The worst post-alcohol headache I've ever had was when I finished off an Italian meal with a single shot of limoncello, then I woke up at 3am from the most skull splitting headache
I'm 597 days sober today - do NOT miss the hangovers. Make no mistake, alcohol (even in small amounts) is incredibly bad for the human mind and body. We were not meant to ingest alcohol, if you're thinking of quitting please do...sobriety is god mode.
I hadn't drank for over 5 years and decided last night to have a few. It was fun but I'm paying today. Now for another 5 years. Being a non-drinker is definitely the best mode hands down.
Working in retail alcohol sales, it amazes me how many people convince themselves that it's the residual sugar in certain wines or syrupy liqueurs that gives them a headache. Hmmm. When was the last time you said 'no cake for me, I have to work in the morning and don't want to feel hung over'.
I used to not have hangovers in college. But now, oh boy! There's now just a fine line between a chipper morning and puking my guts out. Luckily, I don't get the photophobia, headaches, and other symptoms with it, though. But even the G.I. issues alone sucks. I hate the feeling so now I just drink probably three times a year max on special occasions.
This video was greatly informative and a good introduction. I hope more specific explanations and deeper detail may come in more videos and might coincide with other topics.
Fun Fact: Today, 7/5/2022, the day this video came out, the first hangover pill, Myrkl, was created by a UK pharmaceuticals company. This was either a very strange coincidence or the people at Ted-Ed have insider information in pharmaceuticals...
Its not really a hangover pill, its a pill that makes you not get drunk. Also, there have been dozens of hangover pills over the years. None of them are very effective
That's funny, considering I ordered and consumed a bottle of hangover pills called AfterDrink well before this video came out. Also, I've been using hangover pills or drinks for years. The drinks (Morning Recovery) work better, but if you get the right ones, both have noticeable results. AfterDrink helps, but you have to take three large capsules before and after drinking and it only helps a little bit. Morning Recovery tastes bad, but you chug a bottle before passing out and you wake up feeling like you didn't drink at all. It's a damn miracle.
From my experience drinking lots of water and eating a proper "cooked" meal cures my hangovers in a few hours. Never have I taken medications to treat it. And that's after drinking _lab grade_ 95% ethanol (after dilution of course).
I find getting up and doing something has always helped my hangover! Throwing up straight away, Hot shower, a litre of coconut water and spicy noodles with veg has helped too
I never get hangovers and all I do is practice 2 things. 1. Stay Hydrated. I am not afraid to drink water in between drinks. I generally aim to drink as much water as I have peed. But in practice, its probably only about half that. But it works. 2. I make sure I can sleep in. I limit my drinking based of that. Sometimes I have to work the next day, so I reverse engineer my schedule to make sure I get lots of sleep. The less time I have, the less I will drink that night. Sleeping it off with lots of water will take out the hangover for me. At worse, I feel a little off the next day. I've had the odd hangover in my life for sure. But it might only account for 1% of my drinkings. As for most of the time, I can get up, go to work, and not be hindered in the slightest.
They need a bigger group. I volunteer. But not for the control group. If you can make somebody drink non alcoholic beverages and convince them they are drunk, you are a genius.
The extremely unpleasant feeling of hangover made me quit drinking... many times already. lol But seriously i haven't been drinking for maybe around 3 years now. Don't remember the last time.
I'm guessing there might be more extra components besides ethanol and methanol. I once drunk 200ml (4%) of cider and got a horrible hangover. At the same time, I can drink 500ml (5%) of ginger cider and I feel perfectly fine already after an hour.
It would depend on so much. Did you drink enough the day you got hangover compared to not? Did you eat well? Were you rested? Etc. Plus you drunk more than twice as much liquid with the second drink than the first.
This is scary thinking about the college student that is now paralyzed and blind from severe alcohol poisoning due to hazing at a fraternity pledge party.
I've always been immune to hangovers, to the point that I always forget they're something other people experience. I can knock back as much alcohol as I want and wake up fine. I thought this might change as I got older, but happily no. I'm over twenty years into my "drinking career" and still not affected by hangovers. I suspect it's in large part because I don't get dehydrated. I always drink a glass or two of water for each alcoholic beverage I consume, just from preference -- I also drink a glass or two of water for each coffee, tea, or soda I drink. I always enjoy having a meal, or at the very least snacking or having dessert, when I'm drinking too, so perhaps that plays into the glucose thing the video talked about.
