Mash Potato was the dance back then. Not sure if the youth of today even have dances related to the time as we did. What a time it was, and glad about it. The memories are priceless.
Little Eva was songwriter Carole King’s baby sitter. “"The Loco-Motion" (or "Locomotion") is a 1962 pop song written by American songwriters Gerry Goffin and Carole King. "The Loco-Motion" was originally written for R&B singer Dee Dee Sharp, but Sharp turned the song down.” “The song is an enduring example of the dance-song genre; much of the lyric is devoted to a description of the dance itself, usually performed as a type of line dance. However, the song pre-dates the dance.”
I definitely know this song but don't remember this artist Little Eva. There's so many artist and songs, it's alot to remember and keep up with. Classic.
As others mention, she was babysitting for Carole King and Gerry Goffin when this was written. She was already signed to a label but she needed to make money while waiting for a hit. She used to dance to the songs as they would be writing them and one time she did a dance move that reminded them of a train and that was all they needed for inspiration to write her first hit record.
Little Eva was a babysitter for Carole King (songwriter) some of the Shirelles hit songs were written by Carole King, check out WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMORROW by The Shirelles written by Carol King. Also check out MASHED POTATO by DEE DEE SHARP another dance hit of that time period and DEE DEE SHARP was also about 17 years old
I remember dancing to this song at age seven and seeing her on TV. Carole King was a magnificent writer, check out her song It’s too late and the album it’s on. There is another song similar to this called The Mashed Potato by Dee Dee Sharp, you did I really love you by her, check it out.
@@ladycharliestallworth2280 yes I remember and I loved her on that record...I keep hearing about the mashed potatoe.....Ms. lady ain't that the dance the C Contours were doing?

I just looked up Barbara Mason, and she was only 18 when she sung yes I’m ready. I thought she was much older than that. By the way, she is still with us at 77.
And this was by the baby sitter for major songwriter Carol King! She also had hits as the second voice on "Swinging On A Star (One moon beam two moon beam)" by Big Dee Irwin (though she was uncredited) and "Let's Turkey Trot." The only time you hear a young girl singing material of this type nowadays - with the exception of Amy Winehouse's dicsovery Dione Bromfield (in which Amy joined her on The Shirelles' classic "Mama Said") is on shows like "American Idol" where they sing songs other from the past.
I was going to suggest "Swinging on a Star" but you beat me to it! Lol But I will suggest that he watch the video of "Swinging on a Star" that has stop motion claymation animation, complete with a dancing pig! SO funny! th-cam.com/video/-0I7qvXrA4s/w-d-xo.html
Was a Huge hit sadly Her only one, but she did have some pretty good other releases. Two of my favorites Please hurt me Keep your hands off of my baby, which was a minor hit for her✌️
Little Eva's follow up to this record "Take Your Hands Off My Baby" reached #12 and was in some ways superior to The Locomotion with its more sophisticated chord structure. The Beatles also recorded Little Eva's "Take Your Hands Off My Baby." Little Eva's first album was also very good. Little Eva was unable to sustain the momentum of a hit making career and she disappeared after a while and did not resurface again for 20 years when she suddenly started touring again on the oldies circuit.
Please note that even in the 60s and earlier, teenagers were “active“ if you know what I mean. Not everybody was innocent. They were a lot of babies born less than nine months after a couple got married. Girls were wearing white wedding dresses when they should’ve been beige. I’m not judging I’m just saying that people were “active” before marriage and as teenagers in high school. They were teen pregnancies and unwed mothers. Everything that goes on now, went on back then except it wasn’t as in your face and blatant as it is now.

When Michael Jackson was with the Jackson 5, he was around 11 years old singing love songs. That is sort of what made the group and him stand out.
