    I bought this box - not for a force but just for fun - and build and painted one already. It is a great kit. I put it beside my 1/48 scale Tamiya E8 and its details was still good. Highly recommended.
    Good old Fog-of-War-quality video. Keep up the great work.

      I bought the Spearhead Starter Box just for fun too. I don’t play Americans. I just wanted to build the kits!

    I think these plastic kits need some lead weigts that can be glued into the tanks tub and gives the model more weight. The old resin & metal models feel much better while playing, despite the fact they are less detailed. I use old lead-cord used for curtains. Nice way to recycle that stuff instead of dumping it into a landfill.

      This is always an interesting debate. I actually dislike the weight of resin-and-metal miniatures. I prefer the lightness of plastic. But I wonder if that is because I came to the hobby from scale modelling rather than wargaming.

    E8 is an interesting one, as it only refers to the HVSS with the 76mm T23 turret being the E6.
    In service the vehicle's designation was the M4A3 76mm(w) HVSS medium tank.

      Hi SPaMuRai GRaNaTaBRu. As far as I can tell, the E6 designation refers to 75mm M4A3s that have had the M3 75mm gun replaced with the M1 76mm gun. They retain the older 75mm Sherman turret, not the larger T23-based one. They just shoe-horned the bigger gun into the existing turret. The T23 turreted versions were the E8s. But I could be wrong. I'm no Sherman surgeon! :-)

      @@FogofWar Good thing I am attempting to become such a surgeon!
      The designation has overlaps depending on variant and period, as many 76mm Shermans were converted from 75mm turrets Firefly style with vehicles like the M4A1E6 and M4A3E4.
      But the original tank with the T23 turret was a late hull M4A3 designated the M4A3E6 and mounting the original VVSS suspention which then spread to vehicles like the late M4A1 and the M4A2s sent to the Soviet Union.
      Its a massive mess, one I have delved into ever since becoming obsessed with the vehicle some decade ago.

    Great review for lQQks like a great kit. Alas, my lead and resin E8 box, which came out several years ago, is still NIB so I doubt I'll pick this kit up.

      Good to have the Easy Eight in plastic though.

    Great review. I agree that as awesome and iconic as this tank is, 2 points when a regular "late" 76 is one point just seems excessive. I feel this is just another example of the 100 point system failing. No way does the E8 give twice the incremental value over the 75 as the vanilla 76 does, but since they rarely do fractional points, here we are.

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 100-point system does lack some “granularity” for fine distinctions between very similar units. The alternative would be BF rating the E8 for the same points as the other 76mm Shermans, but then why would anyone use anything but E8s? It is a dilemma.

    My question is, if you were a gamer with finite resources playing an American army, why would you buy these if you could only use them in games simulating Dec1944 onwards or thereabouts? I always thought the earlier variants were more adaptable. That's the only reason why I am not excited by the new Bulge box.

      I guess having one, maybe two boxes for Bulge lists to mix up the Platoons might be considered fun for some players? That way you aren’t breaking the bank building an entire Squadron/Company of them, but can still run them in specific lists should you need them.

      There is no argument that you would get more use out of M4A1s as you can use the 75s for mid-war and the 76s for D-Day to war’s end. But nice kits. I just wanted to build some.

    You forgot the special rule. If you paint the word 'Fury' on the model you forfeit the game :)

    • @FogofWar
      @FogofWar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you paint the word “Furry” on it, that’s a whole different game!
