Feels just like when James came to our church about a month ago. Following these steps really helped our team create a much cleaner and more consistent mix each week! Thanks James. Thanks for all you do for the kingdom of God!!!
Awesome series, would have saved me a lot of time with our SQ6 years ago, thanks for making a great resource! Will be helpful for some of our new techs. One thing that many struggle with is changing group dynamics week to week... our singers rotate a lot and we often don't have the best track record for mic checks. Dave Rat's group compression method has helped us control the balance of vocals to instruments (etc) and allow us to help a single vocal cut through the mix while controlling overall blend and loudness when needed (and its easier for volunteers to do on the fly). For reference we run electric drums, keys or grand piano, bass, acoustic, and generally 4-6 vocals. The vocal style is more of a blend vs a lead singer and background singers since they change up who sings lead throughout the song. Would love to hear your take on this mixing strategy, strengths, weaknesses, and how it can help ministries who are not as well rehearsed as others. (I realize the glaring problem and simple solution, but sometimes we cant change people and need to work with what we have been given and still want to produce the best result possible)
This particular recording was done with Reaper off a SSL L200 via Dante straight off the preamps, but there are ways to do virtual sound check with the SQ Seriesl.
Hi James, we enjoyed your video. They are very informative and entertaining. My question is what system should we get for our church. We’re small church and our budget is around $10,000.00. Our decision comes down to allen&heath q5 or presonus studiolive. Thank you for your time.
Instead of inverting the polarity of drum mics is better to use the DELAY function as you can even measure correctly the distances between mics and align them in time/phase

A&H SQ excellent digital consoles 💯👌
Thank you Sir James
You're very welcome!
how do you get that dotted dynamic line on the eq?
Turn on the RTA on the EQ. It was a firmware update in 2020
Hi James, great content as always!
how did you record the live band? Can you please share me how? DAW and set-up.
I believe there is a multi-track recorder in the SQ wich you can load-in afterwards. (not a 100% sure tho!)

Man make your own video instead of crapping on someone else’s with your patronising comments.
Yeah I made a video on that too :) But we're keeping it simple here
