Honeysuckle played a sensitive, intelligent and loyal person. She and Michael Kitchen were superb in 'Foyle's War.' Quite rightly it is now a television classic to be watched again and again.
Johnny Mac I absolutely agree. I love the series and have watched it again and again and never tire of it. I love the contrast between Sam and Foyle - the exuberant, fun-loving, Tigger-like character as opposed to the understated, cerebral, straight man - a man of few words, whose facial expressions speak volumes. Absolutely superb. (I’ve always loved Michael Kitchen anyway!)
By far the best detective series on television. Michael Kitchen, what an actor. The way Foyle conducts himself, impeccable. Honeysuckle Weeks and all the cast, superb. 11 out of 10
I fell head over heels in love with Honeysuckle's Foyle's War character. Being a war baby, and growing up in the mid-to-late forties, I can tell you that the characterisation is 100 percent amazing and perfect. My wife still watches all the repeats - over and over again. A brilliant show. A brilliant cast.
Sam deserves a medal for her service to the country foyle or military should have recommended her service to the country would have made a good ending .
That cast played a story of my parent's time. The moment in history when their lives were central to the world's great play. I watched it riveted by the characters, their lives, and the world they inhabited. The danger, the society, the expectations of men and women, suddenly their lives made sense to me, why they became the parents they were, and why I am tied to that moment in world history. Thank you, Honeysuckle Weeks, thank you all.
Kitchen and Weeks were dream casting. Neither was showy or hysterical. They just inhabited their parts so well. There was none of that look at me thing with them and it was so refreshing.
Foyle's War was such a wonderfully put together production. I liked the plots, characters & pace of it all. And this young woman was an important part of it all.
Thank you, Honeysuckle, for playing your role so beautifully and consistently for so long. A perfect foil to Foyle himself. And we are all sad that the series had to end, but it was like all such things. A time came for it to end. But we have all the episodes recorded and, if the human race doesn't destroy itself by one of it's many failings, Foyle's War will continue to be with us for many decades to come. Once again thank you, sweet Honeysuckle!
Michael Kitchen is peerless in the role of Christopher Foyle. If you love great acting, and you haven't seen him in this series, sort yourself out and see it straight away.
Beeing from Finland. As a Finn speaking English close to good. I must really say that Foyles War is without doubt one of the best series ive ever seen. And Sam I would marry immedeately. Of course i know and i recognize that its only a TV series. The world need more women like her
Unlikely as Michael Kitchen is now getting on a bit as we all are. Foyle's War should have continued but alas it didn't due to some idiotic decisions at ITV to end it.
@Mike Lloyd And this was why each episode was so good and ITV are still making money repeating them so many years on. I bet they are now wishing they had continued.
I think Foyle’s War is the best show ever on TV I’ve watched the entire series at-least thrice, some episodes more. Miss Weeks is so talented and lovely. It seems that the role of Samantha Stewart was cast for her. I cannot imagine anyone else. She is exquisite from the first episode and the final.
There is great television and then there is "Foyle's War" which is in a stratosphere all by itself. It is beyond comparing because nothing comes close to it.
Foyle's war is one of the best series ever produced, in my view. I recently had an opportunity to acquire the DVDs for the first six seasons and have been watching them again with great enjoyment. The writing, how the plots were developed and came together at the end of each film is unsurpassed. Well done all!
I finished up watching "Foyle's War" via Netflix. As we know, the show's episodes were, essentially, feature films. I can only imagine that the cost of the show was great. Certainly the fans did not lose interest. I thoroughly enjoyed the acting of Honeysuckle, and I look forward to more acting from this, not only great actor, but, clearly, good human being.
Not really a good comparison. Poirot comes across as a right self opinionated prat. Foyle’s War comes across as the real thing. All of the cast were authentic, such as I bought the series.
I shall never forgive the program director who cancelled this series because he wanted to appeal to a younger audience. He should be referred to the Haig for crimes against humanity!!

What a lovely interview. It was a joy to hear Honeysuckle Weeks giving her perspective on “Foyle’s War,” and also to see her looking so well - latterly in the series I thought she was looking very thin and gaunt and not at all well. She played the character of Sam superbly well and was an absolute delight throughout. “Foyle’s War” has to be one of my favourite TV series of all time.
