My favorite joke in the movie is Lewis asking what Cornelius looks like, and Wilbur tells him that he looks like Tom Selleck, to which a real photo of Tom Selleck is used for that point on to represent Cornelius for the rest of the scene. And then, at the end, when we meet Cornelius, he's voiced by Tom Selleck. That is a friggin 4D Chess joke right there.

this movie meant the world to me as a neurodivergent child (who didn't know she was neurodivergent) because the robinsons don't act like "normal" (neurotypical) people. they embrace their interests and abnormal traits with full love and are encouraged to by everyone around them. it felt like home to me.

I always thought the ending was that future Cornelius knows that he still needs to invent the hats so his past self can still have the time travel experiance he needs, so he programmed DORIS to self destruct when she heard young Louis say "I am never going to invent you." the disintergration and the blue flame was from an incredibly hot but controlled detination spark. I do like that theory. Do you maybe have a theory for why Goob is still after him in the future if he didn’t lose the game. The only thing I can think of is maybe Future Louis somehow stopped his kid self from getting to the game or something

    • @LokiStarOmen
      @LokiStarOmen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +62

@@maem7462 My thoughts were maybe at one point Goob had traveled there and intended harm but after fixing goobs lost game and the memory scanner he realised the events still needed to happen or else there’d be a paradox and the world would end again. Because both timelines have presented themselves and have definitely existed at one point they are essentially alternative worlds that his life connected together. Maybe he invented the time travel machine to make sure he made the right choice. He could have decided to use it to see if after saving him from loosing the game Goob would have gotten adopted, if he’d be a successful baseball player, and what would happen in the future if Louis never had the experience in the future that he should have. What if it turned out Goob never got better and still turned out to have a crappy life and because Louis never time traveled to the future with Wilbur the future world ended up a hellscape without even creating Doris? It seems like a stretch but if you think about how Goob was, it wasn’t because he lost one ball game, and all the amazing tech in the movie was invited by Louis but only because his trip to the future encouraged him not to give up. So even though it looked like Goob’s life was fixed with one ball catch people are more complicated than that and he still ended up a miserable dude. So Louis was convinced the right thing to do was sabotage another one of Goobs games and have Doris point him in the right direction for the events of the movie to happen. It also makes sense because Goob in the future never mentions which game exactly he was referring to so it could have been a couple years later down the line than we saw take place in the movie. This is definitely one of my less thought out theories and it depends on a lot of what ifs but it’s just as likely as everything else that happened in the movie

This film really emotionally got to me for a number of reasons. The fact Louis decides he doesn’t need to see his birth mother after everything touched me in a way I didn’t expect, we don’t know why she did it just like Louis, but he accepted that one day he would have a loving family. Maybe cheesy but the fact he made that decision himself like that just got to me. And then, just, the ending song with Louis being adopted...gah, it’s a feel good film with the actual mature themes about family that I like. None of the characters are without faults, families can be weird and all over the place but can work together really well.

I think there was also another lesson in believing in yourself and in your passion. Every family member has one passion that drives their whole personality, and the family loves each other so much because of how passionate they are for their niches. They accept each other and help each other flourish no matter what they want to do is.
Artist, Scientist, Mechanic, a Home Maker, Inventor, Actor, Pizza Delivery Guy. It doesn't matter, if you love it, you should do it no matter how weird or eccentric it might seem. If you believe in yourself enough and are passionate you will succeed, and with your family with you along the way you may just find happiness.

I'm very mixed about this film. On the whole it's a good laugh with a simple lesson, but there are parts of the lesson that don't sit well with me. I think it comes from the liberal idea of as long as you make *good life choices* you can make it and succeed at your goals. As a cynical adult with an understanding that systems outside of your actions can bring disaster the lesson rings a little hollow to me. Perhaps if the movie was striven in it's keep moving forward in more than it's individual personal responsibility and in a community perspective to make sure no one would have to go through what Goo did and being willing to provide emotion support to anyone you need (not just friends) then maybe I could enjoy it more. Anyways the video was great and I found this perspective neat!

