I love Martha,my favorite Motown diva. I got to spend about a half hour chatting with her in her dressing room in 1996. She was so nice. Having said that,I think it's time to hang up the tambourine and enjoy retirement
she may be one of those people that don't like slowing down or enjoys entertaining people but i agree on retirement at her age she should take life a wee bit easier

I read all the comments and I see both sides. She's definitely an entertainer - no denying that fact. She also has the stamina of someone decades younger; however, her vocals leave much to be desired in comparison to her heyday. It happens to MOST singers with age ... just a fact. Got to give it to her, tho,' if people are still paying to go see the Motown Legend (obviously they are) and she's still enjoying what she does .... who are we to tell her when to hang it up. I don't like the mean-spirited comments people post (i.e. Sam the Sham). All things considered, she's a great entertainer and definitely made her share of classic contributions to the legendary Motown Soundtrack. Lastly, to Sam the Sham, Diana kind of had a luxury other artists on Gordy's roster didn't, ya know ... since she was screwing the boss and all. Some others on the label made their mark purely on merit (i.e. Martha & Vandellas).

Those terrible contracts our legends signed will have then touring the remainder of their life. There are several legends including Martha who shouldn’t even have to tour, but still need to. Her voice and so many others are shot! Beyond shot! I still adore them but it’s time for about 10 legends to stop touring!
i still thought it was fantastic her to travel to paisley & to see her in person was brilliant the gig was a fantastic gig i get what people are saying but she certainly even put me to shame with her moves on stage for her age .. not all her songs were bad i put my hands up to her & glad i got to see a fantastic motown artist

The reason he made Diana a star has everything to do with marketability. Or in other words, Diana was able to appeal more to White people. I wouldn’t say either has better stage presence than the other. Diana’s shtick is her glamour and elegance, whereas Martha has much more actual personality and is much more down to earth. That’s why they’re both stars, and we’re leaving TH-cam comments about them.
Why oh why do these older singers keep entertaining when they no longer have a voice? Martha isn't the only one. It's even hard for Diana Ross to carry a tune along with others like Johnny Mathis, Connie Francis and Liza Minelli. I'm certain none of these people need the money. It must be an ego trip for them. Can't they hear themselves? Doesn't anybody such as friends, family or business associates tell them to hang it up. I think it would be much more entertaining to see these people in a question and answer format where they don't have to embarrass themselves and others by their singing. They are all still loved, but age catches up with everyone. Hang it up you older singers.
While I love Martha's energy, her voice is shot and this is awful. She, and a few others from her generation, should've hung it up 20 years ago. When you don't even sound like a shadow of yourself from your prime recording years, you should let live performances go.

But she used falsetto which is the same thing Martha Reeves is doing. And I have a Masters degree in Music so I’m pretty sure I would know the basics and the foundation to singing. When you get a certain Age, you won’t be able to hold notes long, and belch out notes from your stomach. So they had to other choice but to use falsetto. And excuse my typing in the last reply I was in the middle of a rehearsal.
