  • Many Lightroom users have found their Map Module to stop working. In this video, I explain the issue, what's causing it, and how it affects the various versions of Lightroom which governs whether or not Maps will work or not.

Thank you for the explanation Tony. I was using the Map Module (following along with your recent Mastering Lightroom Classic CC Map Module tutorial) without the latest update installed and it was working fine. I have since updated to the latest version.

My Lightroom Classic version 7.4 map worked perfectly today. Thanks for the information anyway, I am going to update just in case there are other bugs.

hi, i don't want to be rude and just looking for help. what is the sense of your video, to tell me what i see as a LR6 user?

Yet one more attempt by Adobe to force us all onto contract. I've loved Lightroom, but I hate Adobe's blackmail. Adobe goes beyond avarice. I gather someone somewhere wants to start a class action against them. Count me in.

I read on a forum that the 'real' reason the map module is not working anymore on Lightroom 6 or previous versions is not because the Google APIs changed. What changed i, that Google now charges use of the Google Maps APIs by transaction (so each time you open Maps Adobe has to pay a fraction of a penny to Google). Adobe (understandably) doesn't want to pay Google for users that don't give them money monthly via Lightroom CC, so they let their original API key expire.

I'm running Lightroom 6.10.1 and the Map module works fine for me (so far).

This is down to Google that is changing the price structure for its maps. The price is going from 50cents to $7 along with a reduction in the number of free accesses from 750000 down to 28000.
A lot of web services are finding this's too much to pay and are moving away from Google maps.

Short sighted view from Adobe I'm a lightroom 6 user and I'm not going to buy Adobe lightroom just for maps but when it is time for me to upgrade my site I won't go to Adobe anyone of that for they treat users got the sake of greed. The fix would take minutes to fix by Adobe and push out.

Confusing situation. I have 5.7 and the map module stopped working. I searched Adobe and various forums, and LR6 appeared to be supported, so I now have LR6.17 (?) And maps are working again. Not a very ethical approach from Adobe. They should provide a patch. How hard can it be? I use Google Picasa, and even though it is end of life there was a simple work around.

Just read Adobe may be doing away with Maps - nevertheless, you mentioned an app for IPhone - I did not catch the name of the app and when doing a search I did not find the app you were using - could you send me the name please?

No matter how diplomatic the explanation ...... this is a rip off and exploitation of a client base using the stand alone version. Well, the client base will slowly but surely erode.

A fix for version 6.14 can be found here - github.com/astuder/lightroom-map-fix. I cannot vouch for its effectiveness as I haven't tried it yet.

Initially I hated the idea of renting software like Adobe's subscription model. After thinking about it this model makes expensive software more accessible and affordable. I still don't like that I'm only renting Lightroom and Photoshop should I not be able to afford it at some time in the future. But it's not a bad tradeoff since without the new subscription model I likely wouldn't have plunked down the big bucks, to buy both.

I started to hate Adobe because of their move. Not being able to open my photo catalog whenever i want…

I find it bothersome that so many software users are so bitter over issues such as this. Google changed their API call, not Adobe, so why spew all the Adobe hate. LR cc has been out for over two years now, with their new subscription model no less, so why would anyone expect a company to go back and update software that is outdated and not commercially available. Most other software companies don’t go back and update software that is two years past their current shipping version . I don’t know why people are not loving the new 9.99/ month model vs the annual $300+/ year upgrade model. I was just looking at my purchase history for photoshop and LR, each year I averaged about $250/VERSION UPGRADE for PS, AND $80/version upgrade for LR. The way I look at it, Adobe is saving me more than half my previous expenses every year. Other software products cost me the same or more each year. To Adobe’s credit, they rectified the issue immediately with the 7.5 release. If it wasn’t for this post and a few other online posts I saw, I wouldn’t have even known.

If you always need to have the latest and greatest version, fine. But I'm perfectly happy with Lightroom 6.14 and have no desire to upgrade. I also use Photoshop CS5.1 and that too is more than adequate for my needs. I'm unwilling to spend another $120 per year, every year, for the rest of my life or until Adobe does something else to extract more money out of their users. Frankly I no longer trust them.
