Desmond Doss is the ultimate medic of all medics. He didn’t shoot one single bullet because of his religious beliefs and saved so many lives, rest in peace Desmond Doss.
The idea of soldiers prioritizing their faith while actively engaging in war adds a fascinating layer of complexity to how we view historical conflicts. It’s intriguing how religion could both inspire unity and create tension within armies depending on the circumstances.
Being a hunter before joining the military is a plus. Alvin York is a hunter Carlos Hathcock is a hunter Vasily Zaitsev is a hunter Simo Hayha is also a hunter. While Chris Kyle is a rancher.
Think of how many lives Desmond Doss is responsible for ! Not only did he save his fellow soldier's (and some enemy's) lives, but he also made it possible for them to return home and have children, and for them to have children and so on. At this point the number should at least be in the high hundreds if not the thousands. Doss really did accomplish his goal of preserving life while everybody else was busy destroying it.
During the WWI, and WWII, happened that some boys did even joined the war. Also during the WWII there were some priest that lived in Yugoslavia, they joined the Yugoslav partisans that were led by Josip Broz Tito. Also one other fun fact is this. The first ever reported shoot down of a plane occurred during the WWI in Serbia in 1915. What happened was that the tree planes bombed city of Kragujevac. Soldiers and army desperately was trying to shoot down the planes. They used gun machines, pistols, and rifles, but no effect. But one soldier who was near the cannon decided to give it a try. And that soldier is Radivoje Raka Ljutovac. He waited the right moment to have one of the planes in sight, which had happened. Once one of the planes was in position, he fired a cannon, and the shell hit the plane, and the plane crashed. Then Radivoje Raka Ljutovac has mounted a horse, and he went to the crash site, where he saw three dead pilots. When he saw the dead bodies, he saluted to them. As for kids that did join the WWI there was one boy, who was age 8. And his name was Momčilo Gavrić. He was the youngest corporal in Serbian army. He was the youngest soldier who joined the war. He survived Cer, Kolubara, the retreat via Albanian snowy mountains, and Corfu. Due to that, he was sent to school in Greece, and later in UK. He returned home after the graduation, and after the liberation. He decided to have a printing press when he came home to Yugoslavia. When WWII begun in Yugoslavia in 1941, he joined the Yugoslavian army, where his unit had to surrender due to the Blitzkrieg. He was a POW. He managed to escape POW camp, and get back to printing press where he decided to go underground. He helped resistance, and also he saved some Jews. That was going, until the Gestapo arrested him, and he was sent to concentration camp. There he also decided to escape the concentration camp, where after that he joined the resistance, and survived the WWII. In WWII, there was a also a boy called Boško Buha. He was 15 years old when he joined the Yugoslavian partisans. He was good in handing the grenades. Unfortunately he didn't survive the WWII. He was killed in one ambush in 1943 when he was traveling on lorry. The priests that were in Yugoslav partisans during the WWII are following: Blažo Marković, Jevstatije Karamatijević, Djordje (it means George) Marinković, Milan Smiljanić, Nikola Drenovac, and Vlada Zečević. They all survived WWII, and some of them became ministers helping Yugoslavian president Josip Broz Tito. That's one history told here.

I'm an Australian and even i know that there was no Airborne in WW1. 82nd AIRBORNE division (all American) was originally the 82nd INFANTRY division (all American) prior to ww2.
Here's something fun had just gone over Alvin York and some other American WW1 heroes in history class and the next day Simple History posts a video on Alvin York. Possible coincidence?
29:00 ironically it's the Canadians that were committing war crimes and I don't know how often they did or if they ever did. It seems to happen more often and I don't know anything was done about them and some of the worst brutalitys were being done by the same side liek you be punished for not literally running out of the trensh and into your death when the oder was given. Edit the French did mutiny and refused to go out of the trensh and attack the germans with predictable results and they did defend the trenches against german offense but would never attack themselves most of the time in the later parts of ww1. Aslo btw I not a expert in ww1 and I more of a ww2 person but I don't know how often war crimes were committed in ww1.
The German soldiers were running at York. If he shot and killed the first (closest) the others would see him fall and possibly take cover making them harder to kill, or possibly kill York or his buddy. By shooting the last one (furthest) first it seems to the attacking Germans that York's shooting has no effect, so they continue charging. Supposedly, this technique was used to hunt turkeys, making it possible to kill a flock vs. Just the lead bird.
This video was truly engaging, well done Simple History. These stories were very intriguing and engaging. Desmond Doss was one of the greatest men to have ever lived, his actions were absolutely admirable because thanks to him many young men got to return home to their families. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and everyone🎅🎄🎁!

History is full of incredible stories: the most decorated soldier who never wanted the fame. True courage in the face of horror
Absolutely!
The story of Desmond Doss always makes me cry. I'm glad that his name became popular in cinema; Hacksaw Ridge.

About the LT that blew his hand off? The animation shows the pin and spoon still on. A hand grenade will never blow up with those in.
