American here; I truly appreciate the comparably "simpler" overland rigs our mates in Australia design, produce, and choose to show off. Many cab-over truck rigs here seem to be built out as an apartment on wheels, which I feel takes away from getting into the outdoors, and I suspect adds to the cost considerably when compared to even a well designed and well-stocked canopy layout such as this. While I have a couple more priorities to tackle before building out something like this, hopefully around 2025 if nothing unforeseen comes up, this walkthrough was incredibly informative and has given me a pretty good roadmap of how I'd like to build out a rig in a few years' time. I've subscribed, and look forward to seeing more content!
Thanks for joining our community hope we can keep you well informed and never know might be over there one day with the truck. It fits in a shipping container👍👍 cheers Katty
Thank you very much. Great walk through - if you scripted that you did well to remember your lines, not a fumble or lost word. Awesome job. Great setup - I want the same vehicle although I plan to make the truck the living space / bed-room so totally different layout - but great food for thought, thanks so much for taking the time to give such a detailed look at your creation.
Gday,
We plan on doing a 2 year review on our truck in the near future, as i think we can now say we have properly tested it. I will run through the issues and good stuff with it. Cheers, karl
Great video mate. Thanks for such a detailed walk-through. That’s a cracking setup too. I love how you’ve really planned it for what you want.
Thanks Jeremy,
I had a idea what we needed, and wanted. 2 years on and it is still great. We are about to do a new review on the truck, discussing what has happened, the good and bad, and what has worn.
Cheers, karl
Thanks for taking the time to give us a walk round mate, very interesting.
thanks for watching Simon. Cheers Katty
Really nice, I’m daydreaming of owning one like this to go on adventures. 👏🏾 👏🏾
Hi Moises, if you ever get the chance get out and see this beautiful country. Doesn't matter about the vehicle so long as it is reliable.
Stay safe Cheers Katty
It's a beast. Built for your needs and requirements. Can tell you've spent time in the bush and know what you want. Would be interesting to see the truck along side of a 200 series for comparison.
Hi Joel, thanks, when the truck is fully loaded, it performs about the same as a 4.2L GU. Not as good as a 200 series.
Cheers Karl
This is seriously cool. If I was full time on the road like you guys I'd love to own one. Sadly I think my patrol will have to do the job as a daily/weekend warrior. If these were shorter maybe I wouldn't have to daydream. Keep up the good content guys
Hey Josh thanks for watching! The price is comparable to a new full tricked up Landcruiser unbelievably. Buy a Tatts ticket, maybe one day. Cheers Katty
What a beast of a truck, well done people
thanks mate 👍
Good job again👍, can't wait to get over there 🚚
👍
Sick rig mate that’s wild
Thanks Nick
Awesome walk through, mate. Happy travels
thanks and good luck with your plans Cheers Karl and Katty
Wow Karl what a great set up. Well done to you both excellent van, Enjoy.
thanks Gary we are certainly enjoying our travels. Cheers Katty
Thank you for a great video..great information
Our pleasure! glad you enjoyed it 👍
thank you for share detail video on Isuzu 300 NPS75 4x4 crew cab as yes are good truck
👍
That's a great setup!
Thanks mate 👍
Well thought out design, is the tent motor as loud as it sounds on video, but very nice rig, 👍🏻
thanks rick, the tent is that loud but only lasts 30 seconds or so Cheers Katty
Hi , l love the video very informative, just was wanting to ask your secondary fuel tank , has it got a switch in the cabin to switch to the secondary tank when you need too or is it gravity feed??
I recently purchased a Isuzu no’s with the extra tank but it is a gravity feed one. I don’t know how this works.
I drove it down from the Gold Coast ( to Melbourne) called Isuzu they didn’t really help out.
Do you know how this system works??
Does the fuel from the secondary tank flow into the original tank ??
At what stage does the fuel run from the secondary tank to the main tank ??
