2023 29 Dengue in children

We will learn about dengue, the flavivirus spread by the mosquito Aedes aegypti (and in recent years A. albopictus). We will understand the immunopathology, including protective and non-neutralizing antibodies, the concept of “antibody-dependent enhancement” (increased viral replication in the setting of a second infection), and why there is vascular permeability, the clinical signs and differential diagnosis, and the fluid management and supportive care of dengue of different severity.
