Not sure the health of the economy has anything to do with these retail stores closing. People changed their buying habits and prefer shopping online because there are a lot more choices. I only go to an actual brick and mortar retail store for food, home repair items, and maybe a carpet for the bathroom.
It's always fun hearing a struggling company blame the macro economic environment for its bad management. I remember FEDEX doing that a year or two ago, yet UPS and other major companies continued reporting strong earnings. And Walmart is expecting a strong holiday shopping season.

I paid off 100k of my ex wife’s student loan debt…Im okay if they eliminate the debt. Don’t like high taxes? Research any or all significant tax related Federal legislation since 1969…quickly you will see a pattern emerge ..you’ll see nothing but Red. Don’t elect people that don’t have your financial best interests in mind…or just stop complaining about it

That and I never got the last online order from them, contacted their support three times about it, and only got a autoresponse email back. That was almost exactly one year ago, so who knows how many they've done that to since.
I'm seeing some decent drops in computer prices. I've been looking for a solid new computer under $1300, and over the last week on Amazon I've seen prices drop on numerous computers I'm interested in. Especially for the Ryzen 7 series.

In every city within the US we can find crappy architecture, mcdonald's, walmarts, gas stations, dollar general's and monopoly companies sprinkled over every block. Sad days are ahead
Don't forget all the Municipal buildings like Courthouses, Police Stations, etc. Once upon a time cities and towns took pride in their civic buildings, now they are just made of kindling wood and vinyl siding.
The roads are so neglected around here they are treacherous in places. I remember when..........it is truly sad and pathetic today. The mob (claiming to be our gov) has stolen all the money that was supposed to be used for infrastructure.
You’re so right about Walgreens, I went in there today to get some nail polish remover. It was six dollars for regular store brand acetone nail polish remover! It used to be two or three dollars. So I put it back and went to the dollar tree 😂 for just normal every day beauty staples like that it’s just over priced and they have everything on “sale” but you have to buy one and then get the next other on 50% off, but I don’t need two of something. I just want one at a good price.
@ they used to be pretty compatible with Walmart prices. And then they would give out coupons for five dollars off $20 purchase or more and you can make your money stretch there but in the last couple years, everything is just gotten outrageous. I’m so glad they have Aldi in my area too. I like that store because the prices are low and you can get in and get out.
There are 7 self-storage facilities within a four mile radius where I live (small town). Several are two or three stores high. People just have too much stuff. Mostly crap they don’t need.
Same near me and the insane thing is most people here live on acreage! I can't believe the amount of money people waste to store mostly worthless junk.
I work on cars and I am not surprised that Advanced Auto is closing stores. They have 3 within a 8 mile radius of me. Also they a prime example of corporate greed. I can get parts for half the price on rock auto and a lot of them are OEM. I’m ok with waiting 2 days to get parts if that means I save 50% of the cost. Other big auto parts stores will probably follow their lead here soon.
I mostly order online but retail if I need it now Oreillys is much better and cheaper. Online I have euro cars so I like Autohaus az and also Rock Auto....Both have good brands available and Rock auto is super cheap for some of the better brands
No such thing as corporate greed. If prices are too high, nobody shops there and they go out of business, that is corporate stupidity and simple economics at work.
I live in a small, but growing town and there's an Advanced Auto Parts being built here....and almost finished. We also have a Napa and Auto Zone within half a mile. Crazy.
@@MarcIverson hey marc, i buy 2 also. i cook one for practice early and freeze the breasts, make soup with the rest and freeze half of that. then depending on what happens thanksgiving, i will either cook one, or eat at another gathering, and cook the next on in december for xmas
@@bobs5596 That works! I also make sure not to waste any of the carcass but turn it into delicious stock as well. Stock from the store is nowhere near as good,, just watery and salty, and dopey-expensive, whereas mine is fantastic and more or less free!
i see lots of businesses closing where I live.... mostly restaurants, but also a lot of mom and pop shops of various types. The sad fact is, most people are realizing they have no choice but to cut back on discretionary spending to get by. Its an death spiral really.... This inflation is making us all effectively poor and desperate..
@@gabakusa but the quality is still subpar. To me that is one of the biggest problems not just with auto parts but manufactured goods altogether. Standards in quality stop existing when either moved manufacturing to China or started accepting products manufactured in China. When I was growing up, almost nothing came from China. Now it seems like everything comes from China.
The quality of manufactured goods has gone down tremendously over the years and not just with auto parts but across the board. Products break down a lot faster than they used to.
I was in Walmart last night. It was almost empty There were more employees than there were customers. It's the beginning of the Christmas shopping season and even their early sales are not moving merchandise.🤔
These companies haven't learned their lesson about pricing yet. You keep prices high no matter WHAT happens, you set yourself up for huge losses due to non-sales.
What is extra interesting about advanced auto parts closing stores is that people are keeping vehicles longer, you'd think auto parts store would gain from that.
All my vehicles over 25 years and none of them have broken but my 2020 Ram 2021 Silverado break all the time? I sold them both this year I'm done with new technology that's extremely finicky and has zero quality. Junk!
Yeah, but the older cars aren't rolling junkyards like the newer ones are. I went 200k miles on my last wheel bearings, the starters in my cars are well over 200k, the alternators are well over 200k, etc. My 31 yo Honda will outlast anything you can buy off the lot as long as it doesn't get wrecked. Meanwhile, my 2012 Versa is one more electrical issue from being a doorstop since literally half the electrical system has been garbage for years already.
Did you see the outpouring of love and support for the New York bakery that was slandered recently by a t.v. personality? The bakery described how hard they have worked night and day to provide the public with delicious breads and cakes and pies and specialties for over 150 years!!! Imagine bakers beginning their shifts at 3am daily for years to provide fresh baked goods to the public. I am sad when a popular business fails for whatever reason. It feels like a death and so sad.

