you are over thinking it - go back to what made you. a little more fishing, a little more equipment reviews, a little more instruction. where to go - what to use - how to use it.

This is what made me a subscriber. Even if you're doing the same videos over about instruction. Most people will not go back through your video history to check. I learned how to surf fish watching your videos and even if a new one was made about how to do it for new subscribers to your channel, Id watch the new one also.

      Bingo!
That’s what brings down most great restaurants. Example. Chilis used to only have 3 burgers, garlic fries and great margaritas. Then they expanded their menus and it went to crap.
Point being, dance with the girl you brought. It worked. It will still work.

His videos are not the same. He used to explain like you said, what he's using what kind of gear locations now. He puts out videos in the middle of the day no early morning videos, I guess he doesn't want to wake his wife up too early. Yes, the business that's more important right now. This is just a side gig

I LOVE your traditional content!! It’s why I subscribed to your channel and been watching your great content for 6 years. Fishing with your family and your surf & Little Lagoon fishing is the jam and the reason for your success, in my humble opinion. Change is good, but staying with what works and what we love is really good too. Again, just my opinion. Every day you’re on the beach is another day I’m on that gorgeous beach with you, which brings me great peace & joy!

I have not been able to get out and do anything at the beach for almost 2 years due to medical conditions. I just love your videos. I say just keep being you. Do you. I will continue to watch. Love seeing the beach, the different types of fishing and the multiple places you visit. Love seeing your videos pop up.

For what ever it’s worth I just got back into surfing the past year and a half your videos, including Brad and Brants have taught me a lot, and I can honestly tell you that following your tips I consistently catch fish on the surf fishing ! i’m 67 years old and fishing since I’ve been eight years old have owned many boats now I’m in to kayak fishing and I’ve always loved fly fishing up in the streams in the mountains and around Ozello Florida for redfish, but I have to say sitting on the beach, waiting for your rod to bend has become my new favorite. I’m happy that you made the comment you’re going to continue on with the same content and I will be looking forward to and watching your future videos one thing I appreciate about your videos is how you include your wife and your beautiful daughter thank you for inviting us into your homes, I love the catch and cooks😊

You have a tackle shop, walk us through some of those gadgets and new items you are seeing from the vendors. Also, would love to know how the sponsorships work. Be that some crappy reels company or an ebike… stuff no one talks about but has riddled the fishing creators.

I like the idea of you trying new spots outside your normal 'stomping grounds'. Unfortunately, I know that costs more money to go new places. One idea that might not be difficult is to go out on the boat with Brad? I would assume the shop takes up a whole lot of time. You do you, the audience will be here.

Something that I love to see is the underwater video. I think that if you dedicated a rod to a baited (no hook) underwater camera where you are fishing so we could see a "fish eye view" of how the fish are acting while you catch them, it would be very cool.
Taking needy/neighborhood kids fishing and meet the fans content would also be a boon.
"How to" content on the actual tying and rigging of tackle would be awesome. A lot of folks tend to struggle on putting together rigs that do not twist up or tangle or even that do not target the species they desire. You do a type of fishing anyone can enjoy and helping those folks that are new to get going is a positive idea.
I will admit that I am not much of surf fisherman as I prefer reefs and wrecks but I very much enjoy your content. Your delivery, friendliness and family directed videos are excellent.
I appreciate what you do and hope you keep pushing forward.

I think a good idea would be a budget oriented video with only stuff you can get from your store. Heck - maybe even a 1 v1 v 1 with Brad and Brandt. Each get your stuff at the store then have a day to catch the most fish wherever you chose within a few miles maybe...great video and great advertising all in one.

I've been watching you for atleast 5 years and have really enjoyed the content for the most part. The content i enjoy most is your old style of instruction, product reviews, beach fishing and the videos with your family. I have also enjoyed the new boat content with your family. I started watching you to learn how to surf fish although i haven't mastered it yet😂. But i gotta say you seemed happier when you were on the beach surf fishing, instructing (which you are very good at) and spending time with your family and i think those are reasons people watch your videos Matthew. I understand that you have a family to feed and that making content is work but i think if you stick with what makes you happy and you're good at it the subscribers and money will come. I like that your channel is instructional and family oriented.

