They were sugar free red bulls btw! If you wanna know the aftermath of Ed's recording, James talks about him drunk calling him on Off Menu with Cerys Matthews, and Ed talks about it with Nish here: th-cam.com/video/HB-IYS9a0iw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=cVNiaqUsUm0H2k1Z Gonna try and see how many of these I can upload! (no luck on the Alex Horne and other Acaster one but I'll try some more soon)
@@streetjustice4287 He is a type 1 diabetic. Binge drinking is dangerous for him, but he survives it regularly! Hopefully with insulin at hand and a medical information card in his wallet!
Some people are surprised by Ed’s attempt, but like every properly raised british kid in the 90s/early 00s, as soon as he hit 13 he was binge drinking in a church hall - even dedicated a whole chapter to it in his book and then a separate one for his love of Guinness (but don't worry he's absolutely fine 😂)
And the chapter dedicated to Guinness was way longer than the one dedicated to romance. And the one dedicated to romance featured Nish just as much as Charlie haha
I also love how Ed’s London accent comes back a bit when he's super drunk at the end. His voice has changed quite noticeably since he started comedy, probably due to the amount of podcasts he's done 😂
@lukacastyellan3882 yeah he's definitely developed a "broadcast voice", and also got posher, which happens to be a big part of his new show, just fully embracing it lol. I still hear it slip back with the odd word now and then but what I find more strange listening to the old stuff now is how much higher his voice was 😂
I'm already in love with James Acaster and his bit was one of the most endearing things I've seen, I wanna listen to his drunken rambles with a goofy smile on my face
As someone with alcohol intolerance I can’t even understand how Ed is still alive. He STARTED with 18 doubles, how is that possible?! I don’t think I could even consume that much liquid 😂
I need Nish to know that there is still a media company in Canada that is called Bell, as in the bellend, and it owns like half of everything even remotely tech based but especially our phones
I have to say that it's quite a bold strategy to have a diabetic person drink so much that they pass out. I am glad that Ed Gamble got home alright, but I know diabetics that have died because of that exact scenario. You'd have to have a lot of men hanging around watching you. Just like your mum.
I think it's standard for all recorded productions to have first aiders on stand by because no matter where it is, it's a workplace I would also hope that they sought some kind of medical clearance first :D But of course, knowing that in the UK drinking is basically a sport, that isn't guaranteed
I love how you made a long slightly nerdy comment that sounded a bit boring only to suddenly bring it home with an unexpected and truly excellent ‘your mum’ gag. Excellent work.
3 of my favorite British Comedians and I am giggling about the name of the brand of Nish's refrigerator; SMEG. It brings back fond memories of "Red Dwarf"!
For any US brethren here, doubles in the UK are 50ml, so just over a single measure you would have poured (44ml I think?) We drink like crazy people, but our pubs are tight on measures...
@@Isthisastep Yeah fair point :D Apparently during Covid self reporting of alcohol intake was wildly skewed by "self pouring" People saying "What do you mean a bottle of vodka has 28 shots? I only get 8 at the most!!"
@dannybrennan31 yeah there was another Acaster one which I tried to upload with this but it got blocked, still no actors tho, I think in the first series that was more common
@sternschnuppe9101 it's fine, some drinks are easier to manage than others, like what Ed's drinking is a good choice, but nah we can and do get just as wasted haha
I loved Drunk History when it was on, but when I checked IMDB recently it seems a bit reviled Is it because as an American import its just too different to the original?
They were sugar free red bulls btw!

It's even funnier watching Nish’s one now that we know he had an absolutey hammered Ed knocking on the set door and creeping in trying to watch
I absolutely love Anthony Head having to say "Are you fucking shitting in my mouth" and then doing the Victorian high five. Iconic, thank you Nish
OMG I didn’t realise it was Anthony Head, that’s amazing
I liked Tim Key's reactions to his analogies 😊
Acaster's story so insane, it had to be animated because "butt puke" is notoriously difficult to film in live action, imo.
the borderline alc poisoning that Ed gets is insane
He's lucky Nish told the crew NOT to call his mum 😂
Concerning really, yikes.
"This is like a Serbian film" is my new favorite phrase
James fuckin turned into a seagull at 11:53 I'm dying
Considering how short it was, I don’t think he lasted long…😂
Ok yes, Ed drank a lot of alcohol, but he drunk 7 redbulls?! How did he not have a cardiac arrest!!?
Redbull hasn't got much caffeine in it
He didn't drink 7 he had a couple used as a mixer.
he's not a weakling
And he's a diabetic!!!
@@streetjustice4287 He is a type 1 diabetic. Binge drinking is dangerous for him, but he survives it regularly! Hopefully with insulin at hand and a medical information card in his wallet!
how was Ed not literally dead at the end of drinking 2 and a half weeks worth of recommended alcohol consumption in one night?
I do not know. I think it's about the equivalent of a bucket of wine.
I'm gonna say a mix of practice, genetics, age, and most of all stubbornness
He's British
Yes, it's a lot of alcohol. But plenty of people do that on a weekly or even nightly basis.
Just ask your mum.
the real question is what was his blood sugar like at that point! lotta carbs in booze.