We'eve been searching for our forever homestead property for 3 years now. We finally just found it in KY. 24 acres, 3000sqft house, mixed pasture/trees...it was above our budget, but we made an offer. After the realization of talking with our lender, and realized it was going to be almost 4k a month, we backed out. We have a dream, but not going to put or family at that kind of risk for it. Yes, we could have made it work, but we are currently able to put a few grand a month into savins now, and that would all go away.
Many years ago, the last time I was in an Advanced Auto Parts, they sold me the wrong headlamp bulb. I went to install it in the parking lot and wouldn't fit in the socket. I go back in the store not even 2 minutes later and they wouldn't take it back because the package was opened. Good riddance.

Spot on. This inflation is intentionally caused by the international conglomerate wholesalers who all owned by the usual suspects. Retailers such as supermarkets, etc are having to pay extortionate costs for stock from wholesalers and then have to pass it on to customers.
I was at Walgreens today and a can of Progresso soup was $4.79 same can at Walmart was $1.98 as far as I’m concerned I hope they fail…..it’s called poetic justice😊
Similar situation on hall's cough drops. I was under the weather and wasn't sure what a fair price was. Checked later at Walmart and got a second bag 3 bucks cheaper. Trying to get prescription filled can take over an hour. Told 15 minutes then 15 more minutes on second inquiry. Went out side and waited and got text it was ready. Walk back in store and informed their system just went down from power surge. Probably be back up in 20 minutes. Finally got my prescription and cough drops. Copay on prescription wasn't figured right. Still have to deal with that issue. Maybe next time I will die before I get through the transaction.
You know it's bad when they don't even stay open til the end of Christmas to clear out their stock. lol It's going to be a BAD holiday season for retailers.
The Advanced Auto Parts in my town has gone down hill tremendously over the past year. The store is dirty and run down. I don’t think anybody has swept the floor in a month. The main entrance door is jammed, which makes it very hard to open. I thought that something must be off. Now I know…
I stopped shopping at that cesspool many years ago. I don't know how it's stayed in business as long as it has....crappy stuff, mundane, and very stupid politics.