I chased big speckled trout and slot reds up and down the shore. They were cruising just 4-5 off the shore. Threw the kitchen sink at them. Finally got 1 slot red after about 2 hours. No blue fish. Two recommendations: I love your videos where you fish with lures vs. set rigs. I only know how to fish set rigs and it would be great to have you talk more about what kinds of retrieve methods you are using with the artificials, any kind of special action you are imparting via the rod, etc. You do this to some extent, but some more detail/emphasis on that aspect would be great for me. Second is reading the beach. I've been subbed to your channel for a long time so I know you've covered this before, but reading the beach is so difficult, and the variety of different conditions so wide, that any new video about reading the beach is an automatic watch for me.

You have genuine personality & character that has a calming effect as I watch. Love the videos where you share your family with all of us, the are amazing, and your daughter is going to grow up to be a very special lady, because of the Christian values that you and Courtney are instilling in her.
I really love when you target a specific species, from the beach or boat. I feel you have a very good teaching skill about you. I'd like to see more things like the knots, lures, bait or artificialies for the particular species your going to target. Not sure if that idea seems like a direction you'd enjoy or not?? Bottom line...you've got to just be true to yourself, I'll be here ! Trust in the Lord, he'll show you the way ! Tight lines my friend, my best to the family.

I love seeing you fish with your family, and the cooking afterwards. Basically, I watch the vids for you, I think you're a stand up guy, a man of God, and have a beautiful family relationship that you build and nurture. It's calming to see someone make it look so easy!

I understand how you feel, you might want to get with your family and get their feedback on ideas what you could do. Most writers take some time off to refresh, I haven’t fished over a month I’ve been busy working, schedule is hectic at same time I’m thinking what can I do better to have much better success on fishing. Don’t beat yourself up, I’ve learned a lot from you Brad,& Brent. Thanks for your content if it wasn’t for your videos and contents I would never have started Surf Fishing, It’s because of you mainly. I work in retail, I understand completely what you mean about the products. You never know if the product going to do well or not. My suggestion being that I work in retail, is to have an item that’s not performing well and put them on the Endcap to force it to sell in the front of the entrance of the store to catch customers attention, and have pictures of you, Brad or Brent. You guys do use them. I’m sure you have lot of ideas, just give yourself a chance. You’ll get there. Keep it up, I’ve been having my friends and customers going to your TH-cam channel and Your shop.

Equipment reviews are always useful and the bonus is you can boost shop sales. Don’t be scared to start each video with an equipment intro. Honest reviews go a long way to information anglers what to spend their hard earned money on. Its also educational to learn about new equipment on the market.

Your character and your passion and excitement for fishing are what sets you apart from other people. You're sincere and honest and that alone elevates your content. At the end of the day whats most important, is your enjoyment and making the style of content you want to make as well as achieving your goals. I would rather watch a slower paced video with you being honest and showing your passion, just you being you, then a video that you don't enjoy making. Again the most important thing is you enjoying what you do and you being happy with your content. Those of us who care about you overall, will always be here.

  • @DanielRoot1

It seems like "How to" content would be beneficial. People come down there all the time and want to know how to catch and cook some fish. Maybe they're used to freshwater, but only get once or twice a year to try saltwater. Or maybe they never fished and don't know where to start, or are unsure of the regulations. Or they know how, but don't know how to get their kids into it. Lots of different angles, but the how-tos are what drew me to the channel. Your videos on staggering the distance you cast come to mind. This would of course dovetail with the shop. How-tos involve buying the right tools, AND when people are in the shop being able to tell them you have a video for how to use whatever they are looking at is a good selling point.

Greetings Mathew, My boys (16 & 20 yrs) and I are huge fans! We live near the Texas Gulf coast and just recently embarked on surf fishing. We have been wade fishing in the bay for a few years and have had a lot of success. Last weekend we caught 9 blacktip sharks and keeper specks surf fishing. My 16 yr old caught his PB speck of 23 inches on that trip. Combo of finger mullet and artificial lures for bait along with some shrimp and fish bites on pompano rigs. Super cool experience. Our water is like chocolate milk and not like the beautiful Alabama and Florida waters. We recently visited Panama City Beach and my older son fought what turned out to be a bull shark for an hour at the MB Miller County Pier that we estimated was around 10 ft. long. What an adventure! Watching you and your wife catch monster shark and jack cravelle is always fantastic! All surf fishing techniques have been learned from watching your awesome videos! You and your family inspire more people than you may realize and we greatly appreciate you for your genuine passion and inspiration! Perhaps a weekend strategy based on tides, weather, cycle of the moon, water temp, season, etc. Or a weekly lure challenge for a target species to see how the lure performs with picture evidence from viewers for the catches. Spot light the successful lures in your store with the weekly winner pic or something like that. You could share a series on wade fishing tips. Or a recipe challenge for your catch & cook episodes. Since you asked, just wanted to share a few thoughts. Our thoughts and prayers are always with you and your family! As they say, if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life! Thanks for all you do! Best wishes and tight lines! :)

I love the traditional content, for those that complain I feel that they don't truly enjoy fishing. It's about just doing what you love so it doesn't become a job, I personally love all the videos you post and the videos with the family make me miss when my family would go on camping trips and go fishing. Stay the path and keep the videos coming and thank you for the content you provide.

