The sleep gowns with elastic at the bottom are great for bedtime with a sleep sack/ swaddle over it. You don't have to worry about zippers or snaps in the middle of the night. We never used them during the day though.

Everyone told me this, but my baby would work them up to his waist every night and then cry because his legs were uncovered. I used zip up sleepers and they were so much easier!

ugh, my mom bought me like 30 of these and I HATED them. They always rode up and left my baby's feet and legs cold. I rage threw them out into a donation bag along with all the damn snap sleepers I was given.

Cut nails when they're sleeping, also do it with both of you facing the same way it'll be like you're cutting your own nails which is so much easier!

I bought the U shaped pregnancy pillow on Amazon, and I LOVE it. I decided to change my bed stuff, and thought, "What good is this pillow, I just use it to put between my legs, I can do that with a normal pillow." Slept 2 nights without it and I was miserable. Idk what it is about it, but everyone is different, and every pregnancy is different. I am 38 weeks pregnant now, so we are just playing the waiting game, so perfect timing for this! 😁 Love your videos! ❤

My daughter was born at 33 weeks - before my baby shower. I didn’t have ANYTHING for her so after my shower (she was in the NICU) most of my supplies was bought through amazon... and I think it was somewhat of a blessing because it made me realize how few things she actually needed. Love your videos!

I got a pregnancy pillow that’s basically like a long straight pillow and can see how it will come in handy later on as well. Already have a nursing pillow which I could not find usefull until my son started to sit up. Two weeks til baby sisters due date, wish me luck! 🥰

  • @Ranii1000

I think it's really important, as Kallie said, to remember we are all different and all babies are different. I loved a bassinet I was given for the first few months. I mainly used sleep and plays, we call them something different in Australia. But I also never had my milk come in so I stopped breast feeding after like a week and a bit because I couldn't. Look at advice but at the end of the day. You do you and what is best for you and your baby. But clips like this are helpful to see what is out there. particularly for your first baby when you don't know a lot.

  • @AnuschkavanDijke
    @AnuschkavanDijke 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I think your list aligns nicely with the advice to moms to be to not buy stuff ahead of time, thinking you need them. Wait, wait and wait some more. And don't purchase items until you actually need them for a good reason. There is so much stuff that I thought I'd need, based on advice from others, but when I got to that stage it turned out my baby had a different need or preference. So my best advice is to wait it out, and save yourself a lot of money. There's so much stuf available thru curbside pickups on Facebook marketplace, Bunz etc tat you hardly have to purchase new items and worry about delivery times.

Great list! I also agree with the sleep and plays and sleep gowns. The gowns seemed like such a good idea for quick and easy diaper changes, but we just didn’t use them. My son also lived in the zip up sleep and plays for the first 3-4 months! My biggest rec for new moms: don’t worry about actual clothes unless it’s for taking cute pics. Sleepers for the win! My son also loved his lounge pillow and it’s probably one of our most used items in the first 4 months (and I ended up not even breastfeeding, it was a straight up lounger/hang out spot!)

  • @mamarenewed

Aw I love sleep gowns!! I used them at night because it makes middle of the night changes so easy. No zips. No snaps. No buttons. I also used my manual pump a lot when traveling. Premixed formula is essential for preemies (if you’re formula feeding so it is useful depending on your baby) it minimize the risk of contamination since its sterile. Once their immune systems develop more you can switch to powder.

My LC told me not to use mittens while nursing, that baby feeling your boob with their hand was important to establishing the nursing relationship 🤷

I totally agree with a vast majority of these! We exclusively formula-fed from birth and actually loved having the pre-made, but just for those first 2 weeks where they're really not eating as much (bottles are totally not hard or time-consuming to make in any way but I just honestly didn't feel like doing it when our daughter was eating so little at that time haha). So we used them exclusively for the first 2 weeks or so and then switched to regular bottles from there. We're doing the same when baby #2 arrives :) Also, for the baby wrap, I too hated how time-consuming it was to deal with the wraps. I think I used our Moby wrap maybe 5-10 times if that. This time around, I bought one from Konny Baby and there's no wrapping needed! It's pre-sewn so you just slip it on and add your baby! I'm super excited to try it out.