I just bought the parts to do a partial rebuild of the front suspension on my old pickup truck. Some were from advance auto parts. They had quality National bearings in stock. The parts total for most of the front suspension was $500. It's no wonder a lot of people are skipping maintenance.
My husband and I went to the mall in Boise Idaho yesterday. I stopped at Evsie & it was gone out of business right before Christmas. I also picked up some T-shirts from Macy's for 1.98 each. Crazy times.
In Wisconsin, Advanced Auto has way to many stores. Like Walgreens. And they tend to be within walking distance of a wig shop. a nail salon, and a chicken shack. Why is that?
What you’re witnessing is the end of the retail, corporate accountant scam. There’s is a Home Depot I used to go to in the south suburbs of Chicago. One of the employees told me that at one time there were a couple hundred people working there and it was one of their most profitable stores. Then they opened up a bunch more in the surrounding suburbs and turned it into one their least profitable stores. I asked her why the store was still open and she said they take count their profits collectively with the other stores. As far as other retailers there’s an over abundance of these stores. We have two Advance Auto Parts stores, three Walmarts, two McDonald’s, and some outlet stores like Beale’s, TJ Max, Ollie’s, Big Lots, two Dollar Generals and more gas stations than we need with a couple more on the way. America is over stored.
Buying/selling online is so much more efficient compared to an actual store. No strikt opening hours, only a warehouse needed, less trouble with customers. Times are changing.

Hard not to buy on amazon for myself and I imagine for many people. Would of spent 3 times or more as much keeping my truck on the road without it. Gm wants over 300 for a shifter cable, 75 on amazon and it works great. Many other cases like this. May not be good but I can't help it.
will tell you an alligator story, hard to lbelieve. Went to one of those preserves not a closed monitored park area. They had signs too watch. you could walk long the paths and those Big gators was just lying there sunning. Well at the end, of this trail near the car park. They were several people were just letting kids run around them and touch them. I was thinking whoa, what are those people thinking. Maybe they thought were tame and just there for the viewing. Told some people knew in area and were like they were very lucky. No warden or management anywhere in site.
It’s funny how just anybody can have kids, but you have to have a license for everything else 😆 I live in Florida, and I was at one of the springs last year and there was an alligator nest with a mama alligator and two or three little ones and the park rangers were letting us swim in the springs they just explained to us not to go over to the bank that they wouldn’t bother us . But it still was amazing to me that they were letting all of us swim in the springs It was crazy. 🐊

Like car parts? I am a little surprised by advanced auto but I guess a portion of their sales are discretionary. But if your car isn't working, that is usually a priority for most people.
No. I recently bought a radiator for my wife's car and it was half the price through Rock auto. Advance, AutoZone, O'Reilly's was 100 dollars more for exact same radiator.
Strange about Advance Auto Parts. I personally know the guy who was CFO for Autozone during the expansion from 100 stores to over 5000. Usually, hard times like these are very good for auto parts stores as people tend to keep what they have running instead of buying a new auto.
We have two sons and both are licensed mechanics and one of them was promoted several years ago to supervisor and both work for a large car dealership. I will just say Advanced Auto Parts is not your best choice and leave it there. We live within a mile from one in our area and have been there once. Our grandson went in and bought wind shield wipers and the employee put them on backward. It took 30 minutes to remove them and our son was shocked by this. It is still a running joke in our family on holidays. Do not let them help you if you have any other choice. God bless and thanks~
It was only a matter of time before these duplicate stores started closing. Over the years in our small town 5 auto parts stores opened up for a population that hadn’t changed much in 40 years. One store was doing well but split 5 ways it was inevitable. Same for dollar stores & chain pharmacy stores. Credit cards are the reason for propping up retail, imo, and people are wising up and realizing they better take control of their own finances and quit buying crap they don’t really want or need. You simply can’t buy happiness. Many of us tried for years and paid the consequences when retirement was creeping up with no savings. People really need to look in the mirror and place the blame where it belongs. Not true for everyone, some things are beyond your control, but in many cases much of this sense of hopelessness is self induced.
Yikes❗️It’s sad to learn about the Advance Auto Parts and other store closures. I would hate to have Walgreens and CVS pharmacies close in my area because they are so convenient for when I run out of certain items and also browsing for seasonal gifts. These are tough times where I’ve tightened up on unnecessary credit card spending and am paying over and above my minimum payments whenever possible. Mostly, I believe consumers who are managing their debt just need to be more mindful of spending and saving. That way, people won’t have to do completely without. I’ve heard on the local news here about stores and restaurants closing. I haven’t actually seen any of them physically closed yet, but been hearing about it. I never shop at Walmart. Everything is locked up there. I do frequently shop at Walgreens and CVS using their rewards app (good savings/coupons) because nothing is locked up at the stores near me.
The greenery at the open was really nice. It's clearly overcast but the depth of the greens implies lots of rain there. It looks like a comfortable cooler day. On Advanced Auto Parts: people I spoke to said that they do most of their business with local auto service places and that they don't sell that much to consumers. So closing all of these stores implies auto service places getting parts from another source. When they have a customer's vehicle in the shop, they can't really wait a few days for the part; they need it as soon as possible or they'll have to hold the vehicle overnight. I don't know what to make of that - people aren't getting their cars fixed as much or they're going to the dealer with their own parts network? On your experience with AAP: I think that a lot of people want the cheapest part that they can find because they don't plan to keep the car for long - this may explain low-quality parts out there. Usury laws in the long ago past limited consumer interest rates to 30%.
Stop shoving our money into foreign wars of Empire, forgive the outstanding student loan balances (a sunk cost), and put an END FOREVER on the government guaranteeing student loans. If banks want to profit on loaning money to people with no income or collateral then they are welcome to take that risk on their own.
Every time i go to advance for some oil stuff, it takes me a fuccin HOUR to check out because they only have one person working the register while changing the battery, and one manager who's looking for some obscure diesel spark plugs or a high pressure fuel pump for a 82 grand marquis. That alone makes me steer clear of that place. W im not even gonna talk about the $39 windshield wipers
How about colleges stop over inflating tuition by 200% and then point the finger at the job market when there are 7,000 grads & workers applying for the same few well paying jobs? Student loans are a problem because they are guaranteed. These "for profit" colleges know that they will get paid so they keep driving up the prices. Get rid of Student Loans altogether or not allow them to be backed by the government.
I stopped going to CVS probably about 10 years ago. The one near me seems like their shelves were always empty and they are expensive. Their problems started away before now.
I know my wife got laid off back in April. I saw this coming and have been preparing for it I paid my mortgage 6 months in advance and cleared out all the other little small bills here and there so when she got laid off and didn't bother us one bit. Being a boy scout really helped
The problem I found out with buying online. If they sent you the wrong parts, you have to what another week at least to return and reorder. That happened to me may time that I just stopped.