@@TechNextLetsGo You watched this video and concluded that a hangover is the result of dehydration? There's much more to it than just that. Dehydration is only one part.
After having the most out off body experience on psilocybin, I feel my outlook and plan for my life has changed. I got so much work done in my head in those 6 hours, I really wish it’s that easy to get them here in Texas, I'll be very glad
I’ve been microdosing for years now and it was truly helped me with my trauma. It’s helped with my anxiety, depression & PTSD. Always respect the drug & understand what you want to take from it.
If you don't drink, you wouldn't need to deal with this nonsense. I mean, if getting hungover is becoming such a problem to the point where you actively have to suppress it from occurring, I think just stopping drinking alcohol altogether is the best solution. It's better to be safe than sorry and you'd make your body much more happier.
Drink pickle juice in the morning(can of pickles in vinegar). It relives headache in moments. Depends on the person of course. But that's a general tip that all who drink alot knows about. I usually drink beer, and I often keep can of pickles in case I get headache.
A fascinating and detailed lecture from Judy Grisel! Thank you to the channel creator for sharing valuable insights into how alcohol causes hangovers, highly appreciated and a valuable source of information!
I’m 33 and recently had one of the worst hangovers. It lasted almost 3 days. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I didn’t puke. So all that booze was just sloshing around in my gut. I came close to throwing up but ended up dry heaving. Don’t wanna do that again. Looks like my heavy drinkin days are over ladies & gentlemen!
Can you imagine waking up feeling dreadful and having fish soup for breakfast? That's encebollado for Ecuadorians, it's that good🙌✨. That's our main dead-awaker dish and if you call it just a fish soup, you're gonna get cussed at😆🇪🇨 It has albacore, cassava, tomato, red onion, cilantro, chili powder, cumin AND CHIFLES (can not forget them). I'll love to hear others country's remedies for hangovers!
In Mexico i've most commonly seen Menudo (spicy beef tripe soup) used as a hangover cure. Hungover or not Menudo is amazing and I always recommend people try it, despite the main ingredient. In the region of Mexico that my family is from Consomé de birria (rich spicy broth that goat meat is cooked in for tacos) is also used as a hangover cure.
The worst hangover I’ve ever had was when I went to a friends birthday and we drank so much and a bunch of different types of alcohol. I had wine beer and many shots of various types of hard liquor because they did a piñata but with shots instead of candy. I woke up early the next day and my heart and head were pounding and I tried to get up and I instantly felt lightheaded and had to sit back down until I ate a and drank a little something I could barely stand for more than a minute without feeling severely lightheaded . It was horrible!
The narrator and animation do a surprising job of making one of the deadliest drugs seem innocuous (alcohol accounts for about 5% of the world's deaths each year).
Never had an alcoholic beverage in my life and don't plan on it. Not because I think any nonzero amount of alcohol is poison, mind you, I just don't get the appeal. I've been told pure alcohol tastes bad, and whatever flavoring the other ingredients give the drink I imagine I can also get in plenty of nonalcoholic beverages too. Plus nonalcoholic beverages don't have to be consumed in moderation lol.
A couple days ago I tried Tequila for the very first time. Me and a buddy polished off 750ml and I only drink Tequila from now on. That drink is on a whole other level. I wasn’t hung over the next morning I actually felt better that I was feeling for weeks prior to that morning. Only problem is the 750ml is about $50-$60 bucks. But it’s worth every dime.
I've never had a hangover. Even when everyone else drinking with me did get one. But I will get a headache if I sober up before I go to sleep or get sick to my stomach if I drink too much
For someone who doesn't suffer from hangovers, or headaches, this is interesting. I've mixed and binged drank, and been fine the next day or a few hours after drinking. In fact, functioned well the next day even after not sleeping the previous night. Vodka is the only alcoholic drink that has made me puke, however. Not a favorite.
Normally when I’m drunk and I want to go to sleep, I would first drink three cups of tea (with bag in the cup as I drink) and that helps me fall asleep and dramatically eases the hangover the next morning
"I will never drink again". This is the most universal statement of all time.

