As a white guy who's starting to think about visiting the Philippines, I would absolutely discourage my Filipina girlfriend from using whitening anything. I want a brown skinned woman. Something about the brown skin, dark eyes and jet black hair just makes me weak in the knees. I just hope it happens someday.

yes brother, i understand you. It took me a little while to convince my filipina wife to keep her hair black for me and that i am in love with her dark eyes, hair and skin complexion. She now understands that she can captivate this white man by being as dark as she can. Just tell your filipina that opposites attract abd that you desire her dark features the same way she desires your light features

My Filipina wife of 27 years passed away over 1 1/2 years ago. We had 27 wonderful years together. I met her in the U.S. on a tourist Visa. After she passed away, I knew I wanted to marry another Filipina, because their values are far better, then American women (I know there are exceptions to this). Presently, I am engaged to a Cebuana and interestingly enough, she has fair skin. We met online and upon our first meeting, we hit it off as if we have known each other for years. Perhaps it's because I had already been married to a Filipina and we lived together in the Philippines for over 12 years. So I was already accustomed to Philippine culture and their values. I found what I consider to be the love of my life!

sir!! how i wish i could pick up your brain. learned something valuable today. I’m a nineteen-year old filipina and it just made sense to me why i’m starting to consider in dating white men in the future. we had the same thoughts with your wife. i also thought that it might be because of my preference. but when you explained your side that it could also be because of social conditioning, it totally clicked!! i used to feel ashamed of my skin because my mother raised me to work hard on getting a fairer skin but as i get older, i learned to love and embrace what i have. and not to mention the toxicity of the filipino media. damn, it made sense!! love the lesson i learned here which is to make up your own rules in life 🤘

Man, this guy is very credible and the points he makes are very plausible. I thought for a minute though that he was talking his wife into thinking that her attraction to him was actually founded in some sick thing in Asian culture.
I remember one time I was showering compliments on my hot, exotic, Filipino wife. I told her she was exotic. What was funny was that she returned the compliment and told me, no, you're exotic. Then, we got in a fight about who was more exotic and why. It was pretty funny.
Nope, sometimes one can be attracted to a certain aesthetic, personal traits, personality and values. One can blame God for making certain people attractive, but don't blame me for liking it.

I met my wife online and it took me 2 months to pursuade her to sent a picture. She has a beautiful morena complexion and is chubby since ever. She thought she would loose me after i see her in full. She was bullied when she was young and everybody told her she will never find a husband because of her size and complexion. I told her she is beautiful and now she likes i compare her to german chocolate bcause of her sweetness and complexion. Now she is proud to be my "Choco" :-)

Aftere 15 years of ups and downs, laughs and tears from what I understand everything I poured out of my heart into the hands of another who threw it away but if I did the same to a Filipina, she'd be honored and loved and would appreciate it and me?? WOW!! The last 3.5 yrs were ❄️ice cold 🌬️ queen 🥶 B 🌬️

The way Rose explained it to me was that in the past the upper class never worked out in the sun as they had servants to do it. So the rich and powerful naturally had lighter skin than a general laborers that were in the sun all day. Over time people just began thinking that White meant rich and successful. I enjoyed your video as always. Keep up the good work 👍

Preference to have lighter skin is because of Spaniards.
Dictated us lighter skin is superior, high class status & beautiful for 333 years as a colony.
Influenced our preference when we look for future boyfriend or husband.
Still, we can be attracted to anyone.Lighter skin or darker.
We try our best to embrace our brown skin & it is still on going.
Another influence: INTERMARRIAGE of Spanish & native filipinos = mestiza or mestizo
That story happened to a lot of families. My grandma, family members & her ancestors were mestiza.
I did not inherit their color & accepted it now.Embraced it already.
During my teens, my grandma EMPHASIZED "superiority thru mestiza beauty". We should be proud to be coming from SPANISH family.
Became insecure of my skin to an extent because of her.Thankful I got over it.I still love her, even if her mindset is different from mine.

I am currently engaged to an American, who is absolutely the most loving and wonderful man I’ve ever met. I’ve always admired white men, but I haven’t dated one until I met my fiancé. I’ve always dated Filipino guys in the past. To be honest, though I preferred white men, I still got attracted to other skin colors as long as they had a good character. But now, I only have eyes for my man. My point is, skin color doesn’t really matter if someone has a heart of gold.💛
To add, I’d have to agree with your argument about the morena skin. I used a lot of whitening products as a teenager just so I could be called beautiful. The moment I snapped out of that obsession due to culture and perpetuating influence of the media that ‘fair skin is better’, I have learned to love my tan skin more. And my fiancé loves my skin, too. He wouldn’t want me any other way. And now, my preference changed because I find morena women a lot more attractive! So, morena skin all the way!💛✊🏽