Those autopart retailers double the cost of all their items and apply it as selling price. Wholesaler alternator 360$, advance auto part 650$. No wonder why nobody is buying there (illogical pricing and corporate greed at its finest)
Doubling the cost or marking up the price is not a bad thing if you expect to make a profit. I took business math back in the early 80s and learned that some markups are even much higher than that. I used to have a reseller’s license in the late 90s. Some manufacturers/distributors would suggest a price for you to sell your product which was doubled the wholesale price.
@mildredpierce4506 i'm Sorry but that is called greed. You can double a price of a 1$ item that makes it 1$ profit. But not make 300$ profit on a single item. That is pure tefth. Beside i would recommend you to take more classes to update your economics and maths skills
remanufactured automotive parts have always been a crapshoot, I've only used them on an emergency basis, as they can be acquired locally. OEM, or reputable aftermarket parts from online retailers are the best bet if you're not in a hurry; my local stealerships keep a very basic inventory, & are prohibitively expensive.
I want my student loan from 1983 forgiven. $25K with interest and inflation, I figure it's worth bout $100K. My bachelor's degree from Boston University was worthless.
I've been buying online for the past 15 years, e.g., auto and tractor parts, guitars, home appliances, even a large pellet stove,. My food I buy online, then pick it up outside the store. There is no food deliver way out here. I don't recall going into a brick and mortar store this year. The last time I went into a physical grocery store, just for a few minute, I suffered parking lot dents. My guess why auto parts stores are closing is that few can can now afford these outrageously priced new cars that are built to stay broken.

There is a Big Lots closing not too far from where I live that is located in the same strip mall where a Safeway closed two years ago and a Jimmy John's restaurant closed a year ago. In a neighboring town, a Jeep dealership closed several years ago and not too far from that a Rue21 shuttered about a year ago. For some odd reason in this town a couple new gas stations sprung up, which seems ironic since shopping and retail options keep getting fewer thus nowhere to drive and burn up all that gas.
I know someone who bought shampoo there and actually got scalp burns from it. You can put anything inside those bottles and sell it there. You really don't know what your buying is right.
My husband's gym just closed. Members received notice in less than a week. A new firm (outside the USA) is taking over the space(s). It's not like the place wasn't busy but people will drop non essential things like gyms. It was a pretty big franchise in our area. In another note, we had to drop our son's martial arts lessons last December as they kept hiking the prices. I should say things are steadily going down hill for businesses and we live outside a MAJOR US city on the East Coast.
Auto parts stores are not wholesalers, which means they are retailers. They sell products for profits. They buy from the wholesaler and then mark up the price, which is the normal way a retail business works.

