It is true, it will cost way less to knock it down and build brand new,…and it will be way better. Renovating each single home, will cost a ridiculously higher amount,…and it will not be anywhere near as good.
This is what they did in Chicago Illinois. And all other places in the United States of America 🇺🇸 And it did not work out good the big companies own those towers now and those properties and they do what they want with them Try and save the towers if you can.
Here in Melbourne Australia they pulling the old ones down and building new ones from saved cash left over from the state budget . But I think it would be better if they put the money towards punching more land and uses the federal government housing money to build 3 bedroom unit's. It would allow more unit's to be built rather pulling down an old tower and re build another one. That will cost more to maintain later.. I'm not sure what you call unit's in the US. But here in Australia they are basically a smaller house usual between 14 to 18 square metres with a single garage and very small back yard. A very basic house usually 2 or 3 bedroom a average size living room, small kitchen. And a small laundry with one bathroom and a separate toilet room. As where house is on average basically over 18 square metres that has multiple living rooms anywhere from 3 to 5 bedrooms multiple toilets and bathrooms we call a house. In high rise buildings we call it apartments. And joint together single story buildings we call Flats or unit's too usually 1 to 2 bedrooms
@@Nathan-ry3yu The current knock down and rebuild will increase the number of apartments available to rent. Your proposal of units will take up more room and reduce the number of available rentals. Available land is 30 to 60 mins away from the CBD. Many families/people in the high risers don't want to move away from their area.
I'm from the US and the same things happen here and those people never move back and they get rid of everybody and they sell the apartment buildings with condos or S town homes and people pay mortgages on those things. At least that's what happens here but I think our country is one of the most evil when it comes to things like that
I'd imagine the Govt would find other accommodation while the build is being done. Even if they were toe renovate these buildings, the tenants would still need to find another place to live while it's being done.
How much will it cost to pull it down? And people living on top of eachother? Who are these public hosing for single 20 year olds with no kids? Theirs no way you get me to live in that with 3 kids

Even if these buildings were to be renovated, those people would need to be moved while they did it. So for everyone complaining, what's YOUR solution? Make more land available for house builds - that's at least 40 mins away from the CBD. These ppl in the high risers don't want to move away from their area. So how does that help them? These buildings either need to be renovated or knocked down - either way the tenants will be moving while it's done. I'd prefer a knock down where more units are built. Renovating these buildings won't create more tenancies. How do you propose that more housing is created within the CBD and surrounding areas that doesn't have vacant land to build?

Little bit? The lifts, air con and heating all need major over hauls. Even if they were to renovate, these tenants would still need to be moved out while they did it.

Good on ya Victoria for voting Labor yet again! What are you thinking down there?!?
What did Liberal do about this? These buildings have been run down and in need of repair for decades now.

Knocking down the old commie blocks to put up new commie blocks.

Your favorite park. Some of the benches have little shady roofs and keep the rain off, and apparently cardboard is recyclable.

You would think Comrade Dan would at least provide them with a couple of Tents.

If the towers are structurally sound they should be renovated
