NOTE: Apologies for the wind noise. We did our best but the weather while we were in the middle of filming this bike was horrendous. Not the most ideal shooting conditions.
A 500cc Gas Gas motocross bike, no way, thats not possible! Charles from mxRevival and Riley at BRC Racing Canada; “Here hold my beer!” Just when we think we have seen it all, something comes along that surprises us and makes us just stand back and enjoy the finished product. On this week’s Two-Stroke Tuesday Charles gives everyone the first look at his completed Gas Gas MC500 appropriately named “HELFYRE”. Below are some words and images directly from the builder himself. What started out as a meek MC250 has now fully transformed into a massive MC500 using one of BRC racing’s incredible 500cc drop-in engine kits. What’s really special about this conversion, in our case, (and aside from you guys being able to win it) is that we were able to not only double the engine displacement- but the BRC kit also allowed us to keep a counter-balance & exhaust valve equipped engine, and add electric start to this once “kick-only” Gas Gas model.
Just look at the size of that engine! It took up every last bit of real estate the Gas Gas chassis had to offer.
f course, building a $35,000 dirt bike means that there are literally countless details we can’t cover here.
So be sure to check out the latest mXrevival TH-cam video for the full HELFYRE reveal. We give away MX parts in every single episode.
You can also enter to win HELFYRE via www.mXrevival.com.
Wrapping up, stay tuned for an upcoming article on HELFYRE in Dirt Bike Magazine! And don’t let us catch you slippin’ without a subscription either!

What a time to be young. Enjoy while you have it!
I watched the build on this bike start to finish and can say the bike is incredible and the entertainment value of MXrevival is 2nd to none !
Luv ya
Videos don’t do most bike justice
It looks really rideable for a 500
Yes! Remembering me on my KX500 building my own lines and corners on a race track ... and yes, rear tire, need a lot! Good times, will never forget!
Charles killed this build! I watched it from the beginning @MXrevival ! Cant wait to see his future videos!
Here we go again. Another Magazine testing yet another 500cc two stroke. When all they talk about is what it takes to build the conversion. Hello, we already know what it takes to build these 500cc Two Strokes. We also know there are many builders building thier own versions. Starting with Built500 aka "Service Honda ". Which has been building the 500cc Conversions since 1997. Your readers really want to see is. We actually want to see you magazine editors compare and test all the 500cc two stroke versions against your 450 4pukes. I know we have I believe 4 major companies that build 500cc two strokes. Which is more than enough for a shoot-out. I know, I know you don't want to bite the hands that feeds you. Meaning, the manufacturers will be but hurt and do not want you to print or prove the manufacturers went the wrong way by dropping the 500cc two strokes. The last time a 500cc Two Stroke was compared to a Modern 450 4puke. Was in TransWorld MX. When Donn Meada printed the lap times. Showing the 2008 Service Honda CR500AF was faster than thier Modified CRF450. By all test riders. Plus the more they rode the 500cc the faster thier lap times got. What bothers me the most is at the time you had the MC500 you also had the 450 4pukes testing them. But, you didn't actually compare it to the 450 4pukes. You just don't want the manufacturers to stop sending you bikes to test. Just like you magazine editors are afraid to have tiers Wars like you have done 30yrs ago. When you compared tires brands. But, no you want to keep giving Dumblop great Fake reviews. Just so they keep sending you free tires.
Someone sounds upset on the first day of the new year!
@@DirtBikeMagazine no just wish the magazine editors had balls like they did years ago.
Yeah he's got a point. We're all thinking it. Well said man
“Upset on the first day of the year “ is not an answer.
@DirtBikeMagazine how about starting off with something simple first. 🤔. Start with Tires yes tires. Put the Tires to a Shootout. DUMBLOP, Pirrelli, Maxxis, Michelin and the IMX 25 Hoosiers.
I've said it once I'll say it again, Good job Charles at Mxrevival, Just a beautiful, badass bike build
Thanks dude!
Nice Bike, Nice test, gotta go now and roost my perfect stock CR500 like I do every weekend.
Go faster take more chances, my kind of octogenarian fun...
Top Ten why Old Riders never die
1. Too badass ornery for death
2. Most older geezers ride solo
3. Ride faster than death can go
4. The faster they go the safer it is
5. Can’t die tailgate BS bench racing
6. Their not on any proscription meds
7. Been there, passing death in the dust
8. They ride at deaths speeds all the time
9. They can ride faster than deaths crashes
10. Those that died, were happily on the gas

I know these will have a power hit, but if your like me and used to the open class of the desert of a 600+ 4 stroke you’ll love this. CR 500’s were deal back then too, and in Baja. The only thing that pisses me off if the cost of these kits! Used 250/300 2 smoker, plus $6500 big bore kit, suspension all the other bits your dug in at $14000. No joke. Build me one for less, I’ll buy it!
OK Mark, when are you gonna get all the available (semi ) modern 500 two bangers together for a shootout?? 😁
I know the logistics would be, shall we say, horrendous, but DB's readers/followers/TH-camrs NEED to see it!!!👍👍
I wish I was a multi millionaire and owned a MX team, because I'd love to see one of these running against the 450's at the Nationals!