Your insurance will cover an electric pump. No need to buy one. I do recommend buying the Haakaa silicone pump, especially for when your milk first comes in.

I definitely agree with the sleep and play outfits. Those were life savers and a lot of them come with the hand covers now! I have a boppy like you mentioned but my daughter hated being in it, even though we used them often in daycares that I worked in. She hated being restricted 🤷‍♀️ and as for the nail clipper, Frida makes THE BEST baby nail clipper. I've used them on my baby when she was 3 months and still do now that she's 16 months. I have NEVER clipped her nails. They're super safe so I've never needed to buy a nail filer. Thanks for this video! 💕

Thanks for this video! Everyone is so different. I loved my wrap and you are right it is hard to nurse in. Second baby now 3 months, I also bought a ring sling and still learning to use. I loved my manual pump and used it as my primary pump when I was away from baby at work because it was easy, effecient for me and less to clean. This time around I am using the Freemie hands free pump. I tried the Haaka both times and I didn’t like to use it while breastfeeding because I was afraid my baby would kick it off and I definitely wasn’t going to put it on in the middle of the night, so I said forget it. Also, the first time it was a bit painful to apply. I loved my pregnancy pillow first time and second pregnancy I tried it once and threw it to the floor where it still lies.

If you liked the feel of the wrap but not the hassle, I'd recommend a Baby K'Tan for your next kid. It wears like a wrap but so much easier and faster to put on. My husband loved wearing it too. I think it's the only one he really liked wearing actually.
We used the ring sling too a lot. I wore it a lot when baby was tiny, not so much for a few months when they get squirmy and then more frequently in the later part of the first year for short time. I didn't find it as stable for floppy newborn heads as the K'Tan and once my son turned 1 we tended to use the Ergo more

The Boppy is amazing!! So I actually registered for the My Breast Friend and the Boppy, and I really like both for different reasons. The My Breast Friend is really better for nursing and was a huge part of establishing nursing for me...it’s perfect for a newborn to spend a lot of time hanging out on. It attaches much closer to the body and is super flat so a newborn is comfortable and not falling in the gap between you and the pillow. The Boppy however is super multi functional and I currently use it for breast feeding, tummy time, and sitting practice.

I am pregnant with baby number 5 :) I have 4 boppy pillows. Got two with my first pregnancy, and two more the next time around. I leave one in the van, one in my room, one in the living room and the other usually gets carted around by the other children! I would suggest at least two if you have a two level home.... also when baby spits up, one goes in the wash and you have an automatic backup, also a couple extra covers for them.... boppy pillows for life. I sometimes even sleep with one as my own personal pillow....

The right pregnancy pillow matters. I bought one on Amazon (tossed it) because it was useless and I think I was allergic to the material. I bought the "Leachco Back N Belly on my own contoured body pillow" from buy buy baby... wow. Game changer. It's huge tho so just FYI. But it's been amazing and I love it. It's helped me squeeze more hours out of my nighttime sleep. Maternity pillows are not for everyone, but I do recommend them. Figure out what kind of support you need first then make the investment. Good luck 😊

I also got blood the first time I used the baby clippers. My toddler still hates getting her nails cut. Yes sleep and plays! I have a super great milk supply the second time around and would still recommend an electronic pump. Most health insurances will cover one or maybe two options for an electronic one, talk to your agent. Our pre-mixing was to put the dry formula in a bottle, and have a bottle with water measured in. Boppy's are amazing, but be careful which ones you get. Look for the ones that have a washable slip cover, and are firm enough for baby to use on their own. We were gifted a diaper genie, and we don't dislike it, but a good trash can with a hinged lid would work just as well (and better if you have back issues and can't get underneath the diaper genie to get the bag out). My baby boy is almost too big for his swing and I'm starting to panic because he loves it.

