No, but the thicker the strings, the more hair you need on the bow! Bow length depends on how narrow your strings are!

Thank you) The thickness of the string was selected experimentally. The final amount of hair in the string was not fixed.

There’s a half dozen names for the same instrument here. Talharpa, bowed harp, bowed lyre, etc. all the same thing.
