You are so right, the beauty of the sets and locations on both seasons needs to be acknowledged. I wasn't a big fan of the first season's storytelling but this season really improved a lot in that department as well. Glad you are enjoying middle earth. :)
Girl, you’re up for a treat! S1 was already fantastic, but s2 is phenomenal! Some info: - Sauron is a Maia (Angel. Sauron is literally a fallen Angel) and when he looses a body he can re-shape a new one by himself, but with time it becomes harder and harder. Also, him taming that warg was a cool nod to him being known as Lord of Vampires and Werewolves in the First Age - the orcs hated and feared Sauron nearly as much as Morgoth (the original evil guy) - The Elven rings were NOT tainted by Sauron, as he didn’t touch them during their creation, but once he makes the One Ring he will gain a slight “access” to them
As mentioned by other people Sauron is indeed a Maiar, the Angels of Tolkien's universe being spirits from the undying lands but send to Middle Earth on a mission, able to be sent again if their mortal body dies until the task is done by the Valar. (lesser gods to the one god Eru), Sauron having gone to middle earth without being sent by the Valar was not restricted on requiring being sent back if his mortal form dies, having an advantage on the other Maiar there. The changing form is not unique to Sauron also but the Wizards chose their forms to be best suited to interact with the Free People's, to be old... not intimidating like a giant holy spirit might look taking form and looking wise and worth taking council from. There was a giant war that happened a long time before the show where the forces of evil with a unit of Balrogs, Dragons, Serpents, Orcs and many nasty things headed by Morgoth and his second in command Sauron where much of the western landmass of middle earth was destroyed by the when attempting to subdue Morgoth and Sauron who went against the order of things. The Valar after that were constantly hesitant to directly involve themselves in Middle Earths affairs in fear of causing the same kind of destruction to the lands their god made. This is why Sauron is such an issue despite being the same kind of Spirit was Gandalf, because Gandalf and all the other Wizards were sent to middle earth with weakened power and a lack of ability to remember in detail much about their eternity as their actual spirit self and the knowledge it has, sent not to fight Sauron but to guide the Free People of middle earth and inspire them enough to defeat Sauron themselves and not have to see the Valar rock up and nuke half the world to beat evil again as they are just too powerful. So although it's true Sauron is akin to the other Maiar spirits we see (Balrogs too were once the same until Morgoth corrupted them like he did with the Elves turning into Uruk disconnecting them from their gods) he is a much greater threat than if any of the Wizards were to attempt to overthrow the world. Had the Wizards not been weakened to avoid the damage they would cause fighting him, the five would have easily taken him prisoner and destroyed his armies but alas the gods determined it must be up to Men, Elves, Dwarves and Hobbits to fight for their home.
I think what a lot of people don't realise is that the Peter Jackson movies also took liberties with the source material. Nowerdays those movies are universally regarded as masterpieces, but when they came out there was a lot of hate for them from within what we would now call the LOTR "fandom". The Rings of Power also takes liberties with the lore, particually condensing the timeline and shuffling around the order that some things happen, but people who say that it completely disrespects the source material either are being hyperbolic or simply never read the Silmarillion in the first place. As for the series itself; I like it. It's far from flawless but personally I emjoy it more than the hobbit movies.
Sauron is a maiar. A primordial spirit. The five wizards (Gandalf, Saruman, etc) are also maiar. Sauron went bad I’m not super versed in the original Tolkein lore, but I believe the elven rings are the only ones that Sauron didn’t corrupt becasue he didn’t know about them. Ofc he does know about them in this, but I’m pretty sure they’re still uncorrupted
@@jonmercano1138 didn’t directly corrupt. The Three were still made with his craft, just not his direct influence as the other 16 (the Seven Dwarven Rings and the 9 Rings for Men) were. Because the elves also value different things than dwarves and men (dwarves their riches and men longevity and power) they also didn’t corrupt as much. Generally the elves rings were just for preservation of their nature homes, for healing and for beauty.
Ahh Imon! Lovely to be back to see you I’ve not seen a lot of what you’ve been watching lately but I’m glad you’re doing this series!😊 I really enjoy this show too!
I love that Sauron took out Waldreg…not because I hated Waldreg, but because Waldreg would have been his servant instead of Adar’s if he had been given a chance. Sauron taking him out is just like evil in Tolkien’s world…it destroys itself.
You are not alone in your love for this show! Season 2 has lured a lot of secret fans out of the shadows, to join those of us who were open about it from the beginning. Welcome back to Middle-earth! You are in for a wild ride this season. I just hope they don't take another 2 years to deliver season 3.
can I just say, I haven't had the chance to watch tv shows recently to then watch your reactions, in a while, but I do miss them a lot. sending happy thoughts ❤
I think if you are able to enjoy it for what it is it can be an okay series. I do think that some fans are a little overeager to defend the original work, and I do get being defensive of a property you really like, that you have invested a lot of personal meaning into. For what it’s worth I like the series, understand that others don’t have too, but still think of myself as a big fan. My grandma read me the hobbit when I was little. I remember watching the movies for the first time. All that.
really interesting to watch this at the same time as S4 Supernatural since Sauron and the various Wizards of Lord of the Rings are the equivalent of angels (with Sauron having an obvious Lucifer archangel parallel from the books) --- man keeps talking about "healing" lol
I love the fantasy genre and this show and found your channel cuz of last of us, so if this is not the appropriate place to comment this, I’m sorry: but have you ever considered watching the wheel of time? Maybe after this season??
I'm always so happy when i see someone else that loves this show 🥲🥰 it's the best feeling EVER. The hate is crazy loud. Thank you Amazon for not letting this ride end despite all the criticism. Season 3 let's goooooo!
I don’t care what anyone says, this season was fantastic. Even better than the first, which I also enjoyed.
@@NerdChronic I agree it was awesome!