Yeah I can understand why you'd see it that way. Personally, I always saw the "success" aspect of the film not so much being that Lewis revolutionizes the world with his inventions, it's that he finds a family that loves him for who he truly is, which is what he actually wanted, and if he had given up then he wouldn't have met Lucille and Bud and gotten the family he dreamed of. His inventing skills are what lead him to the family happiness he desired, and personally I think he would have been just as happy in the future if he wasn't a wildly successful inventor, but hey maybe I'm just an idealist or a romantic 🤷‍♀️

My favorite line in that movie was when Goob was walking down the hallway and people were like "Hey dude!", "Nice binder!" and "Wanna hang out later?" and he said "They all hated me" I just,,, love that. That's my type of humor, apparently.

this movie is fantastic and I genuinely forgot it was a Disney movie because it seemed like those underrated Pixar movies but god yes it's such a feel-good movie. the concept of being able to accept failure and not let it consume me with feelings of guilt and inadequacy so I can move forward is a topic I've been wrestling with for most of my life.
the T-rex was one of my favorite, most memorable moment.

I had 2 movies on my iPod as a kid. Meet the Robinsons and Stardust. And you bet I watched both movies everytime I was on a long car ride on that tiny screen. I also have vague memories of playing the meet the robinsons video game and it was playable to a point and had some vague lore.... I think.

I remember i was in a very low emotional point of my life in 2019 because of a lot of things that had happened that year and one time i just decided to watch tv and relax to clear my mind, this movie was airing so i watched it and it hit me in a very strong, personal way, almost as a revelation. "keep moving forward" now im very much happier. Im forever thankful to this movie for re-teaching me the most important lesson i always forget, thanks meet the robinsons

What's funny about Lewis' mother is that she probably wasn't all she was cracked up to be anyways if she'd abandon him to being an orphan.
I doubt she'd even want anything to do with him, grown up or not.

It was the first thing that made me feel like things could still be okay, even though he would be gone. It still makes me cry to watch it today. Thanks for your video, it's interesting to see what people who were kids when it came out thought!

  • @skyhideaway

This movie was really underrated, I rarely see anyone talking about it. The humor was pretty good, the message of "keep moving forward" is a lot more realistic than the usual "believe in your dreams" or "keep smiling". But the thing that satisfies me in any media is when a story manages to tie up any loose ends neatly by the end of the movie, and Meet The Robinsons did just that. The scene where Lewis goes to see his mother was so beautiful and the reason why she hears something (Lewis tripping) and quickly hurries away was such a nice detail.

I remember never getting to watch this movie as a kid when it came out in cinema as somehow the screen was flooded and so instead we were given the option to watch one of the other films airing at that time so myself and my dad (animation lovers through and through) watched bridge to terabithia and wishing we were watching Meet the robinsons instead. I did end up watching it once when it showed on tv on one of those film channels but it would never be the same as watching it as a kid in the cinema with the big screen.

I love this movie so much. It gives me such an intense feeling of both nostalgia, and longing for a future I don't even know. Which seems very fitting for a time travel movie. Almost always makes me cry during that end scene with the song.
My friend was saying how the ending was sad for her, but I honestly don't see it that way. It seems very hopeful. Yes, he had to leave and will miss them, but at the end of the day, they're HIS family, and he'll see them again. He's one of, if not the only, people on Earth to have seen exactly what his future will look like, and as long as he stays on the right track (which he will, or someone's coming back to fix it) he knows he has such a wonderful life and family waiting for him. They'll be there, he's just gotta work for it. What I wouldn't do for that kind of security.

When I was a kid and I first saw Meet The Robinsons I would re-watch the movie every single night before I went to bed. I never really knew why until I got older and realize it was my comfort movie. It had a weird family that embraced they’re weirdness instead of shunned it. As a weird kid that was treated like an outcast for being weird and never understood what a family is supposed to feel like... Meet The Robinsons speaks to me more then any other form of media.
