The best thing about Nico is that he realizes it's a team sport, what I see is he has done set a new standard of play for himself and everyone around him.
Defense came together after the first quarter and played like a top 5 team. If they can keep out the long plays this season to a minimum as they've failed to do in the past (3rd down long bombs), no one will beat them. My observation any way following Tennessee for 50+ years.
Nico's second interception was on the offensive line. They broke down. Nico should have taken the sack, but he still tried to throw it. That is what a freshman quarterback will try to do. It was still a blowout though!
Dylan Sampson putting on 15 and not losing a step is not talked about enough. The knock on him last year was that he wasn’t big enough to carry the load. Sampson at 200 pounds instead of 180 is unfair
I've been saying this for 2 years. Dylan Sampson has been waiting for his time to be a superstar. This is that year. Everybody is talking about Nico and James Pearce, but this season is going to end up being all about Dylan.
It may be year 4 for Heup, but don't forget we had 25 guys transfer out after Pruitt and we got hut with scholarship reduction. It makes his success that much more impressive.
I grew up about 15 miles from Rocky Top. I get my corn from a jar, ground is too rocky by far. I joined the USAF in 2001, and stayed in until 2021. Some of the coolest people I ever served with were Pacific Islanders. I was stationed in Guam from 06'-09', and was fortunate enough to have to live in a neighborhood where my neighbors were locals, and the treated me like family. They always invited me over for holidays, and parties. Pacific Island culture is unique and if you give respect, you get it back. I always admired that trait. It's great to be a Tennessee Vol, and after Saturday night, it's clear we've got a generational talent at QB in Nico Iamaleava.
Vol fan here, definitely not an unstoppable offense but I love seeing all the good things about this team. Hope these guys continue to grow and get better which I really think they hey got some special guys on the line; Sampson; Nico and some receivers that can get that done GBO!!!
lol every time the Vols prove people wrong people say “yeah but let’s see how they do against…” Once we beat Bama.. yeah but Saban is gone now let’s see how they do against….
That’s because we saw this movie in 2022. Had to listen to Vols talking about “it feels like 1998”, wrote a damn book after beating Bama, got ranked #1, and were natty winners halfway through the season according to Vols fans….fast forward a few weeks and they get dominated by Georgia and then lose to South Carolina in embarrassing fashion. Nobody is saying that Vols aren’t good but how about let’s wait and see how they do once they play a team like Bama because NC State is trash and let’s not even get started on Chattanooga school for the deaf and blind from week one

@@autonomouspilgrimage6137 how do we know clemson and nc state are far apart this season? Based on what? They haven't even played yet. Both teams got boat raced in their one competitive game this season.
Georgia runs 3-3-5 packages and so does mizzou. But we don’t play mizzou this year. Difference is now we can run 12 personnel against those packages and a qb and center who can spot it and call a run up the middle.
The thing that jumps off the screen to me is his poise, we have not seen a freshman this poised since Payton... Then you add the mobility & athleticism, we have not seen poise & athleticism of this caliber since Mansel. The difference is his frame, it's all packed into a 6-6 package. He has the upside to be the Randy Moss of QBs. He's a freak!!! The confidence that he gives his teammates every time he approaches the line of scrimmage, bleeds out to the stands.
If I'm not mistaken Tennessee has averaged over 200yds rushing per game over the last 3 seasons. Only team we haven't had success on the ground against is Georgia. We returned 4 starters on the OLine and added Lance Heard. This the best O Line we've had so far.
To me i wanted to see how Nico handle errors on his part. He answer that, lot of football to be played, so take one game at a time, have fun, and win. GBO!!
Listen I’m homer so I’m always high on my boys. But let me tell you something Huepel is really impressing and once he gets Nico to see the field like Hendon could see it like Huep can see it then that’s when the offensive will really be unstoppable. Basically knowing how to use all your tools properly. Tim banks used to really worry me but I think this might be his first year having exactly what he wants, I think he’s gonna scheme some stuff up that will drive offensive coordinators crazy.
They were dropping 8 in coverage of course he got confused! He was poised though is what i noticed the most! Snap and clear mentality he'll be just fine with more reps
Keep in mind that we haven't showed our hand. Im not a football genius but i can see that every game we are different offensively. Its enough that even i, lol, can see it. Having said all that, i can't wait to play Oklahoma. They have a young QB as well. It will be a good game.
I think Nico should not run and risk injury in games that are well in hand. I bet during the Florida, Oklahoma, Bama and Georgia games we will see him take more risks running but we will also see him flushed out of the pocket more.
Great commentary. I'm not worried about Nico. The first overthrow pick was tipped at the line of scrimmage, and the second one could happen to anyone. That one was just a loss on our O Line. I'm excited to see what the rest of the season brings. Nico will settle in the longer the season plays out. This is his first year as the starter, and he's just getting some things figured out. I think any and all criticism here is fair and valid.
@robstn4640 It may not have been, I thought I saw a finger or 2 get on the ball by one of their D linemen. I didn't think about it that way, though. That makes sense.

The '22 team was a surprise and they honestly overachieved. That defense, especially the secondary really struggled and they got exposed a couple times. Only reason that secondary didn't get exposed more often is cause of the d-line being good. This secondary is more athletic, the linebackers are quicker, and the d-line is better and way deeper. The O-line is also a little better and they are deeper at WR and definitely TE. They have also shown they can win in different ways than the '22 team. They never went with 2 TE sets in '22 cause they couldn't, and it hurt against Georgia. Now they are capable of so many more looks and gameplans
