of strong foundation laid by great Kapil Dev. Hat's off to this legend.

Not many people know that Kapil was the
1st man to take not only 200 but also 250 wickets in ODIs. At the time of his retirement, he was the leading wicket taker in both ODIs and Tests.
Kapil is the only captain to take 9 wickets in an innings.
Only man to claim 400 wickets and score 5000 runs, also only man to claim 400 wickets and 4000 runs in Tests.
World record 184 innings without getting run out.
He is the 1st man to hit 4 consecutive 6s in tests. (Now equalled by Afridi and De Villiers but not broken).
He is still in the list of top 10 wicket takers in tests.
Strike rate of 94 in tests, higher than Richards and Sehwag, 95 in ODI, higher than Richards.
Still youngest to 100 wickets and 1000 runs, 200 wickets and 2000 runs, 300 wickets and 3000 runs.
He is still the youngest man to take 300 Test wickets.
(Was also youngest to take 100, 200 and 400 but these 3 records stand broken now).
Scored 500 runs and took 50 wickets in the same year twice (Pollock and Botham have also achieved this feat)

Fastest 50 by an Indian in tests in 30 balls.
Fastest century by an Indian in Tests in 74 balls. (Later equalled by Azhar but not broken).
2nd fastest to reach 100 wickets in 25 tests (Bumrah is now fastest in 24 tests)
Second fastest 50 by an Indian in ODI in 22 balls (Fastest by Agarkar in 21 balls)
He is the 1st Indian to complete his maiden test century with a six. (Harbhajan is the only other Indian to do so)

Not only catching, his ground fielding was extraordinary. His FLAT throws from boundary to wicket were extraordinary ( As described by another great fielder Ekanatha Solkar).

Kapil is undoubtedly one of the finest cricketer the world has ever seen. Kapil was the highest wicket taker when he has retired and don't forget he has bowled most of the time in india's lifeless wicket. If he was born in Australia or England then his records would have been far better.

*As a batsman* : Scored 303 runs at the average of 60 & remains on 5th position as top highest run scorer (Total Runs). Scored not out 175 runs in just 138 balls (Highest Score in match by Player in tournament as well in ODI) in must win match for India against Zimbabwe at the time when all top order batsman failed to score runs.
*As a Bowler* : Picked 12 Wickets in 8 matches at the average of 20.41 with best 5/43. In most wickets in tournament table he remained on No. 8
*As a Fielder* : Kapil Paji have taken total 7 catches from 8 matches but best one is of Viv Richards in Final , that was the turning point of the Match.

What a great cricketer he was. I am so fortunate to have studied in the same College in Chandigarh though he was 4 years younger.His record of 5000 runs and 400 plus wickets in tests will Never be broken. We had a common English teacher....LOL.......I miss him.