I've less delivery (Amazon, Fed-ex and UPS) trucks making deliveries in my neighborhood than a couple of years ago.

You’re so right about Walgreens, I went in there today to get some nail polish remover. It was six dollars for regular store brand acetone nail polish remover! It used to be two or three dollars. So I put it back and went to the dollar tree 😂 for just normal every day beauty staples like that it’s just over priced and they have everything on “sale” but you have to buy one and then get the next other on 50% off, but I don’t need two of something. I just want one at a good price.

And then they would give out coupons for five dollars off $20 purchase or more and you can make your money stretch there but in the last couple years, everything is just gotten outrageous. I’m so glad they have Aldi in my area too. I like that store because the prices are low and you can get in and get out.

There are 7 self-storage facilities within a four mile radius where I live (small town). Several are two or three stores high. People just have too much stuff. Mostly crap they don’t need.
Same near me and the insane thing is most people here live on acreage! I can't believe the amount of money people waste to store mostly worthless junk.

I work on cars and I am not surprised that Advanced Auto is closing stores. They have 3 within a 8 mile radius of me. Also they a prime example of corporate greed. I can get parts for half the price on rock auto and a lot of them are OEM. I’m ok with waiting 2 days to get parts if that means I save 50% of the cost. Other big auto parts stores will probably follow their lead here soon.

I mostly order online but retail if I need it now Oreillys is much better and cheaper. Online I have euro cars so I like Autohaus az and also Rock Auto....Both have good brands available and Rock auto is super cheap for some of the better brands

I live in a small, but growing town and there's an Advanced Auto Parts being built here....and almost finished. We also have a Napa and Auto Zone within half a mile. Crazy.

The sad fact is, most people are realizing they have no choice but to cut back on discretionary spending to get by. Its an death spiral really.... Yeah, but the older cars aren't rolling junkyards like the newer ones are. I went 200k miles on my last wheel bearings, the starters in my cars are well over 200k, the alternators are well over 200k, etc. My 31 yo Honda will outlast anything you can buy off the lot as long as it doesn't get wrecked. Meanwhile, my 2012 Versa is one more electrical issue from being a doorstop since literally half the electrical system has been garbage for years already.

Did you see the outpouring of love and support for the New York bakery that was slandered recently by a t.v. personality? The bakery described how hard they have worked night and day to provide the public with delicious breads and cakes and pies and specialties for over 150 years!!! Imagine bakers beginning their shifts at 3am daily for years to provide fresh baked goods to the public. I am sad when a popular business fails for whatever reason. It feels like a death and so sad.

We'eve been searching for our forever homestead property for 3 years now. We finally just found it in KY. 24 acres, 3000sqft house, mixed pasture/trees...it was above our budget, but we made an offer. After the realization of talking with our lender, and realized it was going to be almost 4k a month, we backed out. We have a dream, but not going to put or family at that kind of risk for it. Yes, we could have made it work, but we are currently able to put a few grand a month into savins now, and that would all go away.
Many years ago, the last time I was in an Advanced Auto Parts, they sold me the wrong headlamp bulb. I went to install it in the parking lot and wouldn't fit in the socket. I go back in the store not even 2 minutes later and they wouldn't take it back because the package was opened. Good riddance.

Similar situation on hall's cough drops. I was under the weather and wasn't sure what a fair price was. Checked later at Walmart and got a second bag 3 bucks cheaper. Trying to get prescription filled can take over an hour. Told 15 minutes then 15 more minutes on second inquiry. Went out side and waited and got text it was ready. Walk back in store and informed their system just went down from power surge. Probably be back up in 20 minutes. Finally got my prescription and cough drops. Copay on prescription wasn't figured right. Still have to deal with that issue. Maybe next time I will die before I get through the transaction.