Yeah I give up the drink 6 years ago and went onto smoking meth. Best thing in my life. So Much more active, happy and healthy. Meth saved my life.
Watching this while being hungover hits different 😂
Watching while being drunk knowing you'll be hangover hits different jelp.😊
I love being drunk mate😊
Working in retail alcohol sales, it amazes me how many people convince themselves that it's the residual sugar in certain wines or syrupy liqueurs that gives them a headache. Hmmm. When was the last time you said 'no cake for me, I have to work in the morning and don't want to feel hung over'.
She sounds so happy and calm telling us all these bad news😭😭😭😭
A good video on alcohol consumption and it's effects!! Loved the presentation.
Who's Max?
I've been alcohol-free for 19 months now. I certainly don't miss the hangovers.
Nobody does. Just the "feeling good sensation"

'Alcohol's also bad *if* you're a diabetic; the sugars in alcohol are not the right kind of sugars needed to regulate blood-sugar-levels...
From my experience drinking lots of water and eating a proper "cooked" meal cures my hangovers in a few hours. Never have I taken medications to treat it. And that's after drinking _lab grade_ 95% ethanol (after dilution of course).
I find getting up and doing something has always helped my hangover!
Throwing up straight away, Hot shower, a litre of coconut water and spicy noodles with veg has helped too
If someone watched this who has never drank alcohol, they'd wonder why in the world anyone would want to
Yes please tell me why in the world do people even drink it if it causes so many problems
@@suhani551because it feels so good before the problems start😂
@Jordan Rouse lol
In a 1973 study, 20 volunteers.......got drunk
😂 not how I expected the sentence would end...
They need a bigger group. I volunteer. But not for the control group. If you can make somebody drink non alcoholic beverages and convince them they are drunk, you are a genius.
That's one of the many things I definitely don't miss about drinking, especially when the next day is pretty much ruined lol.
What a day to upload this lol.
Perfect timing 👌
I always have chips or bread and drink lots of water before sleeping, and I notice how much it helps with hangovers
The extremely unpleasant feeling of hangover made me quit drinking... many times already. lol
But seriously i haven't been drinking for maybe around 3 years now. Don't remember the last time.
Needed this yesterday bro.
I'm guessing there might be more extra components besides ethanol and methanol. I once drunk 200ml (4%) of cider and got a horrible hangover. At the same time, I can drink 500ml (5%) of ginger cider and I feel perfectly fine already after an hour.
Are you certain that the ginger cider contained alcohol?
It would depend on so much. Did you drink enough the day you got hangover compared to not? Did you eat well? Were you rested? Etc. Plus you drunk more than twice as much liquid with the second drink than the first.
I like how this style of animation is used with alcohol
Whoever is doing these animations should be given a raise.
It's all the water, that's what a hangover is. Drink water with alcohol and you're fine.
Same here. No sweet sugary stuff and water.
@@TechNextLetsGo You watched this video and concluded that a hangover is the result of dehydration? There's much more to it than just that. Dehydration is only one part.
@@castleanthrax1833 dehydrations definitely a massive factor though

It’s super sad that we have to be so secretive about it. It’s part of Mother Earth. Not man-made like alcohol or meth.

Oh my God, I remember when I experienced hangovers that lasts for 12 hours.
I have a cure for that. Throw away all your clocks and watches.
3 days for me my first hangover.
Oh it was so so bad.
Pickle juice, thank me later.
Anyone else drinking alcohol as they’re watching this?
Who ever animated this, i love you
3 years no alcohol. makes a crazy difference
I just got home from working with one of the worst hangovers I've ever had in my life. Worst feeling ever
Man. Alcohol is literally poison. 0/10. Would definitely drink again.
Drink pickle juice in the morning(can of pickles in vinegar). It relives headache in moments. Depends on the person of course. But that's a general tip that all who drink alot knows about.
I usually drink beer, and I often keep can of pickles in case I get headache.

100% effective cure for hangovers: Don't drink. Plain and simple.

This whole video basically says alcohol is terrible for you, but unfortuately all the alcohol ive drunk has removed my ability to learn

Should have seen this back when i was 15
Drinking hurts my liver while smoking hurts my lung, but abstinence hurts my heart.
What I've learned from this video: alcohol hurts the powerhouse of the cell
It hurts da ATP machine!
Sugary and caffeinated drinks should be consumed in moderation.

I read it as “ how does alcohol *cure* a hangover “
Maybe we are all drunk and alcohol makes us sober.
I’m eating crisps and falling asleep on the sofa, just back from a night out. Hate to say that this video will probably haunt me in the morning
Tequila activates my gag reflex 😭

For someone who doesn't suffer from hangovers, or headaches, this is interesting. I've mixed and binged drank, and been fine the next day or a few hours after drinking. In fact, functioned well the next day even after not sleeping the previous night. Vodka is the only alcoholic drink that has made me puke, however. Not a favorite.
Let's wait a few years and see if you still have that immunity to hangovers...

Normally when I’m drunk and I want to go to sleep, I would first drink three cups of tea (with bag in the cup as I drink) and that helps me fall asleep and dramatically eases the hangover the next morning