Thought I’ll ask someone who knows these trucks. Thanks
Hi Erol,
The second tank is a complete copy of the first tank, with a fuel pump and all. It has its own fuel filter as well. There is a change over switch in the cab. When operated the fuel lines ( including the return lines etc) are all changed over to the second tank via several solenoid valves. The fuel line is joined into the motor feed line before the motor fuel filter.
A gravity fed second tank is just an extension of your first tank. It will have a fuel hose that connects the two tanks straight across from the bottom of each tank. It is large, about at least 25 to 40 mm in diameter.
Cheers, karl
@@nowhereboundtouring
Hi Karl thanks for your advice, I prefer the switch option to be honest, it was a bit daunting driving back to Melbourne on the Hume, with the tank showing empty, but relying on the gravity feed from the secondary tank to fill the first tank.
I didn’t trust it to be honest, so I kept on filling the first tank up to make sure I wouldn’t run out.
Anyway first time I have driven the truck so there is a lot of things I have to get used too.
I have switched from a iveco daily 4x4 and the difference is amazing, I love the Isuzu.
I’ll call Isuzu here in Melbourne tomorrow to see what we can do in regards organising a switch ( hopefully).
Thanks again
I love what you guys do and hopefully my wife and I can do the travelling you guys do.
Thanks again
👍
Very well done
thanks mate
Hi There, just wondering about the front wheel arch flares.. I noticed you had the ones in the video but later you have a set of the ATW "premium flares" fitted... any reason why or was it for compliance reasons..?
Hi Kristian,
ATW replaced the flares as the first ones broke when they clashed with the wider tyres. The premium ones are much much better. They have more wheel clearance, and stop mud flicking up onto your side windows ( and getting into the window slide tracks).
Cheers, karl
Bloody ripper mate.
Glen Hehir cheers glad you enjoyed 👍
Hi there , we are enjoying watching your channel.
We are thinking about buying an outfit similar to your setup. We presently have a slide on we put on the back of an Isuzu DMax from which we tow a boat.
We have looked on the All terrain warriors website and see that they are company you used. I gather you were very happy with them.
Could you answer a couple of queries for us ?
Could you suggest any thing we need to consider , and would you anything you would do differently?
What fuel economy do you get when you are not towing your van ?
Cheers Liz & Paul
Gday Liz & Paul,
The fuel economy of the truck does not change with or without the van, 24l/100km.
Things to consider:
Trucks are slower and rougher than your dmax. We still tow our van at around 97km/h but when the road gets rougher, you have to slow down more ( it’s good for your van though).
All accessories are more expensive, because they are larger.
You will get twice the km out of you truck, it will last longer.
We can get almost everywhere we could when we had our Nissan- not quite, but almost. Not steep slippery hills, and hard core stuff.
It is harder to park in small crowded streets, we normally park away, in shopping centres, and take 2 to 4 spots.
You need a suspension and seat upgrade at the minimum.
From my experience ATW is a very good honest company, they produce quality, well engineered products. I would definitely recommend them, and use them again.
Any further queries, just ask.
Cheers, Karl
this is awesome well done
Thanks 👍
Hi Carl we have finally decided after a lot of time & research and trouble with Iveco, ISUZU is the Go!!!
We are doing the simple setup like you, also lots of previous travels in cruisers and patrols, I'm ex tour guide, Top end.
It's amazing as we had drawn up and done all our ideas and then we have been watching you over the year!!!! And you have done your set up just as we will.
BUT we will have a boat and a Motorbike -not roof top tent.????(weight of yr rooftop tent????)
Question is your gvm as I think you said in later video switch to lithium ( we will for sure) as your close to your gvm.??????
I'm concerned as we will carry boat and motor 120 kg. But no dogs and all their supplies.
Are you happy with the Jolca hot water unit????
Hi Adsventures,
Glad you like our set up, we love it. I would alter a couple of minor things if I did it again, but still the same.
Our tent weighs about 70kg.
We are close to our GVM and GCM. We have a heavy canopy, and a fair bit of gear and water.
The Jolca HWS is great, but you do need to keep in mind that if the water is very cold, 5deg or so, it will only heat it up just enough for a shower. It is ok, just not super hot when it is that cold.