I just bought the parts to do a partial rebuild of the front suspension on my old pickup truck. Some were from advance auto parts. They had quality National bearings in stock. The parts total for most of the front suspension was $500. It's no wonder a lot of people are skipping maintenance.

In Wisconsin, Advanced Auto has way to many stores. Like Walgreens. And they tend to be within walking distance of a wig shop. a nail salon, and a chicken shack. Why is that?
What you’re witnessing is the end of the retail, corporate accountant scam. There’s is a Home Depot I used to go to in the south suburbs of Chicago. One of the employees told me that at one time there were a couple hundred people working there and it was one of their most profitable stores. Then they opened up a bunch more in the surrounding suburbs and turned it into one their least profitable stores. I asked her why the store was still open and she said they take count their profits collectively with the other stores. As far as other retailers there’s an over abundance of these stores. We have two Advance Auto Parts stores, three Walmarts, two McDonald’s, and some outlet stores like Beale’s, TJ Max, Ollie’s, Big Lots, two Dollar Generals and more gas stations than we need with a couple more on the way. America is over stored.
Buying/selling online is so much more efficient compared to an actual store. No strikt opening hours, only a warehouse needed, less trouble with customers. Times are changing.

I live in Florida, and I was at one of the springs last year and there was an alligator nest with a mama alligator and two or three little ones and the park rangers were letting us swim in the springs they just explained to us not to go over to the bank that they wouldn’t bother us . Strange about Advance Auto Parts. I personally know the guy who was CFO for Autozone during the expansion from 100 stores to over 5000. Usually, hard times like these are very good for auto parts stores as people tend to keep what they have running instead of buying a new auto.

We have two sons and both are licensed mechanics and one of them was promoted several years ago to supervisor and both work for a large car dealership. I will just say Advanced Auto Parts is not your best choice and leave it there. We live within a mile from one in our area and have been there once. Our grandson went in and bought wind shield wipers and the employee put them on backward. It took 30 minutes to remove them and our son was shocked by this. It is still a running joke in our family on holidays. Do not let them help you if you have any other choice. God bless and thanks~

It was only a matter of time before these duplicate stores started closing. Over the years in our small town 5 auto parts stores opened up for a population that hadn’t changed much in 40 years. One store was doing well but split 5 ways it was inevitable. Same for dollar stores & chain pharmacy stores. Credit cards are the reason for propping up retail, imo, and people are wising up and realizing they better take control of their own finances and quit buying crap they don’t really want or need. You simply can’t buy happiness. Many of us tried for years and paid the consequences when retirement was creeping up with no savings.
People really need to look in the mirror and place the blame where it belongs. Not true for everyone, some things are beyond your control, but in many cases much of this sense of hopelessness is self induced.

I would hate to have Walgreens and CVS pharmacies close in my area because they are so convenient for when I run out of certain items and also browsing for seasonal gifts. These are tough times where I’ve tightened up on unnecessary credit card spending and am paying over and above my minimum payments whenever possible. Mostly, I believe consumers who are managing their debt just need to be more mindful of spending and saving. That way, people won’t have to do completely without. Thanks for keeping us updated on the realities that are happening during these tough economic times. 👍

I’ve heard on the local news here about stores and restaurants closing. I haven’t actually seen any of them physically closed yet, but been hearing about it. I never shop at Walmart. Everything is locked up there. I do frequently shop at Walgreens and CVS using their rewards app (good savings/coupons) because nothing is locked up at the stores near me.
The greenery at the open was really nice. It's clearly overcast but the depth of the greens implies lots of rain there. It looks like a comfortable cooler day.
On Advanced Auto Parts: people I spoke to said that they do most of their business with local auto service places and that they don't sell that much to consumers. So closing all of these stores implies auto service places getting parts from another source. When they have a customer's vehicle in the shop, they can't really wait a few days for the part; they need it as soon as possible or they'll have to hold the vehicle overnight. I don't know what to make of that - people aren't getting their cars fixed as much or they're going to the dealer with their own parts network?
On your experience with AAP: I think that a lot of people want the cheapest part that they can find because they don't plan to keep the car for long - this may explain low-quality parts out there.

I'd guess most people don't know who makes the parts the repair places use, and quite often even what parts they are.