Well, he isn't fine, but at least he is still kicking!
And the chapter dedicated to Guinness was way longer than the one dedicated to romance. And the one dedicated to romance featured Nish just as much as Charlie haha
I'm just assuming he fingered someone while they both drank Pineapple Bacardi Breezers... Or maybe VK for the late comers (and lighter of pocket)
I also love how Ed’s London accent comes back a bit when he's super drunk at the end. His voice has changed quite noticeably since he started comedy, probably due to the amount of podcasts he's done 😂
yeah i’m only a casual listener of off-menu and i didn’t know ed was a londoner cuz his accent normally sounds just vaguely posh

Ed's descent into inebriation is great
@Arcturuseyes Ooow look @u with your fancy werds❤🎉😂
"captured or kilmed"
That’s three men I would go drink with and ABSOLUTELY fall in love with each.

"Ducktails rich!"
Ed Gamble does a really good South African accent.
just came to the comments to say this... was impressed
5:17 Mr. Burns on the Simpsons answers the phone with “ahoy hoy”
Ed turns on a sixpence from composed to completely Tom Dick and Harried

I see James Acaster, I click ❤
I absolutely adore Nish. So freaking funny!,,
I really prefer the original Drunk History concept where actual historians got drunk and tried to explain things without jokes.
I love that one of Ed’s Nazis sounds like Gru from Despicable Me.
3 of my favorite British Comedians and I am giggling about the name of the brand of Nish's refrigerator; SMEG. It brings back fond memories of "Red Dwarf"!
That's awfully nice treatment of Edison sir.
oh he wasn't done, well then.
oh he only did Bell, nvm, that's an awfully nice treatment of Edison sir.
Someone shot a shot…of bullets.
Eddison didn't invent the lightbulb. Humphry Davy did.
Rich Hall as the Canadian when he has a ranch in Montana is great lol
Nish can really handle his booze
Yup, he seemed pretty normal😮
I’m going to start saying “KitKats for lunchtime!”
Only in the UK would a Type 1 diabetic drink that much in one sitting😅
I fantasise that Nish, James & Ed watched this for the first time together. They would have pissed themselves laughing
I guess the mnemonic to remember the name of the inventor* is Antonio [Scara]Meucci
*as recognized by the US House of Representatives
i refuse to believe James drank anything but punch
@16:43
Was that a reference to A Tribe Called Quest?
Can I kick it?
Yes you can
Nah the warriors movie...
Wow, Gamble can drink
ed got slammed and i cant help but love him more for it
It's a shame that the actual Taskmaster Task designer (and original contestant), Tim Key, was not named in the title of this clip.

If they do make a film about it, will it be as good as this was? 🎉
@12.08mins. James Acaster "The Scottish got back" - wasn't that a hit for Sir MacSalot?
That was like a Serbian film!
what a shame james' part is so short and not actually acted out
@dannybrennan31 yeah there was another Acaster one which I tried to upload with this but it got blocked, still no actors tho, I think in the first series that was more common
He’s drinking Campo Viejo! Very nice choice.👍
I wish they would have done James Acaster’s story live-action instead of animated.
18:09 as an American…well who hasn’t been there before
Who's the guy who plays the young, self-pleasuring Bell? And Ed Gamble is adorable.
Incredible
The plague got to Wales in 1349 in Carmarthen from English trade.
Nasty stuff, horrible time in history
aww poor Nish!! lol
Issstwenttythorchamorch is the funniest thing that’s ever happened 😂😂😂
He said it so quickly as well - complete confidence that those words were going to come out normal and fine.
@ 🤣🤣🤣 right? I suppose we’re all that confident after 59 double vodkas though hahah
POW camp is NOT a concentration camp
Perhaps off topic, but who is the extremely beautiful young man with no clothes early in the story?
He doesn't look like he's even out of his teens, so maybe chill a bit with those kinds of questions?
Is it ok for diabetics to drink? Isn't that dangerous?

That is the worst impression of a South African accent I've ever heard. We don't all sound like Afrikaans people speaking English.
Just not funny. And I love british humor.
ok
Thanks for the helpful comment. Most people would just click off but, hero that you are, you made sure people knew that you’ve declared it not funny.