Cheers, karl
@@nowhereboundtouring thanks Carl we
Just ordered truck!
We
Will be pretty heavy too. Love your casual honesty in ya vids. Prob meet you out on the road somewhere. Impressed
How many nights you free camp, especially having the big van. As we will too. I’m thinking about seat upgrade but wo$$$$$$$. Keep up the good work and
Keep living!!!!! Take care thanks for the reply.
It would be great to meet up somewhere.
We free camp 95% of the time. Last year we did 6 months continuous without a caravan park.
If you are going to be heavy, I would suggest you only use the 19.5 “ tyre combination. Give us a call whenever you like, our number is on our website.
Cheers, Karl & katty
Wow .VERY nice. I can dream.
Thanks for watching Andrew. Cheers Katty
Very nice rig!!
thanks Craig, gets us where we need to go 👍👍 Cheers Katty
These trucks are usually geared for off road travel, do u have some sort of overdrive for highway travel
Gday Brian,
These models are all suited to highway speeds, no overdrive is required, like the older Mogs etc.
Cheers, Karl
Hi Karl and Katty, great setup
Do you have to fill in a log book for the truck and do you have to stop at weighbridges on the highway?
Thanks,
Paul
Hi we don't have to complete a log book but we do have to pull into weigh bridges, they usually just wave us on. Cheers Katty
@@nowhereboundtouring thanks Katty, i was about to go and buy a logbook
What a beast! Subscribed.
thanks for the sub, hope you enjoy where we are taking the beast 👍
@@nowhereboundtouring loving it! Very new to the scene. TBH I just watched Mighty Car Mods do a mountain run in a Jimny and a Kei truck and now I'm hooked!
Love the truck. Where did you get the canopy/back built I couldn't hear in the video, spin in Yandina?
G'day the canopy was made by Buffalo Equip in Yandina and All Terrain Warriors made the tray and bar work etc. Thanks for watching
Cheers Katty
@@nowhereboundtouring OK Im sorted with tray and canopy with another mob which is all good thanks. Another question- do you use a pre filter or catch can on your air intake? any had dust issues?
Hi Karl, Amazing setup.
Would you be able to share a really rough cost of the truck and the canopy seperately? How does it go hard offroad?
Hi, thanks for watching,
the canopy was approximately $30k, electrical $10k, truck $90k and all truck mods $50k.
Off road the truck goes well, if it fits on the track it can do most 4x4 tracks in dry weather (sometimes easier than standard 4wd)
Hilly slippery tracks or boggy tracks present a problem due to the wait. Have broken a CV so will see how that goes in the future, may have incorrectly fitted or faulty.
Cheers Karl
@@nowhereboundtouring Thanks heaps mate! We have an Iveco Daily 4x4 but it's engine is blown :(
@@OverlandExposure that is disappointing hopefully you can get it fixed without to much expense
@@nowhereboundtouring haha. Currently looking at a 30k bill.
Overland Exposure ouch!!
Hi mate. Truck looks great.
What height is the tray from the ground?. Thinking of going with an NPS as a daily and carpentry truck but worried the deck height might be a bit much accessing tools etc.
Hi the height of the tray is 1.1 then canopy on that. That is with 37's hope that helps Cheers Katty
I have no words...
How much can it tow? Wonder if it would be able to handle a 3500Kg trailer, with a tongue weight around 850 kg.
all up we can tow 4t I think the ball weight is about 500kg but I will check with Karl cheers Katty
@@nowhereboundtouring thanks! :-)
Looks awesome. Thanks for the video. What types of dogs do you have?
Hi Darren, they are South African Mastiffs, also called Boerboel's.
Hi mate just wondering was the canopy $35k including the tray or was the tray extra
Hi Scott,
The canopy was $35k ( but I don’t think you would get it for that price now). Spring mounted Tray was $15k. Canopy fit out with electrical, batteries, fridges and Bundutop roof tent was another $20k.