most American guys like myself after having dated several American women, tend to find American women very spoiled, self centered and materialistic and greedy. I have a circle of friends that have married filipinas and I find them very warm and loving, funny and exciting to be around. my first marriage to a filipina didnt work out(she cheated) but my 2nd relationship with another filipina that I plan to marry in the future has been such a blessing that I am glad my 1st marriage ended. my current filipina I took much longer to get to know her 1st before we both decided we want to be together. this coming march will be my 2nd trip and we have grown closer in the 3 years we have known each other, with my first marriage I felt it was a bit rushed and we really didnt devote much time to really get to know one another, looking back on it, I wished I had taken another year to get to know my 1st wife better and it would have saved me 9 wasted years. I would encourage couples not to rush into marriage, could save major headaches later on

I am a Filipina and my skin is also a bit on the tan side. Thanks, Bryan (?) for explaining/clarifying that out to Angelica (also to Filipinas who experienced the same discrimination as her) the psychological effects of color preferences.
I am in my 50s now and I remember being bullied by my older sibling for having dark skin. That left a stigma which I had to struggle through life making skin white all my adult years. Moreover, the struggle to make myself white also meant giving up a lot of things I loved doing like sports that would expose me to sunlight.
That kind of mentality made me unhappy over the years. I neglected to focus more on my inner beauty. I realized as well that being unique inside and out is more than enough to be beautiful. And when I emanate that as my point of focus, other people began to appreciate me more, are more comfortable, and are happier being with me more.
Now, I am enjoying my life with my normally tanned skin, sometimes darker when I get too much exposure to the sun. On the other hand, I still see my sibling always struggling to remain to be white yet still unhappy with her life and marriage.

That is totally true! When I came here I learned to embrace my natural brown complexion. Growing up nobody said that I am beautiful bcoz of my color. My sister have a brighter skin color than me so I am next to my sister and they tell her she is cute and nobody said I am. I told my husband that story and he felt so bad. He said I am very beautiful!😍😁

    Great points and insights!
Being a "white guy" in the USA, I have to be careful about "age gap" relationship possibilities.
Most of my friends balk at the idea of me having a relationship with someone 40 let alone younger.
I did graduate level work in mental health counseling and psychology and several years ago had an "Ah...ha!" Moment as to why I'm generally not attracted to women around my age.
I was married late at 32...marriage lasted 3.5 agonizing years and then ended after my wife cheated.
So my theory is that being single and not having a wife to "age with" I tend to look at women around my age as almost like they are my mother...lol Serious though. I have seen some women in their fifties that were very attractive, but they are married so no opportunity there. I do know there are other factors that affect me. Many I meet have been divorced not once but twice. One time I'd be willing to take a chance after getting to know their life's story but twice divorced tells me you haven't gotten your unresolved issues solved.
You are so right about "conditioning."
We could easily take a young boy in partial conditioning and show him constantly overweight women and continue to tell him how beautiful they are compared to pictures of women who are slender. In so many cases, that young boy grown up will have developed a preference to overweight women.
We are in essence a product of our environment to a huge degree.
Now, I have seen and met some amazing women who were heavy but to me very beautiful. I'm a "face" person and am attracted to a beautiful smile on a women.
In most cases as a married couple advances in age, they acquire wrinkles and skin spots as well as excess weight...but if they truly love one another then that love transcends those acquired imperfections.
And nope...dont want to marry a 25 year old....or a 30 year old. For me I would worry about her happiness and future satisfaction.
    Anyway....great stuff you two!
If you dont mind me asking...obviously you are far from retirement age. What industry are you involved in?
You look like you could be either a business leader, a coach or in sales.
I hope you both count your blessings each day. That is so awesome that your wife loves your children like she does and that they love her back.
I've unfortunately have never had the blessings of children. They truly are a gift from God.

As a white man (very white), I am flattered that Filipinas like my skin tone. As far as white mens preference towards women, it really varies by each man. Generally I think it is finding a good woman is first and then the other factors click in. This is just my opinion.

  • @cbro777

I found it interesting that as she was attempting to tell her truth about preferring white skin, he wanted to steer her in another direction. How does a man just hijack someone's opinion and world view? Her truth and preference are hers. I think it's possible that being bullied for having a brown skin tone may have lead her to feel ashamed of her looks in a way. The same as some black people grew up feeling ashamed of their darker skin. I'm not saying she's right or wrong., I just think it's okay be honest about how you got to where you are in your preferences in the opposite sex. We all like what we like and that's no different than preferring brunettes over blondes. It's just what I like. Not that one is better than the other.

