- From her Connecticut home, an emotional Kathie Lee Gifford joins TODAY with fond remembrances of the late Regis Philbin, her friend as well as her longtime on-air partner. “In all the years together we never had one cross word,” she says. “We had the same sense of humor, and we just took off like a rocket … we just wanted to sit there and have fun together.”

I was first “introduced” to Regis, back in the late 70’s. He was a co-host (with Cyndy Garvey) on a local morning talk show called “AM Los Angeles”. I was a teenager, but I remember how funny he was.
Years later I “found” him again on “Live..”. I became a bigger fan. During the first 15 minutes - when he & Kathie Lee talked about their lives, he sometimes made me laugh until tears rolled down my face.
My prayers go out to his wife, daughters and everyone who was blessed to have him in their lives.
Thank you Regis, for the many years of laughter.

She often spoke very sweet words to him and Joy in interviews, so I'm sure she did whenever she got together with them as well. She was very transparent and spoke from the heart, so I'm sure she has no regrets.

That morning show will always be "Regis and Kathy Lee" to me. When she left and they lost that great, fun chemistry, I quit watching.

I too, lost my sidekick from work. Its funny, these retrospects made it occur to me that we were alot like Regis and Kathy Lee but with rougher edges.....
She is right....the "suits" don't always know what's best as far as what the audience wants. She and Reg had a chemistry together... played off each other perfectly. Sounds like she has a lot of "houses" around the country. She is blessed with a lot of opulence and deserves it. RIP Regis... it was quite a ride.

I just wanna grow up to be like Kathie Lee…She is the true representation of Love🙏🏻♥️. I’ll never forget meeting her back in the early 90’s. During the High Point Furniture Market. She gave a private show in the High Point Theatre and my Company sponsored her when she was spokesperson for HAVEN MAGAZINE. SHE was 4 months pregnant with Cody. I spent some time talking with her after the show. I met Joy Philbin in High Point NC at a different time but for the same cause HAVEN as well. What a beautiful person as well. I also met Regis, when he and Susan “Le Lucci” (as Regis called her) came to Raleigh NC when they were doing their concerts together. I was fortunate enough to spend time with each one! They both were Absolutely the nicest people you could ever meet. Susan signed the Erika Kane Barbie Doll that I had bought for my mother! The look on my mothers face as Susan signed that doll for her was....... priceless! Regis even complemented me on my black dress! He said, and you even dressed up for this! 😂... of course I did!

True but as an atheist myself I never had a problem with it. With Kathie Lee it was different...she was not holier-than-thou, she was not righteous. She said and did things that would be considered Unchristian if it made people laugh, and if it entertained people without putting her faith and values to shame (so to speak and for a lack of a better word), meaning she was down to earth. And I ALWAYS watched Live with Regis and Kathie Lee (tape it on my vcr when I had to go to school) and I like to believe that down-to-earth personality is what made the chemistry work on that show. And Regis, I also Iike to believe, was just being Regis...that's just the way he was which is why he was loved

Yes, Kathy understands there is a God and Jesus Christ is the Son of God who said that no person comes to God the Father except through Him. She knows that she will see Regis again and that friendship they had here will continue on forever!!

She seems wonderfully genuine in her faith, but more importantly, she doesn't flaunt it or seem like the type who'd think herself better than others for it. As she mentioned, they did a segment on crystals and she participated and had fun with it even though she didn't personally believe in it. She seems like a lovely person to have an inter-faith conversation with, and like someone who would really listen.
And as for Regis, he just seemed like a cool guy, a genuine New Yorker, that is, a down-to-earth class act. I used to watch "Regis and Kathie Lee" all the time as kid, or would tape it if I had to miss it. It was such a great show. Rest in peace, Regis.
A once in a lifetime special friendship ....Treasure those you love while they are still here...God blesses us with the gifts of placing certain people in our lives for many reasons
Good point. If we "let go and let God" there is more truth to that idiom than we realize....it is scriptural if you read the Old Testament.....God wants to be active in our lives and WILL if we make room for Him and Pay Attention. Don't forget that "staying in his good graces" is key.

One of my all-time favorite Regis & Kathie Lee moments was when she participated on the very first Celebrity edition of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire ?" when she aced the "Fast Finger" round & his reaction (and then their producer, Gelman, blew it so her, she won $32,000 for her charity)
I will ALWAYS believe that Kathie Lee was a FAR better co-hostess than Kelly Ripa 🌹

Sorry for your loss Ms Gifford! A friend of mine was a lighting tech on the Regis and Cathy Lee show. I met him once after one of the shows and walked out with him. He was all smiles for a stranger.

I have loved and watched Regis and Kathy Lee since probably 1986 was. Very sad when Kathie Lee left but continue to watch him and Kelly. Regis and Kathie Lee always had this wonderful relationship that made you laugh it was silly it was giddy and it just started your day off on such a wonderful note God bless the two of them! Loved when his wife Joy was on with him laughed like crazy as well. I met him a few times I have pictures of Kathie Lee Gelman and Regis they always made me feel so welcomed at the studio as a fan who just enjoyed watching this show! We will miss you dearly Regis God bless I know you will looking down and smiling and not only all your fans such as me but everyone that you have touched rest in peace you are a beautiful soul!🙏❤

You can tell Kathie Lee is heartbroken over the loss of her dear friend and colleague by the way she spoke about her last encounter with Regis. I did not grow up watching her when she was on Live but when she was co hosting with Hoda she would talk about him enough i was able to understand what kind of bond those two had. Was so kind of her to reach out to his widow and children just to spend some time with them

Poor Kathie...she definitely was on the verge of breaking down in tears. She lost her best friend, and she’ll never get over that fully, especially after frank passed close to the same day 5 years earlier, especially after you realized the today show anchors were totally on the verge of tears as well. The 15 years passed quote...that, gave me chills.
