  • RECENTLY REALIZED the 18 vt Ryobi drill just doesnt have enough power to drill into some of the walls I encounter, and sometimes using a small metal drill in the window frame area works , it also helps to have ,,the right tool for drilling hard concrete ,, special drill bits you might not need a sds drill but a decent mains voltage hammer drill should do the trick
    the kinda drill bits they sell at trade shows that drill into eveything

      @GHOOGLEMALE I usually start with a small drill bit then bigger ones more chance of gettiing it in the right place..sometimes a battery drill won't do the job

    the more important question is, is it okay to be drilling into the lintel to begin with?

    • @BearwoodBrown
      @BearwoodBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi ya Reedy I dont see any problem ,,i think u dont need to drill deep into lintel ,,just enough to get a wall plug to work ,Ive never seen a lintel failure have u ??

      @@BearwoodBrown no but I'd imagine there is a good chance you would be underneath it if it did, in any event I drilled 3 holes 35mm deep successfully into a 2.4m span lintel and it did not fail on me so happy days.

    I have the same problem. When you hit something solid behind the drywall, how do you determine whether it is steel or concrete?

    • @BearwoodBrown

      I use a metal detector which works great on older buildings . new houses have metal stud walls and metal covered insulation that drives the metal detector carzy then u have to relie on experience and pray

    And do these "special drills" have a brand name or "type name" that one could use to find some?

    • @BearwoodBrown
      @BearwoodBrown  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      if it just Masonry bits then buy good quality and u should be OK also if possible use a mains drill ,,, better still a sds drill and bits

    Great video if you have loads of different drill bits......so I ended up fixing my rod to the ceiling and just put long curtains up.......that’s a woman’s solution

      I have since learned u need a heavy duty drill with the right bits to drill these concrete headers. But I like your get er done style

      it's what I would do if we made homes out of cardboard in my country like you guys do in the US but fortunately we use concrete everywhere.

    I have the same problem. I have a standard hammer Bosch drill, and I hate having to buy a SDS drill just to hang my curtain rail, but I guess I will. What do you recommend as I don't want to spend a lot of money, since it'll only be for hanging curtain rails. By the way, I am also a fellow American residing in the UK

      first choose the right size ,, then go to tool shop or Screw fix and buy the best one you can afford or want to pay for if you are not in a hurry look at amazon I find starting with a small drill bit helps alot for accuracy and just for drilling

      Buy a corded SDS drill. For what you want to use it for, any cheap one will do. More importantly though, use an SDS drill bit a half size smaller than what you intend to drill. So if you are drilling a 6mm for a red rawl plug, then use a 5.5 as it will jump around as you drill the hole, so you can make your 6mm hole with a 5.5. Don’t forget to use some lube on the bit in the drill as well. Good luck....

    For your baggy use an envelope and masking tape to attach it to the wall
    underneath your hole

    • @BearwoodBrown
      @BearwoodBrown  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had some paint come off with the tape. I am now holding a damp cloth under the drill seems to work pretty good

    Hopeless. Um! Ah!
    Keeping sodding camera still!
    Don't point it into the light.
    A completely useless video. Nothing that couldn't be fixed with a bit of planning.