Cheers
@@nowhereboundtouring awesome thank you
👍
As an alternative to all these mods, Why not a 2005 Ford f450 4x4 from factory petrol or diesel? Parts all over the net, even a blacksmith can make parts. It can go anywhere in Aussieland , even snow
Hi,
We did consider F trucks, but went with the Isuzu.
Cheers
if you had your time again which would be your choice AMT or 5 speed Manual.
Karl says manual for yah amt for road 🤷♀️
Another good vid guys!
Question...hows the brakes on it?they go ok or you have to upgrade with all the weight?
Hi Mike. we haven't needed to upgrade the brakes as the 2019 comes with better front ones. They seem to be going fine, no issues 👍
Cheers Katty
As we drive and use a lot of these trucks, that "Bash Plate" is a poor idea. That is the intercooler seen hiding in there followed by the radiator and power loss with hot intercooler is very noticeable. Back to the drawing board on that one, Good Air Flow is a MUST. AirCon condensor also suck on these, too small for Aus conditions and block up quickly. Hot from then circulate back onthemselves when stationary. Electronics in the cab like that Invertor, mount under rear seat.
👍
Hi what is the overall width of the super single tyres at the rear please?
Are the the gladiator tyres?
Thankyou Adam
Hi Adam, they are Gladiators and they are
13.5 inches.
Cheers Karl
Hi, I am wondering why wouldn't you go for an over cabin bed?
We decided that we would be more comfortable on the roof. Originally we were going to sleep in the back and have kayaks on the roof but opted for the roof tent instead, keeps us up from the crocodiles :)
Love it
glad you like 👍 Cheers Katty
What made you decide to buy this and not an Iveco daily 4x4 or a Unimog?
Hi, we chose the Isuzu over the Iveco due to its proven reliability, spare parts availability and cost.
The Isuzu construction is a lot heavier than the competitors. If you put them side by side the differences are very obvious.
The Iveco is better off road but the Isuzu can Carry an extra two tonne. The Unimog is to big off road for most treed tracks and on road performance/luxury is not good.
Cheers Karl
@@nowhereboundtouring
What about the Canter or Hino?
@@outdoors5352 looked at the Canter as 10k cheaper but wanted strength and the bigger 5.2 motor. Didn't really consider the Hino as is new and unproven.
Cheers Karl and Katty
European trucks are no good in Australia
Just FYI 1000kms from 280ltr fuel is 28ltr per hundred not 22 mate
Gday Endo,
Ok, correct, we must not use every drop in the tank.
Cheers, karl
@@nowhereboundtouring ah yes I'm with you now! I'm looking to buy a nps300 at the moment so if your 22lph is true that's bloody good to know mate. Have you had a remap done and is the speedo accurate with singles?
Gday Endo,
Please contact us via email or phone, if you would like more info. We are currently doing 24l per 100km, with or without towing.
Cheers, karl
So thinking of buys one of these trucks.. I’m concerned about the transmission overheating as I will be mainly towing as heavy as possible..? I know the GCM is 11ton.. do I need to be concerned from that perspective??
Thanks in advance.
Hi Neil, you only need to worry about the transmission if you are purchasing the AMT. We have the AMT and Karl has created a cooler, check out our website, we are having issues getting it manufactured. Cheers Katty
@@nowhereboundtouring ..thanks Katty.. I wonder are Isuzu aware of the over heating issue with the AMT? You would think they would have resolved this issue by now?? I’m saying that would you have a diagram of the cooling system you put on yours??
Again, much thanks..
@@neillgtormey we defiantly have the cad drawings of the cooler. Still trying to get it manufactured. Isuzu are aware of the issue but don't seem to be too bothered.
Cheers Katty
How do your dog's get in and out do you have to lift them up
Hi Patrick we use a table with a rubber mat on top to stop slipping. Cobar jumps up himself but Yindi only puts her from paws up and Karl has to lift her back end up, she is 8
This truck would be way too under-powered and under-torqued for touring, plus that trans cooler is WAY TOO LOUD
Suits our needs just fine, not for everyone. Cheers Katty
