    You're correct! Frank Oz was indeed the voice actor for Animal for a lot of his appearances.
    Also yes, Sam the Eagles whole thing is that he tries to be extremely patriotic but having no clue what he's talking about. My favorite part is that you can hear "God Save the Queen" in the background of his part.

    Kermit’s line about “You can take Manhattan” if I’m not mistaken is a jab at the legal rights to “Muppets take Manhattan”, one of the few muppet movies that Disney didn’t get the rights for. But they’re not sweating it, because like Kermit said, he’s “got a pad in every lake, it’s kind of easy making green.”

    • @CouchSpud91
      @CouchSpud91 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      And the "made from a coat" line is extra good because the original Kermit muppet was literally made out of Henson's mother's old coat taken apart and stitched together.

  • @IceFire2050
    @IceFire2050 ปีที่แล้ว +358

    Goggles and Croaker are 2 other frogs that grew up with Kermit in the swamp.
    For the Gonzo "Canon/Cannon" line, it's because in recent years they've leaned much more in to Gonzo having a non-binary gender. He's done the princess outfits in the past but has historically been presented as a male character, but in more recent years they've had him flipping and doing more female-type roles as well and there was some backlash over that. "Don't tell me what is and isn't canon" basically, "Don't tell me what my gender is."
    Yes, Frank Oz puppeted Animal.
    For Pepe the Prawn, He says Dwayne Swanson, it's a pun on Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) because of the appearance, but also Dwain Swanson, the father from 19 Kids and Counting. Pepe the King Prawn has over 1000 children.

    • @TheStupendium
      @TheStupendium ปีที่แล้ว +126

      The Canon/Cannon part is also a reference to the movie 'Muppets From Space', which tried to establish an origin story for Gonzo. In the movie Gonzo discovers they are an alien and their people (a whole starship of Gonzo like aliens) comes to earth to take them back to Oznog, their home planet'.
      This was very poorly received by fans who liked the mystery of Gonzo just being a 'whatever', and was walked back, being officially declared as not canon, though it was originally intended to be canon character development.

      Yeah, Sam is the Muppets' censor, and part of the gag is that he THINKS he's cultured, but he's constantly missing the point. Like, he thought Beethoven was a playwright. There's one episode where Rudolf Nureyev, a famous ballet dancer, guest stars and Sam doesn't recognize him in street clothes, then, when he finds out, happily talks about how this show is finally promoting some culture...Before referring to Nureyev as "my favorite opera singer".

    9:41 Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but I think, on top of the canon line being about his gender, in Muppets From Space, Gonzo has an entire story about finding his family who happen to be aliens, the story was changed various times while it was being made and afterwards when it released and it didn’t go down too well, the film was officially claimed to be non-canon and just been a movie where the muppets happened to be playing themselves. People have since talked about whether the movie is or isn’t canon to Gonzo’s character :)

    Sam plays Ebenezer's old schoolmaster in Muppet Christmas Carol. One of my favorite bits is when he is giving a speech to young Ebenezer about the importance of business and ends it with "It's the American Way!"

Reminds me of their "We Happy Few" song with the Redacted parts (briefly) in plain text. One great line from Rowlf's verse you, and a lot of others, missed was "Tatty and unkempt, so actually the Main G", which sounds like Mangy since he's always a gross dog in the show!

    THANK THE LORD ! As I grew up in France the muppets didn't existed and only heard of them through memes, and I was so frustrated not recognising any references in this banger, your video just made the listening all more flavorful and I love it ! (Side note : I think the "no sesame line from Kermit is in reference of sesame street, could be wrong)

    Currently at 3:31 here - I wonder if Stupes will ever do an Undertale episode of the Unlikely Cyphers, given the amount of memorable characters in that game, similar to Muppets basically where you don't really left out anyone. Anyways excited for that ONE HOUR LONG reaction episode!

    If you love Rolph, you should watch his big scene in the Muppet Movie. It starts with Steve Martin as an annoying waiter, and ends with a great duet with Kermit and Rolph called "You can't live with 'em." Super great song that would 100% be something you'd love to react to (well, aside from the legal aspects)

    5:40 Goggles and Croaker are Kermit's childhood friends, as featured in the 2002 direct-to-video TV movie Kermit's Swamp Years.
    6:32 Wilkins Coffee. You should watch their ads: they're unbelievably subversive, and hilarious.
    6:57 That's not exactly how it went down. First, the Muppets were on ABC (Rowlf the Dog on the Jimmy Dean Show), then they went to PBS (Sesame Street), and then, while trying to get a primetime variety series off the ground, Henson's team worked on SNL before travelling to London to film The Muppet Show.
    27:39 Actually, Gonzo was voiced and puppeteered by another Muppet performer named Dave Goelz. He also did Bunsen Honeydew, Zoot from the Electric Mayhem, and Boober and Uncle Matt from Fraggle Rock. Goelz is also the voice of Disney's Figment the Dragon. Frank Oz, on the other hand, also performed Fozzie Bear and Sam Eagle from The Muppet Show, as well as Sesame Street Muppets Grover, Cookie Monster, and Bert.

    23:05 Since you asked... It's Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, which goes into "breathing the mayhem" from a couple lines back. Electric Toothbrush would make more sense, but since when have the Muppets ever bothered with that?
    Edit: 29:25 Ha, should have kept watching.

    Ian, there's another level of pun in the Swedish Chef bit, in the actual show. That launcher he uses isn't a bazooka, it's a simplified/cartoon version of a Carl Gustaf recoilless rifle... which is manufactured in Sweden.

    I know no one asked for this but it felt just right, I love the organ. Dr. Teeth`s verse of "turning cathedrals to theaters" always make me think, what aren't there more organs in everyday lives
    There're such a cool increment, and I know bigger require a lot of setup Dr. teeths seems to be portable. I feel like organs should be recognized more, so YOU the reader, please research organs and understand to love them as much as I do.

I don't know how I missed that. I think I was so distracted with the "Swedish" text and the English subtitles that my eyes didn't know where to go!
