My dad's very first video game was Metroid NES. My very first video game was Metroid Zero Mission. If they ever do a new remake of this game, I'm sure my child's first game will be that as well.
It’s strange that for a game I hated as a kid growing up in the 80’s; so much so that at one point I filled the cartridge with ashes from my parents’ ashtray and threw it into the trash as the music in Ridley’s Lair literally gave me nightmares (though, much to my dismay my parents eventually found it and were able to salvage the game) it is now one of my favorite games / game series. Same with the fortune teller theme in Link to the Past. Funny the things that scare you as a child become the things you obsess about as an adult.
Lmao that’s crazy, filling the cartridge with ashes because it scared you! Understandable though Ridley’s theme is pretty diabolical. Funny enough, there was a game I played as a kid called “Area 51” for the Original Xbox that scared me so bad I had nightmares about it. Now as an adult though it was one of my most wanted games for my collection because of that fear.
I'm glad you brought up HPRshredder's Metroid video. It's one of the only videos about Metroid 1 that isn't just outright dismissive and/or insulting to the original game from 1986. I was especially disappointed with Arlo in particular. It definitely has its flaws, everyone knows that. But no one should outright dismiss the game entirely. So thank you for giving this old game a fair shot.
Yeah I was also a bit upset with Arlo’s thoughts. Unfortunately people these days just kinda go with what most people say without looking into stuff themselves. I definitely wanted to shed light on this game because of that.
As a kid of this era, it's a masterpiece. Nearly flawless. Part of the evolution of gaming. I understand why you might not like it because it's going backwards for you.
The moment-to-moment gameplay in Metroid is really fun, weaving through enemies and missile blasting enemies out of the air. I wish you spawned with full health, but I'm figuring it out.
My dad and his uncle used to call each other and make hand drawn maps like that for legend of Zelda on the NES that had all the hidden bomb locations and paths. It does sound kinda fun to get through games like that. I actually have Metroid on Famicom disk system but playing it is a massive pain since the Famicom is RF only. The music does go hard on FDS though with the extra sound channels
Man that is so cool your dad and uncle did that! You’d never see people doing stuff like that nowadays lol Yeah I realized as I was making the video that the FDS version had slightly better music cause of that extra channel. That’s why I used it wherever I could haha
The spiky boys are geemers(yellow) and zoomers(red), bats are skreikbats(or shreikbats?) fire boys are novas and I forget the dragon guys names. Also the US release manual has VASTLY bizzare artwork as all the artists had to go off of were the sprites (thats why the manual metroid has tentacles, and why ridley looks like a xenomorph)
my first metroid game was metroid fusion on the wiiu virtual console back. in 2014. now I've beaten every metroid game. I'd recommended you play Metroid Mother + antigrind, its a rom hack of NES metroid which modernizes the game
@@majorcalzone it primarily was the abusive enemy spawns that makes me not enjoy it, it's crazy how much better super metroid is in almost every single way
Somebody starting off with Dread, and then going back to this game must've been like "WHOA METROID HAD SOME AMAZING MUSIC!!!"
Honestly, I don’t think Dread has terrible music, but I can’t deny that the rest of the series is MUCH better lol
Thank you for sharing so many correct opinions
Haha glad you enjoyed the vid

That’s so cool! I love that it’s a generational game for you and your family lol

As a kid of the 80's I loved Metroid. It was awesome, and the first game I ever plated with a destruct after killing the final boss.

Nice video, my birthday is next month on July 22nd this year
Oh nice
@@majorcalzone thanks

Interesting, I never knew that about the manual art
@@majorcalzone Yeah. its pretty neat.

Never heard of that ROM hack before, I'll definitely check it out! Also, Fusion is a FANTASTIC first Metroid game imo lol
Not bad, or good. Because it's great.
it is good
Heck yeah it is
The lack of a map is what always killed this game for me
I love metriod the series, not the first game
Understandable. It’s not my least favorite but I probably would’ve never played it were it not for making videos lol

Right off the bat, how could you not say Castlevania for the original NES. It was bigger than Metroid.
To be totally honest, I’ve never played a Castlevania game so the games rarely ever come to my mind 😅 I do wanna try them out eventually though.