@@CrazyFilipinaLove I wasn't implying it, I was stating it. I mean if the subject of discussion is why Filipina women choose white men, why not allow HER to express HER point of view? It was as if you'd prefer her to see things from your perspective. Just a tad domineering. I've watched a couple of your videos and plan to watch more because I'm interested in the idea of connecting with a Filipina woman. There just seems to be a ton of these videos being done by men from the states and not women from the Philippines so the conversation is a bit one sided.

Chuck Brown Hey Chuck, I understand your point of view. I get it, and appreciate it. If you were a fly on the wall while we are shooting and editing with you would see things differently. Not being domineering in any way. I’m trying to get her to open up and participate more. You will see in other videos. Some topics she is more comfortable talking more. The truth is, this is my passion, It’s really been my passion for years. I’m a psychology research nerd that seeks a deeper understanding of why people do what they do.
The goal is to make a difference. Doesn’t matter to us if she does all the talking or me.
Will leave you with this. If a Filipina can speak good English from our point of view, most will still hold back from deeper content speaking on camera because other Filipinos can be very judgmental of another’s English speaking ability. It’s a real thing.

I love the dark skin and dark eyes and black hair of filipinas. Does that make sense? I think a lot of men would say the same thing. I don't think many would criticize a white man for being obsessed with the dark skin dark eyes and black hair of filipinas. How is it any different for a Filipina to like light skin color? And it can boil down to just preference as A make it or break it criteria. That doesn't mean a person basis their entire selection on skin color but it can easily direct someone to select only from that category, with all other necessary and more important criteria being met.

It is preference based thinking, I've been married to American women and I'm tired of them just because of the whole sequel revolution thing and the prevailing feminist movement. I'm leaning towards a filipina for just that reason and I love the beauty they possess inside and out. My first wife was filipina German mix but born and raised in the states. She introduced me to the culture through family and I learned first hand about how family oriented they are and how welcoming they are . Unfortunately her americanizm caught up with her and she stepped out on our relationship and I had to end it . I know this can happen anywhere but I want a woman with more traditional values in my life . Skin tone is not a prerequisite as much as attitude in my case but I understand where preference comes into play .

Well she got her well deserve answers from many people on Facebook. And she wind up taking the product off Facebook for sale. I have ran into many Afro Americans and Cebu and other places who have wives and girlfriends here in the Philippines. Speaking for myself I am Afro-American is well in my wife is a brown skin Filipina. She just did not fall into the commercial trap that they have in the Philippines with you have to be a different skin color other than what you are. Generally speaking, As a Filipino we have that presumption that white people got money. Unknowingly that there are other races who got more. For my opinion all babies with mixed race either black, white, Asian their beauty is rare & one of a kind.

My maternal grandfather is part-Chinese who married a morena Filipina. Their kids were all morena (including my mom). My mom married a brown Filipino while my mom's sisters ALL married mestizo men. My sisters came out morena while i (dude) got my fair skin from my maternal grandfather (who is half Chinese). Growing up, we saw how "attractive" all our first cousins are since they all have mixed ethnicity. So, i and my siblings grew up feeling "inferior" because we were not as good looking as our cousins. Somehow our "darker" complexion affected our emotional mindset growing up. My parents worked hard to put me in a private school for boys. And in that school for boys, more than half of my classmates are fair skinned/ whiter skinned and are mostly middle class. So, what you are saying about status and opportunity for whiter/ fairer skinned Filipinos is so on point. The good thing about it, though I and my siblings felt "inferior", we excelled in school and all of us got degrees and got professional licenses. All of us are now based in the US and we are proud of our light brown complexion. It is an entirely different mindset here in the US and i tell as many Filipinos as i know to be proud of their brown complexion. White people will spend lots of money just to look darker and not too white.

Beauty here is white ,tall and so on but they dont know that being beautiful is not about skin color or outward appearance but what's in your heart...and to all brown skin there they must embrace your brown complexion and be confident and most of all be authentic and you authentic love too 😊

In my own opinion. Maybe Filipinas are more into white men 'cause it's only the white men mostly who appreciates more the beauty of a filipina especially of filipinas with tan or morena skin. White men appreciates filipina with morena skin. When filipinas with morena skin feels they are not that beautiful sometimes it's white men usually who lifts their spirit and confidence when white men tells them they are gorgeous and with a beautiful skin complexion and filipinas learn to love themselves even more and become more confident...that is my opinion.