I know my wife got laid off back in April. I saw this coming and have been preparing for it I paid my mortgage 6 months in advance and cleared out all the other little small bills here and there so when she got laid off and didn't bother us one bit. Being a boy scout really helped
By the way she's back to work now at a way better job in 25% more money
I know it cost more money, but I always get my car parts from the dealership.
Here in Philadelphia we have 8 major supermarkets in a 2 block radius

The problem I found out with buying online. If they sent you the wrong parts, you have to what another week at least to return and reorder. That happened to me may time that I just stopped.
always some scams on the internet, me i pay my money and take my chances. the few things that don't pan out are not worth the $ to hassle about them...
i always bought remanufactured water pumps, but it was fun replacing them. alternators too.

@@bobs5596 I had an alternator go out in a small town. Found a little store that had a Motorola one, it worked on my Chevy. I didn't know they made them.

Those autopart retailers double the cost of all their items and apply it as selling price. Wholesaler alternator 360$, advance auto part 650$. No wonder why nobody is buying there (illogical pricing and corporate greed at its finest)

Doubling the cost or marking up the price is not a bad thing if you expect to make a profit. I took business math back in the early 80s and learned that some markups are even much higher than that.
I used to have a reseller’s license in the late 90s. Some manufacturers/distributors would suggest a price for you to sell your product which was doubled the wholesale price.
By the way, $650 is not doubled $360. $720 would be doubled $360.
@mildredpierce4506 i'm Sorry but that is called greed. You can double a price of a 1$ item that makes it 1$ profit. But not make 300$ profit on a single item. That is pure tefth. Beside i would recommend you to take more classes to update your economics and maths skills

Car parts have gone up in price, use to cost me $7 for a gallon of antifreeze and now $13, WFT? Oil also. I'll just drive less.
remanufactured automotive parts have always been a crapshoot, I've only used them on an emergency basis, as they can be acquired locally. OEM, or reputable aftermarket parts from online retailers are the best bet if you're not in a hurry; my local stealerships keep a very basic inventory, & are prohibitively expensive.
I want my student loan from 1983 forgiven. $25K with interest and inflation, I figure it's worth bout $100K. My bachelor's degree from Boston University was worthless.
I've been buying online for the past 15 years, e.g., auto and tractor parts, guitars, home appliances, even a large pellet stove,. My food I buy online, then pick it up outside the store. There is no food deliver way out here. I don't recall going into a brick and mortar store this year. The last time I went into a physical grocery store, just for a few minute, I suffered parking lot dents.
My guess why auto parts stores are closing is that few can can now afford these outrageously priced new cars that are built to stay broken.
I didn't replace my 13 year old pellet stove because of pellets supply, Loved it.
@@robertmanley2687 Yes. We have two pellet stoves in the old badly insulated farmhouse. I'm pretty sure the smaller Kozi xl100 is at least 15 years old but it's still going. Wondering though if we'll need much heat this year here in NW Texas?
You can order parts way cheaper through Rock auto. They offer several different brands but are still cheaper than your local store

There is a Big Lots closing not too far from where I live that is located in the same strip mall where a Safeway closed two years ago and a Jimmy John's restaurant closed a year ago. In a neighboring town, a Jeep dealership closed several years ago and not too far from that a Rue21 shuttered about a year ago. For some odd reason in this town a couple new gas stations sprung up, which seems ironic since shopping and retail options keep getting fewer thus nowhere to drive and burn up all that gas.

Thanks to corporate greed, Cost-of-living goes up higher than pay increases. That’s one reason why people are broke too.
My husband's gym just closed. Members received notice in less than a week. A new firm (outside the USA) is taking over the space(s). It's not like the place wasn't busy but people will drop non essential things like gyms. It was a pretty big franchise in our area. In another note, we had to drop our son's martial arts lessons last December as they kept hiking the prices. I should say things are steadily going down hill for businesses and we live outside a MAJOR US city on the East Coast.
Anybody whose shopped at a major parts store knows they are full blown retail plus some. So some of this is their own fault
Auto parts stores are not wholesalers, which means they are retailers. They sell products for profits. They buy from the wholesaler and then mark up the price, which is the normal way a retail business works.
@mildredpierce4506 no kidding? I'm talking about how much they mark up. They are well above everybody else, especially the on line retailers.