I have seen Honeysuckle in other BBC shows. She was a teen in some of them! She has always brought a maturity and professionalism to all the performances that I have seen. They certainly deserved Emmys!

Honeysuckle Weeks stood out in Goggle Eyes in 93. So many excellent elements in Foyle's War, but it wouldn't have been the same without her Sam. Enjoyed this.
Marvelous actress, and no one can match Michael Kitchen's facial expressions and cynical eye. Just the very best series ever. I am going for the complete DVD set.
I love Foyle's War, during this July 2020 lockdown, I'm actually again watching Foyle's War. I have the whole series. I also loved now seeing Honeysuckle Weeks in this interview, and everything about her, the way she speaks, her enthusiasm about life and her animated way of expressing herself, IS Sam. To me she will always BE Sam. Such a bonus finding this video now during a teabreak, between episodes!🤩
Foyles War was a series that relates to everyone's life in some way and was the series that both my wife and I looked forward to watching. Well written and acted, every facial expression of Foyle, Sam and Milner set so much tone in the acting. even the somewhat comical desk officer added so much to the entertainment. While other English series, including Downton Abbey are entertaining, we didn't wait with baited breath for the next episode, like Foyles War. We hope it will re-emerge soon.
I think you underrate Downton Abbey, which had its suspenseful periods. But I know what you mean. Here the suspense didn't depend on the chronology but on the quality.
I think Honeysuckle Weeks made this show. Michael Kitchen did a great job as DCS Foyle but I always watched it mainly to admire Honeysuckle as Sam Stewart, his driver. She was so attractive, lady like but down to earth, intelligent, and with a delightful way of expressing herself. Her smile was so endearing.
Ted Tedster What have her breasts to do w her character or characterisation? Not a core member making up the acting triumvirate in the pre-Cold War episodes? And still managing to be strong in the latter period, w a host of older, more experienced actors? She held her own & most convincingly. I would not, ofc, place her before Michael Kitchen in importance to the series, but let us not let personal (sexual) taste supersede critical judgement.
Loved her as Sam in Foyle's War . Hope there will be a following up .... This is one of the best series I have ever seen . The details in the series were so accurate , amazing good actors , the acting was so perfect , the stories so good ....
Without Honeysuckle and Michael Foyle's War would not have succeeded, I'm very sure of it. And the series is so, so important. It's history, that we should not forget ever. We must tell it to the young generations, who are living in a totally different world. Have we learned something, I wonder. Thank you. Hope that all these comments are the most important prize
I always enjoyed your character in Foyles War. It's your persona, the nuance in speaking. You are just a fine person and I love to watch you act. Recently, I say you in a fairly new film. You played an addicted daughter, but it was so nice to see you and to know you are still acting. Best wishes.
Best 'tec on the telly. Lost count how many times I've watched each episode. The extraordinary thing is the constant improvement in the development of the characters, the quality of the writing, and of the acting and the actors themselves many of whom have gone on to even bigger things. Christopher Foyle is a character to be admired, dare I say worthy of the term "role model"? Sam is the perfect foil for him, wonderfully portrayed by Honeysuckle.
Haha. Just met honeysuckle in petworth park, petworth. I found her phone on the way in and thankfully saw a women looking in her car, so I shouted " have you lost your phone" she was very grateful. I recognized her as a great actor but as my memory is not to good i couldn't remember what she was in. I was racking my brain until she left the park and walked by us. I just had to ask. Foyle's War she said. She thanked me again and said acting had given up on her. I do hope not as she is a great actor. Best wishes honeysuckle. Sweet name ❤
Janette Johns Oh that’s a shame she said that. But she hasn’t been in anything for a good while, that’s true. Actors seem to go through phases where they are in everything and then they just disappear and a new bunch becomes prominent...
What a wonderful character and HW didn't make it sugar sweet but gave her a humanity which was really endearing. All the main charcters just gelled and it will live on as an deserved classic.
What a wonderful t.v. series.Fantastic cast, well written, great family values, something not around anymore. So sad it has to end.I have seen Honeysuckle in a lot of shows and she is a great actress.