This conditioning also comes from their history. The indigenous Philippine is actually dark skinned. Obviously when Spain invaded the Island their mission, like all over the planet was to "white out the country." So the indoctrination stared doing that time. And unfortunately many Filipinas have been indoctrinated with the misconception that the darker skin is taboo. That is of course unless your black & famous. I know this as my own wife who is a Filipina actually told me her friends tried to discourage her from dating me. They told her, if you marry a black Man you won't have a good life. Let's just say after 8 years in a strong and healthy relationship. many of those same friends are now asking her to ask me if I have any friends to hook them up with. So what's changed on their behalf. I'm still black! Great subject matter. Judge a Man on the content of his character, not the colour of his skin.

I'm Black and I'm seeing a Filipina. I noticed her skin is much lighter than she is depicted in earlier pictures. She admitted to using lightening agents. I actually like her darker morena skin. She's still beautiful to me, however. Black women have the same problem, which is why hair weave is a whopping 1.1 billion industry mainly supported by Black women.

Hello, first I am thankful that I found your channel. I joined a dating site some time ago based in the Philippines. I have met the most beautiful human being and I feel in my heart that I want to spend my remaining years with her. We have talked about splitting time between both the Philippines and the U.S. Most of the year would be spent there. My question is what advice do you have for us about living in both places as it relates the two separate cultures we come from and the impact it has on each one especially at the beginning?

  • @Tarlkov
    @Tarlkov 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hello! I've been thinking about this as I have been watching this video. I know, in some other Asian cultures, that lighter skin was more preferable because of social status. When I say social status, I do not mean anything in regard to Caucasians. It boils down to societal/financial status and quality of life. Typically, people with darker skin (same racial group) spend more time exposed to the sun. Meaning they were mainly laborers who worked outdoors. Further meaning, that they were on the lower end of the social ladder. Whereas, lighter skin made it appear that you were in a higher social standing, living comfortably. This would make it an appealing trait when looking for a partner and what the future could bring. In living with this truth over the generations, having it just become part of the culture, makes lighter skinned people more attractive , in this case.
Maybe I am wrong, but this does seem plausible.

Michael Charette Great comment! Yes you on point. This is the social upbringing and mindset. My own wife was always very self conscious of how dark her skin was living in PH before she came to U.S. Now she embraces it and sees it a something that makes her even more beautiful.

You have a lot of experience and a number of interesting topics. However by far my biggest gripe is that you hardly ever let your Filipina talk! Most of us watching these videos are Western (/American) guys who want to learn more about Filipino culture, relationships, etc. So we want to hear from the Filipina, not the white guy!! IMHO she should do 80-90% of the talking, not the reverse.

John Lacey Hi John, appreciate your comment. Think your reading into this video the wrong way. Would be very glad for my wife to take the lead in some of the videos. It’s not that I do not let her, it’s that she isn’t comfortable taking on the deeper topics. She can be shy and has a different set of skills. I have been coaching people, leading people, and studying relationships for 20 years. Practical psychology, ( Understanding what makes people do what they do) is passion of mine. With this comes speaking skills in public and on camera. So again, as time goes on when my wife is more comfortable, but more importantly, she wants to, surely she will do more and more speaking.

This obsession with white skin in the Philippines, and, quite honestly, prejudice towards morenos and morenas, is maddening to me. It all started with the brutal Spanish and American conquistadors in the Philipinnes hundreds of years ago who were always looking for new and inventive ways to keep Filipinos "in their place," and constantly reinforced the idea that brown skin was inferior to white skin. Interestingly, most white men I know, including myself, find morenas much more beautiful than light or white skinned Filipinas. My fiancee is stunningly beautiful, and she is morena, and because of this she was teased as a child and teenager. Now, largely due to my constant affirmations of her overall beauty and beautiful, silky brown skin, she has become proud of her skin color. Occassionally, somebody she knows will say, "Oh, you look so brown, why don't you use whiteners," and my fiancee responds by telling them that her fiance loves her brown skin and that she, too, has come to accept and love her brown skin. Her fellow Filipinas are generally rather perplexed by her response because they too have been indoctrinated with this (very false) idea that white skin is superior to that of brown skin. Sadly, the prejudice goes deeper than mere comments. People are routinely denied certain jobs, not just in the movie industry, but in other industries as well, such as the retail clothing, and makeup industries, among other industries, due to the color of their skin. Fortunately, brown skin does not seem to entirely exclude people from politics, although it has been my observation that there are far more moreno men in politics than women. Due to objectification of women by both men and women, I believe that there is likely far more prejudice towards brown skinned Filipinas than brown skinned Filipinos.

Just after she read the question I was shocked. Whoever wrote that doesn't know anything about Filipinos, or biology, or.... I grew up with Filipinos, in the US, and they are very accepting of all people, and skin color has less to do with it than personality. And unlike women, men do not lose the ability to become a parent with age.
