according to the author (and that was my feeling watching it as well), sang-woo doesn't really do these things out of compassion or niceness, but out of a feeling of obligation and superiority. he's very aristocratic about it, "humble as a rich person" if you will. I've met many people like that from the "higher castes" of society who present themselves as very liberal and charitable but deep down they do believe they are above the rest of us. it's just that they aren't pricks about it and they believe that makes them better than their louder, more arrogant peers.
By the way, that strike Gi-hun was talking about happened in real life back in 2009, SsangYong Motors, they fired almost 3000 people all at once, the strike was a little over a month and several people were killed by police. Afterwards those involved were basically forced to pay for damages they obviously couldn't pay, they were all labeled something along the lines of a "job terrorist". So it really honestly isn't completely Gi-huns fault he couldn't find work for so long, dude has ptsd and with a record like that not a lot of people would want to hire him anyways.

throughout the show sangwoo is portrayed to be nice at times but cold, and he prolly is just that. a kind nice guy but smart and realistic enough to realise that squid game is a competition and is unlikely that there will be more than 1 winner. so hes being realistic and just doing what it takes to win since he needs the money for his mother

It's kind of hard to tell what you're meant to feel about the Christian player. However, Korea isn't a traditionally Christian country, and it reminds you of it in the first episode where Gi-hun says he's from a Buddhist family. In a way, Christianity is treated as this weird western cult with batshit followers. Probably a result of it accidentally absorbing parts of Buddhism.
It's always fun watching your reactions, and to know that you have more than emotions, but personality always makes it fun. Also, if you ever considered reacting to episode 6, get ready, because this is just a fair warning. Have the tissues ready. I've hear episode 6 of the series is hard to watch without crying. I've been in Korea for 2 weeks for work. And in Japan a lot more. The whole formal-informal relationships totally baffled me. The weirdest part for me... I was a consultant for "big Korean company". But they couldn' employ foreigners as consultants so I was technically consultant for a tiny Korean company which then consulted the big one. One important person was Mr Ryu. My translator. I would speak English to Mr. Ryu. He would then speak Korean o the Big company people etc... One day Mr. Ryu was sick... So I wen to big company anyway and all of a sudden the project leader there spoke perfect English. We got a lot of work done that day. The next day my translator was back and all of a sudden the project leader spoke no English. THAT was so weird. And of course always fun in both Korea and Japan is flat-out telling someone older and higher in rank: "NO. You are wrong." When I did that in Japan the gasps were audible :D
netflix just needs to leave the korean relationship terms in (such as hyung, oppa, noona, unni), instead of translating it to their names. honestly it's just bad/inaccurate translation. it erases all context of their relationships. they need to just add a quick footnote for explanation. i mean, people are already reading the subtitle anyway, so they can just pause the screen to read it.
I was watching Train to Busan 2 (not a good movie btw), but one guy called the other guy Hyung and they left it like that in the comments. I knew right away what he was saying because of Squid Game. I love this but at the same time, people who don't know what it means probably thought it was his name or something.

The people have to be alive when their organs are harvested, but the person wasn't unconscious long enough or knocked out enough; I'm not sure if it was a bad translation or something else. That's why the person who was alive had a cross written on the coffin. You can't harvest organs from a fully dead person; there has to be some functionality. In all honesty, I'm still not sure how the organ harvesting works (they talk about a one-kidneyed zombie and Gi-hun was threatened to have his kidney and eye taken for his debts) because organs aren't one size fits all and not every organ is going to be healthy enough or a match for everyone. Organs have to have certain typing, and they can't just sit on ice indefinitely; there's a shelf life to how long an organ is viable. I've been hoping someone could explain it to me but I haven't found any more information on the subject.