I wasn’t able to breastfeed both times, but the boppy is a great investment and we are currently using it to help my baby learn how to sit. The first time around I bought a huge pregnancy pillow, but the second time I bought this small whale shaped one that goes in between your legs and I’m pretty sure it prevented some leg cramps so actually I think the smaller pregnancy pillows are better.

With #2 we decided to go with a sustainable baby co moonwomb pillow (that I’ve used as a regular pillow while trying to conceive and loved) it’s filled with buckwheat hulls and I love it even more than my boppy but it is an investment for sure but a good other option if you’re wanting something more natural.
Thanks for this video a nice reminder to moms who are swayed by all the baby stuff when really it’s not all needed

My pedi taught me how to use nail clippers, haven't drawn blood yet. I have twins and they're 6 now. I'm glad I didn't invest too much in breastfeeding because I dried up even after triple feeding. I wasn't sleeping as much as I should have doing that. The premade stuff helped early on when we were on the go. Once they started eating more we would have containersof the powder and a bottle or two of water.

Totally totally agree with the sleep n play tip! I can't tell you how irritated I would get fumbling with snaps in the middle of the night. Get off by one and get ready to scream silently!!! Lol!! Your son....adorable!!! I have a teen now......ahhhhh!! Just one, a daughter who is 13. Time flies

An electric nail file. My, my, how things change. When my babies were tiny, I bit their nails off while they were asleep in my arms. I learned this trick from an old nurse. I considered buying a wipe warmer, but then my aunt suggested I try warming the wipe in between my hands for few seconds, which worked quite well. My son was, and still is, very sensitive to tactile sensation. So, only natural fiber clothing and bedding, no scratchy tags, etc. He most definitely appreciated a warm wipe. Lastly, for babies who hate diaper changes, try placing a small toy in their hands, one that they only get to play with during changing time. A small stuffed animal works well for really little ones, a more interesting toy can be offered later. Another mom I know used something that flashed light patterns on the ceiling. It wasn't a baby item per se, but she used it as one. Btw, your son is adorable. ~ Lisa

I loved the gowns in the beginning when there were a lot of diaper changes overnight. My daughter slept in those and then I put her in pants and onesies during the day. But once the overnight changes/feedings slowed down, I stopped using them...I would say this was good for about 2-3 months.

Pregnancy insomnia, I have randomly been waking up in the night and it takes me a good two hours to go back to sleep. Good to know it’s normal.

Omg I also cut a little my baby’s finger trying to cut her nails. My husband was so mad at me!!! Crazy moment. I used it again a year after that and then the nail clipper worked once her fingers grew.

I had a very similar breastfeeding experience! My daughter had what the nurses called “an uncoordinated latch.” We finger fed her with a syringe of formula for weeks until she could latch onto me, then she would essentially practice and get a bottle of pumped milk afterward. I was pumping 12 times a day for 6 weeks and my lactation consultant was like omg you don’t have to pump after every time anymore! I ended up donating over 200 ounces of breastmilk and she successfully breastfed for 5 months! A manual pump never would’ve done the job for me but I also loved my haaka!

I totally agree with the sleep and plays. My husband bought so many new born to first year outfits and shoes....shoes! and I'm over here like hello, are you dressing the baby..no. I need something more convenient and easy🤦🏽‍♀️

I also used my Boppy to sit on when I was post partum with episiotomy stitches and had to sit on metal chairs-- or any chair that wasn't my couch. It was a game changer. I was able to get back to life so much faster.

Omg pregnancy pillow was essential for me. Sleep gowns were great when my babies were little due to the numerous diaper changes. But I agree, as they're bolder and go into devices like swings, you have to change. But my son lives in sleep n plays for his first two months.

With my first i had a Medela electric pump with a rechargeable battery. I think it was the symphony. It was awesome because you had the best of both worlds...portable and more efficient than a manual pump.
I always found hand pumping (basically milking like a cow) more effective than my manual pump and I had a very good supply.

