  • CUAUHTÉMOC, Chihuahua, Mexico - Welcome back for another 2021 Mexico Travel video, this time from Mexico’s largest state, Chihuahua, in northern Mexico. This is part 1 of a 2 part video exploring the perils of burnout, stress, and anger when having been travelling full-time and solo for almost 5 years, and not necessarily about Chihuahua itself!
We’re heading to Mennonite country and having quite possibly the WORST pizza in the world! I’m sorry, but it was terrible. Why did SO MANY people recommend it to me? The subject of TH-cam recommendations is also covered in Part 2 and the main theme is around the fact that travel is UNIQUE to ourselves; we don’t need to listen to ‘recommendations’!

If you're thinking about moving to Mexico or becoming one of the increasing number of expats in Mexico, your choices aren't limited to popular areas like Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Cancun or Puerto Vallarta. You might even be looking for off the beaten track Mexico. You might ask the questions, "Is Mexico Safe?" or, "Is Mexico dangerous. Chihuahua is a state that, granted, you'll need to be able to speak Spanish in, but the city and state has so much to offer, just as much as those other places!

David, thank you - this is a fabulous video. I travelled in the state of Chihuahua in 1992 and 1993 and Cuauhtémoc made quite an impression on me. The shopping streets are pretty much as I remember them. I have never seen any other TH-cam videos about this part of Mexico, so this video really made my day. Take care of yourself!

That area is called the Manitoba colony, all the way from Cuauhtemoc to Albaro Obregon, about 40-50 kilometers give or take. After that it's the Swift colony and so on

Especially for younger people I don't want to give the fake impression that everything is always Insta-perfect! I've still got some angel drone shots for the next video which I haven't used yet!! The day I got them was really windy so some of them may have to go in the recycle bin!

Enjoyed the bits of humor, the history and photos of Mennonites, and your thoughts on how we tend to look at those who are different from us, and finding a balance. Sorry the pizza was so bad. It sure didn’t look very good. Keep sharing your thoughts and feelings, good and bad. It makes your videos gritty and real. ❤️ Another epic gem of a video. ❤️ Just plain loved it! ❤️

There are still over 200,000 Mennonites in Canada - the largest concentrations are in Southern Ontario but also Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the Fraser Valley in BC. Many moved from Manitoba to Mexico in the 1920s, but a significant number have moved back in recent years. I feel your pain walking all that way but thank you for a very interesting and thought provoking glimpse at a seldom seen side of Mexico.

AMIGOS! As you can see, Cuauhtemoc was the start of a much needed mental breakdown. I cannot physically fit every recommendation into a video, such as that pizza! They take me away from things that actually interest me! This issue is explored in a lot more detail in Part 2 from Chihuahua. Don't misunderstand - I very much appreciate your recommendations, but I've realised it's not possible to please everyone!

I wouldn't be so sure, farmers in Cuauhtémoc (including Mennonites) use synthetic chemicals and they're not environmentally friendly regarding farming practices. Hello David! Thanks for visiting my state! I´m from the city of Chihuahua and my wife is from Cuahutemoc, thank you for taking the time and effort to record the city as is, not as a fabulous wonder where nothing bad happens. Sorry you didn´t have the best culinary experience with your pizza, I´ve had this pizza many times and in my opinion it is an either you like it or you don´t type of pizza. The main competitor of Los Arcos is La Sierra Pizzeria, which is owned by another mennonite family, I think that both pizzas taste very similar but imo La Sierra has a better tasting sauce and dough, while Los Arcos has a stronger tasting sauce and like you said a very gooey type of dough (and it has always been that way). Wheather it was a good or bad experience, it is precisely that, experience, and you won´t know it unless you live it. I think you made the right choice by making your own choices instead of listening to all YT comments, you do you and enjoy the trip as you would enjoy it while not filming. After all you're a traveler, not a tourist, so enjoy it your way man!

One of their forte is their cheese, it is great. If you ever return to Durango and if love cheese I can recommend small towns in the sierra de Durango to get that quality of cheese. I’m sorry about the “pizzagate”, but one thing I have to say about my home country is that it’s like any other country in the world, with incredible food, but also average and terrible food. It’s interesting what you said that traveling is our personal journey, I’d also say life is our personal journey, we have to make our own decisions, right or wrong. Fortunately i know several other cities in Mexico and some other cities outside the country (the majority of them beautiful places must say) and i can tell you all that i definitely like Cuauhtémoc to live in forever. It is indeed a very small city and most of the time you would say there is nothing to do (specially if you are young) but, the peace in there, the people, the mix of cultures! it is a special and quite different piece of land among all Mexico. Love it.

Idk why Americans view them as a cult but are totally ok with atheists and conservatives

Little Caesers! That is my guilty pleasure especially in Mexico City. Sometimes it can be great, sometimes awful, especially when they put pineapple on it when I didn't ask for it lol. Pizza seems to be a controversial thing in Mexico. Someone messaged me a while ago saying there is no good pizza in Mexico. I better stick to gorditas, I'm happy with that!

@@davidostrowski679 I think Little Caesars is everyone's guilty pleasure in CDMX. It fascinates me how well that chain does in Mexico, it is more popular in the USA. My Mexican family likes to buy the basic cheese pizza and then they like to "spruce" it up with their own toppings

@@pedrozatravel I get the basic Little Casers pizza and always ask for extra cheese and sauce.

@Eric Villa Yes, they have been in Mexico for a long time now, but most Mexicans still see and treat them as outsiders.

While you are in Chihuahua you should take the El Chepe train to Copper Canyon it is a scenic train ride thru woods and mountains.

It's not possible I'm afraid, I work online 5 days a week and there is nowhere suitable to stay within my budget that has wifi. I was originally meant to do it from Los Mochis to Creel.

I met a woman who formerly grew up in a Mennonite community in Mexico. She was working as a cook on a ranch in North Texas. Her old German accent made me think of the early settlers in Texas. Her family even spent time in South America before she married and moved back north.

I just replied but the wifi went down so gotta do it again lol. I said that I remember watching a video ages ago about German speakers in Texas and they interviewed a German speaker from Germany who said even he had difficulty fully understanding everything! Crazy how language works! You in Cuernavaca now?
