Haroldo Canuto You're very welcome, thank you for the appreciation of my work. Well Wardruna is a big inspiration to me, although I try to be slightly different, still it will be similar because we use the same type of instruments and portray the same culture. I don't know if I agree if I'm more authentic, and certainly not because of just the use of a single instrument as I think they combined several instruments back then also. The usage of the same type of instruments, such as the tagelharpa make us authentic in the same mold, because of the way the instruments are in itself, especially the tagelharpa is a very limited instrument and therefore in that way authentic. But I don't think it's Kvitrafns goal to be authentic.

Haroldo Canuto Yes I understood that but again I think they combined several instruments in the halls back then or out in the marketplaces.

You talk some about authenticity in these comments, but as far as I know viking lyres (the tagelharpa is apparently a type of lyre and not a harp) were most likely not played with a bow, but with the fingers like many other types of lyres in Europe at the time. Bowing became a thing during Medieval times. Most facts point towards that the tagelharpa appeared during the Middle Ages, so it's most likely not a very vikingy sound at all.
Also, I don't think playing alone adds anything to any imagined authenticity. Purely instrumental solo playing was probably rare until modern times - any lone musician would likely be singing or leading a dance, whether for fun or for rituals.
So be careful around the word "authentic" - if you really want to use it make sure it revolves around historical facts, and not imaginations of the past.
And all this aside - nice playing, definitely keep it up!

+majnjord Regarding the use of bow on lyre, the oldest sources of bow for lyre found in Scandinavia is from the early middleages, some belive it may have been used by the end of the viking age but there are no findings to back it up as far as i have seen. Though i agree a finger-played lyre is the safe bet because thats what has been confirmed for sure, if one is strictly trying to illustrate the viking age. If including the early middleages however, a tagellharpe with bow is completly acceptable. He has several other songs with fingerplayed kravik-lyre, and some with several instruments.
As for the second half of ur comment you come of as slightly rude or arrogant, one man can only do so much and solo performances must have existed too even if a set of players with diffrent instruments was preferred. And if you had bothered reading his comment first you would see he already said: "I don't know if I agree if I'm more authentic, and certainly not because of just the use of a single instrument as I think they combined several instruments back then also."

+majnjord Yes, authentic in the way that the way of playing the instrument is very limited in itself. Making the notes I play very unoriginal, maybe they played even the same song that I made with this? Who knows.
Tagelharpa is in fact both, a lyre is a small harp. Tagel means "horsetailhair". Then again the term "lyre" was not in use in scandinavia during the viking age. They had the word "hörpu" or "harpa" which means harp. Lyre is a more modern term in these parts.
A plucked lyre was played with it's fingers yes or in fact a plectrum. But that is a different type of lyre, this is a bowed one. Even though most theories pinpoint the fact that it spread right after the viking age in Europe during the 1100's, it might have been known to the vikings from the east where bowed instruments where in use, during their travels along the eastern traderoutes. There's a finding of a rebec from Hedeby which was probably bowed, a bow was however not found along with it. Note this; if you play it with a bow you get a lot of sound out of it, if you play it without it, very little.
In terms of playing alone; why is it so people think playing solo is a modern thing? They probably did that back then, I think they had songs and playing for different occations and for their own amusement. Nothing of the music from back then has survived, and historical records were written down ages afterwards, therefore it is open for interpretation. That's what I do. Then again, this is not a finished song it's a demo in which I intended it to include both vocals, drums etc.
If you want to read more about ancient instruments and theory I highly recommend Gjermund Kolltveit musical archaeologist from Norway.

+Vikingskog I completely agree with the tagelharpa being appropiate for illustrating early medieval music. About the comments about authenticity, I was thinking of his older comment. Sorry if I came off as arrogant, I can see how it looked that way, but I assure you it wasn't my intention.

Haroldo Canuto these are original compositions of mine, although on an ancient instrument type, so it's never truly original but therefore also very authentic. These are my interpretations of how the vikings might have played their music, inspired from the roots of our folkmusic in scandinavia.