I started my business from the ground up. I ran my business for 35 + years until I was able to retire! My partner was my wife! We ran successful small business. Def different than what you are doing but we also were constantly looking for ways to improve, and how to innovate with new product offerings. I tended to overthink and fret way too much and had to be reminded (by wife and peer owners) that we had an operationally exceptional company that didn’t need to be fixed just tweaked occasionally. Listen to your wife and peers. Listen to all the “great” ideas that folks throw at you with good intentions and then, YOU make informed decisions based on your experience (after you ask your wife😂). You know what works, just amplify on that knowledge and experience. The best ideas usually pop into your head when you are not force thinking. Ideation. Brainstorming, all good, but sitting out in the kayak and fishing by yourself and let your mind get free.. that’s when the great moments can happen… Keep a yellow notepad handy for when the magic flows. if it aint broke don’t try to fix it but you can always tweak it and always do better. Peace my friend. And keep doing what you’re doing.. and have fun . I enjoy it all!🤙

Now, 40+ years later I see many things we missed out on through your videos. I've learned so much and i will continue to watch because I take so much from your videos and can apply it to the next fishing adventure I go on and think of my dad! I trust in your decision in to whatever content you put out! Stay Bummy brother!!

Bin watching for a long while . When I first started to watch you were catching some big redfish and you were presenting the Bummy stick the big surf fishing stick and explain the real now the lures and all that so I’m in the learning phase. I grew up on the Jersey shore never really learned how to fish the ocean properly, but caught some fish, but yeah, fishing more gear more technique. You’re right God’s got your brother much appreciate the channel and the contact.

I enjoy your content from the beach, especially in the Fort Morgan/Gulf Shores area. Live in Texas and make an annual trip to that area and it’s fun to watch videos from areas that i recognize. Certainly doubt mind a video or two when you go on vacation. 7 yrs is a long time, especially posting every 4 or 5 days. Just don’t lose the passion you have for it. It’s a job, but your love for fishing the beach really shines.

Matthew...I started watching your videos because I wanted to learn to catch fish in the surf. Because of what I learned from your early videos in 2018 I was doing pretty well and catching fish. By 2019 my wife fell in love with surf fishing. There is no one I'd rather fish with it's great to have here out there with me. I can walk off casting lures and leave her with a 4 rod spread and have no worries. She will bait hooks cast even bleed fish for the cooler if they are keepers. Now I watch because I just like to watch you. It's like going fishing with a good buddy. Bringing Courtney and Annalise into your videos has made for great content. It's great to watch you interacting with your family. Keep doing what you do have fun and I'll still be watching.

I want to encourage you to not stop doing what got you where you are. My husband and I have been watching you for a couple of years and really enjoy your video content. You were who we first started watching when we started looking to move here.
I understand your desire for something fresh and new and there’s nothing wrong with that but don’t forget what got you here. There’s a reason it got you this far. It has worked. Do your new stuff but continue with what you know until it becomes obsolete.
From the comments I’ve read we all like what you have done.
When people and companies try to change things up, for whatever reason that may be, they always leave behind what got them there to begin with and then it all starts to fall apart . Why? Because you forget what got you there and what everyone enjoyed watching.
Don’t leave your first love behind. Add to the content. Shake things up. But don’t stop doing what your followers enjoy watching.
We are new to gulf fishing so one thing I would love to see you add is actual teaching videos. Educational fishing videos.

Thanks for telling us what you're thinking. Sometimes knowing what you don't want to do is just as important as knowing what you want to do. Maybe make a list of both, similar to a pros/cons list, and it might spark some excitement in something and lead you down a new path.

Yep. Please have fun. Thanks for sharing your journey. I’ll tell what I miss. 13 minute vids! I’m probably behind the times. But what I always loved about TH-cam was the ability to find a 10-13 minute video on ANYTHING. I could always make time for a short entertainment video but when I see something over 17 minutes I’m hesitant to make the commitment lol. Even if I try cuz I wanna support you, I often don’t finish ( I finished this one cuz it was important 😊). You stay bummy! ❤
