10:16 hey Ti. I’m a daycare worker and I agree there’s nothing for the in betweeners anymore. And even things for babies and toddlers are kinda overstimulating now a days. My director doesn’t allow cocomelon whatsoever, and we often end up showing the kids old shows and movies on Disney Plus, and I found old free episodes of Sesame Street on TH-cam as well

Heck, sometimes their father and I think they forgot some of them are grown. I don't see what these younger parents see in forcing their kids to be grown before their time.

Im a high school teacher. The students don’t know basic math skills or can write a complete sentence. Often complain when they have to read anything longer than a paragraph. One of my recent lessons was going over how to multiply by 5’s and 10’s. They are still having trouble with multiplying to the point I had to hand out the charts again. Mind you these kids are between the ages of 14 to 18. I can go on and on because as the teachers it feels like we’re failing them but I’m not understanding how they have all these electronics and social medias but parents won’t crack down on having an education

Most of the commentators who think this is ok mentioned what they experienced as children that they, themselves, said they shouldn't have been doing. Then, in the same breath, stated they don't see the problem with the kids at the brunch doing similar things. If you thought you shouldn't have been doing it then why say these kids should do it? Doubled-minded people are unstable in all their ways. Me and my sisters bought the bubble gum cigarettes and tobacco, took fake shots, and danced provocatively as kids but we did it amongst ourselves because our parents didn't play that. Kids used to have reverence for their elders and there was a clear line draw when around elders. Let kids be kids! Just because you partied and drank mocktails as a kid and turned out 'ok' doesn't mean other kids that did those things didn't end up going down a bad path. Train a child in the way that they should go typically means training them to do something that promotes enrichment in adulthood. Illiteracy is at an all time high(amongst children AND adults), start a children's book club instead and invite their illiterate elders too.

They are also pretending that this is healthy and normal as opposed to being “sheltered”. My parents set clear boundaries, what was appropriate and what wasn’t. I never acted out once I was of age. I realized it wasn’t my comfort environment and never went nuts despite being “sheltered”. Now some of my peers who were allowed a sip of alcohol as teens, or whose parents were more loose- they continued their partying ways into adulthood. I think there’s a difference between keeping your kids ignorant and setting boundaries for your underage children.

My daughter is a junior in high school and I wouldn’t let her go to something like this. I have taken her to brunch and tea to get the experience but it’s nothing like that. It’s just a nice restaurant or tea house/ cafe and we get dressed up.
When she was a tween, she didn’t have a phone or social media. We didn’t even let her watch TV or screens on school days. She had activities and sports on Saturdays.
There are not a lot of kids friendly spaces, but there are still skating rinks, bowling, movies, arcades, parks, beaches, museums pools in the summer. Parents can create their own spaces for kids, they can hang out at each other’s houses.
I didn’t listen to music with profanity around her and I don’t use profanity, nor do I drink. As parents, it’s our job to set the guidelines and to be the example.

What kind of brunch has turn up music and bottle girls? I've been to many brunches and usually it's a calm get together where people are catching up and chatting. Yeah, there might be some mimosas, but they're typically served by regular waiters and waitresses. I've lived in NYC, Trinidad, and Florida and have never experienced a full-on party environment at a brunch.

Here's my take, when I look at children who come from wealth, they are dressed as children and able to be kids, but, I noticed that in the lower class, black, white, latino, etc. It is the opposite and the kids are doing everything but being kids. It also ties in with how some child spaces, take money for your kids to be apart of the little community, such as with extracurricular activities if that makes sense. It is like your kids can't be little kids anymore. Another example, like how those who are wealthy dont let their kids on social media all day every day. They are doing child things or education based things. I could be totally wrong, but where I live, I notice a huge difference. And OF COURSE, NOT ALL. Just a thought.

Some of the stuff they come back and tell me about kids in their school… scares me, how they speak, the songs they sing. My daughter knows better and I only pray she doesn’t follow behind them with all that. My kids play with kids that are their speed, bc kids are being exposed to everything. They can’t be left alone with any of their cousins on dad’s side at all bc of what they seen on a family trip with them. Nope, wouldn’t take my babies nowhere somewhere like this.

That girl saying partying when you’re younger helps you navigate adulthood….. there are some experiences you’re meant to enjoy at certain life stages. Why would you want to be tired of parties by the time you get to college when college is the appropriate time in your life to have party? People experience everything too fast by the time they get to the time to experience things at an appropriate age they think they’re casket ready. That’s why you have 50 years old acting a fool and 25 year olds that are already tired of life.

  • @adriennebrailsford6291

The lack of exclusive spaces for children becomes a removal of safe spaces for children. If we don’t see childhood as something special, meaningful, necessary and to be protected, just for them- they won’t. There are foundational and fundamental aspects of growth and development that are present in every experience the child has. To put children in scenarios that are made for adults, makes for missed steps, misdirection and confusion about what we actually value. What will children have to look forward to when participation has no prerequisite. Do the parents not cherish their child’s innocence, the process of nurturing and the confidence they instill in them? Did the parents not value their childhood. If you don’t have the opportunity to navigate your child’s logic and understanding of all you’ve been teaching in playtime… you’ll be re evaluating , putting out fires and supporting the mistakes made in their real life earlier and much more in a nearer future.