I only bought the manual breast pump when I forgot to take my regular breast pump to work... Target was closer than my house. That was the only time I used it. 😅 Also, YES to a BOPPY! So useful!! I kept mine and now it's time to use it for Baby #2 ♥

A pumping bra to hold the flanges in place are another must have! It’s so nice to not have to hold the flanges in place the entire time. Plus, it frees your hands up to massage your breasts as you’re pumping. I have to massage every feeding as my letdown is not so great.
Also, if you don’t like the pregnancy pillows then regular body pillows are pretty great too. I used one before I got pregnant and in my last trimester with my second child it was very hard to sleep without it. I tried a c pillow that was given to me, but the shape and bulkiness of the pillow made it hard to sleep with too. However, after she was born I was given a different pregnancy pillow that was U shaped and I’m using it almost 2 months PP. It’s easier to sleep with and is great for night feedings in bed.

There are tshirt style wrap carriers. They work up until 4-6 months depending on the brand. BabyDink is an Australian kickstarter, actually cheap to invest in if you're overseas too. You pop it on like a tshirt and just pop baby in. Just have to make sure you order the right size for your post partum body not your pregnancy size. For most women one size up from your pre-pregnancy size is pretty standard to allow for extra room for breastfeeding boobies.

I was gifted a Boppy pregnancy pillow when I was pregnant. I absolutely love it. I like the pregnancy pillow better than the actual boppy itself!
Favorite baby purchase: (forget what exactly it's called) it's like a little hammock you attach to the sides of the baby's crib- she slept comfortably in an almost womb like position in her crib and we didn't even need a bassinet of any sort. was roughly $20 on Amazon.
Least favorite baby purchase: certain diapers. store brands are not so great and I hated the cruisers 360. we used Swaddlers exclusively til we hit size 3 and now are using Luvs.

So funny our differences! The only thing that was a lifesaver for me was the Medela pump and I used a Hakkaa pump on the other. I was working full time and had to pump, then my daughter went on a nursing strike so she just nurses in the morning. Then it’s a manual pump for the rest of the day!

Items I didn’t use: baby wrap, premix formula and pregnancy pillow.
If onesie didn’t have mittens I would honestly use socks. I was at home so no judgement. The Baby mittens would get lost or I only ended with one.... so not good.
Items I did use: sleep gown only owned 3-5 and did use them until 6 months and didn’t go anywhere or I would use pants if I went somewhere in the drive thru. Baby nail clippers use them until this day.... I wait until she is asleep- no pressure there. I used a Bobby when I was pregnant and used it for my baby!!!!! Best item ever! Okay on the manual breast pump that was the bomb 💣 I would use a breast shield on the other to get more milk and one side to another quick fast.... then wash it with the médela spray and would store it in a cool baggie I had...... my baby was only breast feed..... I supplied a lot of milk but again drinker a lot of water, tea.... or would take hot water showers and then pumped.....
Hope my opinion helps others too....

I love sleep sacks and so does my kiddo. She slept through the night at 3 months and I swear it was the sleep sacks. She is a nosy Parker so containing her a little keeps her from just playing with her feet all night.

I think I’m the only mom that can’t stand having a newborn/baby in sleep n plays all day everyday... I actually dress my baby(ies) everyday into a onesie, pants, socks. AND I LOVE hand pumps over electric. And that specific pump does not need to be pumped consistently. The handle can be held down and it just keeps streaming the milk out. Also, I love it when we’re out on dates and I just pump in the car very quickly.

11:19 Made my day. I loved the Halo Sleepsack swaddles. I got one free from the hospital with most of mine and I even brought some. Completely worth the 20+ dollars. I gave all mine to my 1st grandbaby but she didn't up using them most cause she would get too warm. SwaddleMe makes something similar with lighter material.

I disagree about the gowns. I put my son in gowns still at 6 months. They are best for nighttime diaper changes. You don't have to mess with zippers or snaps. Plus if you don't want to change your baby from a gown to an outfit from bedtime to running out and about, Carter's makes a gown that snaps into a footie.

Personally I didn't like the sling and wish I had gotten a traditional wrap sooner than I did. The sling hurt my back and it was super tedious to position my baby in it right. If I could go back I'd get one of those wraps that are like halfway done already like the baby k'tan ready to wear wrap.
