Definitely reminds me of mixed feelings, the drunken state, the loves lost, the loves gained, friendships made, the staff trying to get us all to leave. Good and bad. Thank you.
This is a great song. I was in a rock cover band and we used to close with this song. I got to play the keyboard part. It was one of my favorite songs we did.
Last song we played last day at the store we worked at. After we left a hour or so later it was permanently closed. I felt it appropriate after my 16 years of service.
Wow, this guy has a fantastic voice and flawless rhythm. I always liked this song, but the record version was always too loud for me and I wanted an "acoustic" version. This version did not disappoint. It's literally perfect. Dan Wilson has some serious talent.
Many years ago ... like bartenders across the country I remember countless times hearing "closing time, last call for alcohol". Aahh, to be 23 again, and tending bar at the Oaks college hangout in Bloomington, Indiana.
In the 70s I took my then girlfriend to see an artist by the name of Michael Murphy who had a hit by the title of "Wildfire" which he refused to play in a small venue in Atlanta (The Great Southeast Music Hall) and it really ruined the evening for me since it put her in a really bad mood. My only gratification was the beer I bought on a fake ID. Thank you Michael Murphy for nothing and thank you Dan for playing "Closing Time"
this is one of my favorite songs in the world and showing it with so muche simplicity did not affect the love i have for it... thank for the rest of my days, Dan Wilson. I mean it.
I love how he wrote this song in twenty-five minute. I have some songs I've wrote that took me 10 minutes to think up and I love playing them. this is a song I learned and it doesn't matter if I'm closing a gig or finishing up a session playin on the street I always love finishing up with this song! its definitely one that doesn't get stale.
After a stressful day of working as an IT professional, I set Closing Time as my alarm tone and when i here that playing it relieve my stress and call it a day.
*Lol... IT professional. You haven't done a hard days work in your life. I've had harder days than you have in decades. Sitting on your arse in front of a computer. Do you realize how much of a Simp you sound like ?.. It's pathetic. Get a real job.*
I love this song, even though I was born on the year of 2005, I'm glad that I have a thing for music before my time, I just wish semisonic got famous then. P.S. Loved" Singing In my sleep" too
Wow, I just found this vid. It has captured the complete feel of the original tune. I has everything we always loved about the story and song. Thanks so much!
Incredibly humble guy. Talent off the chart. He wrote “Someone Like You”’ (and others) with Adele! And songs for/with Taylor Swift, Jason Mraz, John Legend, JoJo, Stevie Nicks, Gavin DeGraw, Panic At The Disco!, Weezer, HRry Connick Jr, Chris Stapleton, Florence + the Machine, Leon Bridges, Vance Joy, Lukas Graham, Noah Cyrus, just to name a few. One of the most prolific songwriters of our time!
Dan Wilson é um dos melhores músicos e compositor que eu já ouvi. Suas musicas irão ficar pra sempre comigo.. o cara é um gênio e passa isso pro papel e ´pro violão.. Dan, você é foda
Closing time, open all the doors And let you out into the world Closing time, turn all of the lights on Over every boy and every girl Closing time, one last call for alcohol So, finish your whiskey or beer Closing time, you don't have to go home But you can't stay here I know who I want to take me home I know who I want to take me home I know who I want to take me home Take me home Closing time, time for you to go out To the places you will be from Closing time, this room won't be open Till your brothers or your sisters come So, gather up your jackets, move it to the exits I hope you have found a friend Closing time, every new beginning Comes from some other beginning's end, yeah I know who I want to take me home I know who I want to take me home I know who I want to take me home Take me home Closing time, time for you to go out To the places you will be from I know who I want to take me home I know who I want to take me home I know who I want to take me home Take me home I know who I want to take me home I know who I want to take me home I know who I want to take me home Take me home Closing time, every new beginning Comes from some other beginning's end
Mr Wilson, there is my doughter ( 3 year old) that is your big fun! Every evening she listen closing time! We live in Italy, if you pass the summer/ Spring holiday in Italy ,you will Meet my doughter… I wait your answer. Thank you very much
Dan is an amazing tunesmith, he also co-wrote “Ours” with Sam Endicott from The Bravery and it’s one of the catchiest songs of the last decade: th-cam.com/video/Xkyw8AAFGwI/w-d-xo.html
I browsed through a bunch of comments and didn’t see any about the real meaning of the song. This song has a double meaning and if you didn’t know the other side of the story check out this version: th-cam.com/video/niz9FtJIB2Y/w-d-xo.html
His beginning monologue is perfect. I'm glad it was filmed.
Yes!
So profound too!
Closing Time - fantastic in every line
Remember my dear friend, who sadly died of cancer last year, loved this song
Miss you Karen
❤
What a humble guy....and an excellent song writer.
His modesty when talking about the song makes it even better. A true masterpiece. Thanks, Dan
Definitely reminds me of mixed feelings, the drunken state, the loves lost, the loves gained, friendships made, the staff trying to get us all to leave. Good and bad. Thank you.
His voice is the perfect balance of rasp and silk. Amazing version. Sad I will never be this good tho lol
I know what you mean - but you never know!
semisonic was the most underrated thing ever
There should be more people in general like Dan Wilson, let alone musicians.
I just love this guys outlook on his song. I hate when musicians don’t play certain songs that fans love so I think this is the right perspective.
This is one of the greatest songs of my generation
a song about birth, death, and everything in between...a subtle masterpiece
Guy is a genius coming up with a song that is perfect for bar closings. You deserve Emails from strangers like that because you are a genius.

Pure talent! "Every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end" simple but true what a lyrical genius

Oh yeah. So appropriate, regardless of the scenario. Its fitting for the end. But hopefully opens a new beginning!
This guy brings me so many positive feels.

I'm 37. I share this with my 12 year old daughter. Thank you (even though I know the artist isn't reading this shit)

Great song! I love that he is grateful for his hit, and still loves to play it for everyone. He sounds awesome!!
What an honour to produce something that has made it so strongly into the zeitgeist. I think he recognises that.
