- Hey guys, was in the middle of moving and thought this would be a good idea for a quick impromptu video on how I hung my acoustic foam at the old studio. Wish I would have thought about this a few years back and saved myself a lot of hassle sanding and spackling!

This is the problem with youtube nowadays. People taking forever to explain a single point you could otherwise explain in under a minute, if you would just put more time into practicing it.

Thank you! Only figured this out after years of using the glue that comes with many of these foam kits and having to re-spackle and paint the walls when I moved to other houses 🤦🏻♂️ on the bright side, I’m great with painting and spackling now lol
Ditto. This video has saved me a whole load of $$ . I almost went out and bought $$ 3M commander strips with the whole business of sticking cardboard to the back (with $$ spray on glue), before mounting each piece with a strip. Then I thought.... NO! these foam pieces hardly weigh anything and there must be a better way. ALSO in rented accommodation. THANKS!

I've been all day trying to install these acoustic foams to my walls. I've used different kind of tapes and adhesive spray, and they are still falling down after a couple of minutes. Finally decided to search on TH-cam and found your video. I wish I could have seen your video sooner. I spent too many hours already going back to the store and trying different methods. Blessings!

Thanks for this idea! I bought some panels from Amazon a couple months ago and hadn't bothered to hang them in my home office yet. Bought some double-sided tape and was worried how well that would work. Happened to have some of these nails in the junk drawer, got them hung up in about 10 minutes!

Thanks for the tip using the "T-Pins". Hadn't thought of that. I had been using 1 1/2" finishing nails. Worked, but not as well especially when using the 3" foam. Again, good idea.
Thanks! and yeah, made things much easier than most other methods. I know when we finished moving out and had the house inspection, they didn't even notice the holes in the walls from them. So they get a seal of approval from me! haha

I'm trying to get away from needles and misc hardware. Just saw another video using double faced tape stuck to the back side of painters tape to stick your foam to the wall. The painters tape is the most forgiving on paint and wall board. This is the best remedy I've seen so far. It's test time.

@@davidkastin4240 Now that I have completed my room I can honestly say...unfortunately using the painters tape was great in theory but not very reliable. I went thru three phases of materials and processes before settling with what has worked best for me. I did not want to use any spray glues in my room at all costs. After trying three different types of double faced 2" wide tapes...one would stick to the wall but not the foam...another stuck to the foam...[sorta] but not the wall...and finally a tape that stuck to both wall and foam. But neither stuck well enough to be 100% reliable. So I ended up using a combination of 3M multi-purpose spray glue on the foam sprayed outside my studio in the select spots where the tape would be placed. If you have the same size foam pieces as I do, it's important to be consistent with the placement of the tape pieces [4L"x 2"w]. Once I finished each day has been a new surprise...I call it damage control...because the first phase... about 1/3 of the room... was the least reliable and those panels began to come loose and one by one I gone back over those using the third phase process and I have not yet had much problem with those re-do's. The only issue I am experiencing now is the tape is not sticking well to the wall because of fresh paint. I should have used a good cleaning solution prior to mounting the panels. I think that would have made the difference. So instead I was forced to use a slight bit of the spray glue for the loose tape spots, as much as a hated to, I had no choice. As of today the damage control is less and less and I can get back to work on the music stuff finally! I can deal with the occasional panel adjustment over screws or pins or other hardware causing a problem or getting into my gear. Hope this helps.
@@stevend984 Thanks for the update 👍 I am not sure which method I'm going to use. I don't want to put a nail or pin hole in a wall. I'm thinking to use the cheapest caulking and put a dab in each corner and in the center of each panel and will deal with painting it when I take it down. Nothing will stick due to having cold walls from the adjoining apt.
@@davidkastin4240 I considered doing caulk but too problematic and really messy. Set time is an issue also. There's stuff out there that will definitely stick but at what price. I did much research and testing before hand and this is what I ended up working with. Good luck.
@@stevend984 Thanks I'm gonna need all the luck I can get 😂 I've been working on my new place for 2 months already, every day. Caulking and painting, killing drafts. When we moved in it was like living outside 😖 worst I've ever experienced. Very good looking apt with a great layout and planning to stay here long term is why I'm going through so much trouble.

This might be a dumb question and you probably won’t see it 5 years later but is there a reason to hang them in a diamond? Or is that just like purely an aesthetic thing? Lol I have enough to cover the whole section of the wall in a rectangle should I do that?
Was told Command Strips was ok to use on the wall that's covered in wallpaper - nope. Over half the strips I put up pulled out chunks of the paper. I would agree, it's better to have tiny - repairable holes in the wall rather than missing strips of wallpaper. Wish I thought of this.

This was my first idea! Maybe I should have stuck with that. Instead I'm using a small square of double sided velcro tape, hoping it'll do the trick. Not sure it'll be that easy to take off if I move out though...

Thanks! And I cant remember but I feel like I tried with the bass traps I had and they were just too heavy/think to get then to work so I had to just use some acoustic foam glue and just resand and fix the walls when I left. Was a pain! haha

Nails don't work well in hard plaster walls I found with my current studio... I use double-sided mounting tape, 3 little pieces per square. Easy to take off the wall too.