Honeysuckle Weeks is the consummate professional, able to take a character and make her come to life. Granted the scripts were phenomenal, but it takes skill and feeling to bring the words to life. That, to me, is the real secret of the show. The characters felt real, and it turns out they often were, and the genius of the casting created an environment on set that positively glows. I worked 20 years in film. I got to be able to tell by the end of the second day whether a production would work or not based on the chemistry of the entire crew. Generally a happy crew makes for good watching. Add exceedingly excellent cast and writing, the show could not miss.
I fell in love with Foyle's War and I'm very sad that it ended... I missed Sam Stewart very much and her affair with Andrew. I missed Christopher Foyle so much, too...my hero. I wish & pray they will come up again for us , the viewers and fans 🙏⚘
Not much I can add to the comments below. "Foyle's War" was an exceptional show. I have watched all episodes more than once, and many episodes numerous times. It never grows stale. And yes, I too, along with millions of others I'm sure, fell in love with Honeysuckle Weeks.
A great TV series, well written with superb acting by both Honeysuckle and Michael. It ranks with Poirot, and Downton Abbey for the retelling of the stories, no not repeats that only to lesser TV shows. Such a pity that there is a distinct lack of top quality shows nowadays.
It would be terrific to see more of Foyle's War, or, indeed, some kind of continuation of Sam's life, herself, as such a rich and interesting character...great interview, and I wish Ms. Weeks a full and happy life, in whatever roles she lives!
Foyle's War is one of the very best series ever made. The acting is superb, especially Michael Kitchen. I must confess that it seems strange to see Daniel Weyman (Adam Wainwright in series 7 and 8) on the TV: he used to be a student of mine many years ago (and a very good one).
H. Weeks: Well done ! The character was brilliant, good enough as though someone actually from that era stepped through a time machine. Highest praise for the series as a whole, the sets, realistic, cultural attitudes, Foyle's frustration with his job and Weeks' subsequent marriage to an MP. What made it perfect were the numerous subplots and, best of all, the portrayal of the espionage activities, realistic disparagement of the SOE by MI-5 and the era archetypes such as "Tin Eye" or the head of the Russia House. Great Stuff, wish there were more.
Just love the series w/ Michael Kitchen and Honeysuckle Weeks… These two are such a joy to watch: they live their roles! Love them! Will glue my eyes to any “repeat” and “sequels”! 😍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Namaste from India. Thanks to streaming we are able to see such a wonderful show of emotions, hope, optimism, family and friendships. Thank you to the creators and actors. Thank you. Sad it needed 😢. Wish they were more. SAM could continue her life to the 70s..
Foyle's War was a great ensemble production. There were lots of fantastic guest support actors who added to the quality without scene stealing. Honeysuckle proved perfect for the part of Sam.
Foyles War and Endeavour - the two best programmes, indeed the only two really worthwhile series of the last 20 years. An absolute crime the series ended
Foyle's war,,, one of the best TV dramas ever...I have been binge-watching every episode here on TH-cam. Hastings what a wonderful place to live. Like going back in time to the second world war. Why can't they find the money for ITV to make another series...

She embodied the fresh, not naive, dedicated lass of the time. Like Princess Elizabeth who became a mechanic before becoming sovereign.
"Foyle's War" is one of the best of television.

Evvery episode was produced better than 98% of the movies today! Loved her character!
Shes lovely , would like to see more of her on the box .
I love Foyle’s War because of Honeysuckle and Michael! Amazing!❤
She proved a perfect foil to Foyle.
This is a classic, you can watch over and over, favorite episodes over and over, a great show, it seemed real that time and place.
My favorite series of all time, and Sam was at the top. I hope there is more
I cant even compare any other series as good as this one was. The combination of the characters was really good and the stories were so interesting.
Foyles War and Endeavour - the two best programmes, indeed the only two really worthwhile series of the last 20 years. An absolute crime the series ended
I couldn't help but fall in love with Sam right from the very start....Honeysuckle has a beautiful heart
Wonderful series, story line and great acting.
Foyle's war,,, one of the best TV dramas ever...I have been binge-watching every episode here on TH-cam.
Hastings what a wonderful place to live.
Like going back in time to the second world war.
Why can't they find the money for ITV to make another series...
I love Foyle’s War the characters were great and felt very real.