Wow...that dude is riding the s- out of that monster!
Mark Tilley is 46 years old and still hauls!
You should put it up against a CR500 with an equally skilled rider and do a shootout between them. That would be interesting.
I don't understand the big fight over witch is better 2s or 4s , I have been riding these bikes all my life and I think they are both GREAT ! I ride my XR570 when I just want to have fun, and I ride my CR500AF when I just want to scare the crap out of my self . WIN ! WIN !
Puff just like that. NOTHING BUT CRICKETS.
That pipe could be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen😵💫😵💫😵💫
Soon as you said 250 gears , I went na , 500 gears in a kx500 or cr were 5 speed only . They were heavily duty wider gears and bigger dog teeth . Keen to here more about it or if I’m wrong
Yes! I really feel 2 strokes of all sizes will be available in the next 10 years. Do I buy the 500, the 400, or the 300.....
How do they "BRC" 500cc 2-stroke stack up against the Maico 700 2-stroke? Torque and ridabilty? Frame set up ect.... looking at ordering something at the end of 2024 .
Kaplan did a 700 Maico conversion on a new gas gas he wasn't to impressed compared to the brc 500 conversion
BRC has done multiple engines. Back in the day, they produced kart engines that damn near dominated in their classes. They had a twin cylinder 250cc shifter kart that made in excess of 100hp. Everything they did was in small numbers BUT this dirt bike engine allows them to do numbers. They are doing 2 for the KTM/Husky/Gasgas and 1 for the Yamaha.
Beautiful project bike build by Charles
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
YEP , we all dig these machines now companies need to just put them back into production. All the major brands! Options of carburetion or fuel injection amongst other options. They burn clean enough. I'd say they don't even compare to how much emission all the Diesels put out along with all the Jets in the sky LOL thank God we still have the yz250!
You need to get this bike to the UK and race it against the Yzilla of 999lazer
Awesome bike!
Thanks
My favorite part about the video was the wind noise!
Glad you enjoyed it !
@@DirtBikeMagazine it was good!
@@someoneyouknow96 DJ...🤣 Bro it was straight up Kandahar out there
@@mxrevival i believe it. I saw the vids leading up to this one.
wow nice new stunt bike
Nice!
Real fast racers don't need to bambam (#51)! 😁
Avec des suspensions modernes, et un châssis plus rigide .les 500cc 2t déciderait vite plus rapide que les
450cc 4t de 2024
Have a test featuring a Honda CR 500 side by side against it.
nice
We don't want to see ONE OFF SPECIALITY BUILDS that give us heartache...We want ALL our much loved 2 strokes back and be able to go buy one right off the showroom floor again..With modern day clean burn synthetic lubricants..fuel and oil injection to hell with emissions and expensive complex 4 strokes and modern electric bikes dont even cut the cake..Give us back what was wrongfully taken from us in the first bloody place..enough said.
This thing is downright rapid. There's not a 450 four-stroke that could hang with this bike.
No replacement for displacement.
How can you not give us a comparison of this bike vs a modern 450???????
Because it would make this $$$$ project look bad. In reality it probably has similar lap times as the stock MC250 but more difficult and tiring to ride.
I see the crank balancer shape in the case where ktm/gas gas/husq put it wondering if it still incorporated and effective in the build or is that the starter??
Oh, by the way. If you do grow a pair big enough to actually test and compete any of the 500cc Two Stroke Conversions. Against your 450 4pukes or at least your 2024 450 4puke Winner. The only fair way to do so is. 1. THEY ALL USE THE SAME TIRES. 2. THE SUSPENSION AND CONTROLS MUST BE SETUP TO ACCOMMODATE ALL RIDERS. 3. YOU MUST PUT IN EQUAL TIME ON ALL BIKES FOR THE RIDERS TO ADAPT TO THE BIKES.
Inquiring minds of your readers and followers will be waiting.......
Sell said. They are scared to compare because they already know the answer. 2 Stroke 🏅🏁👍4 Stroke 👎
Nah. 300cc's is close enough to ideal for me.
Please appeal to Ktm / Gas Gas to put this bike into production there are so many people who still want this bike
KTM could reinvent there 550 2 Stroke they made in 1996 so many people are repeat customers 'Kaplan America" Would agree
The KTM 495 was/is a two stroke monster.
Price?
1000 bucks per HP 😂😆😆 up to about 12 over a stock gasgas 300.
does it have the 250 crank? seems like it eould chew threw cranks fast
No, new bottom end comes with the kit
saaaaaaaak i want one@@LEEROY_UK
For 45 yrs been riding raced & back to riding 2 strokes. Even built my son an all new 2T crf150rb. The cost effectiveness on 4T's is just not worth the switxh & never will be for me
That is a very interesting way to pronounce Hygge. 🤨
🤣
2 Smokeah 500
Nah let the winner test it be wore out before they get it lol
Sooo basically didn’t review it at all lol
Nowhere near worth the money, the 500 kit on the gasgas 300 makes about 12 more HP for like 10,000.00 like 1000 dollars per HP im good.
The sound is terrible...four banger forever😊
My KTM 450 xcf can beat that piece of crap.
Let's take a vote. All who agree with me say "I"
All who apposed say "Nay".
