Hey Andrew! Very helpful stuff. I used to record in a bedroom full of stuff, and never noticed an echo. Since getting my own studio room, there has been a LOT of reverb... Since it essentially has nothing in it except a TV and a computer. I bought 48 pieces of acoustic foam in blue and black and managed to get them stuck with duct tape. They still fall down once in a while, so I might need to order some of those Command strips you mentioned and see how it goes! One wall seems sufficient, but I think I'll continue on and do the background wall just for a little more zip in future facecam videos. Thanks for the video. Your production value is awesome! They were priced at 25 for a dollar. Not joking. I bought 500 which is enough to cover all the bare walls and ceiling in my spare room. I even had enough to make a foam shade for the window so I don't get sound bouncing off the glass. I just needed to figure out how to mount them and this video just told me. Thanks for posting! Question. So I have a room right next to the bathroom and well as natural as it is, I do not want to hear people going to restroom. It's a rented property so I was looking into putting some of these acoustic panels. It's a small restroom but do I need to cover the whole wall between the room and the bathroom? Or a certain amount only. Your help will be greatly appreciated
So the panels sadly won’t stop all sound. You’re better off putting like a bookshelf with books and panels. Something to cause a barrier. Acoustic foam will help TREAT a room meaning less echo but not block sound!
I have a question about the placement of the panels, I am looking to buy these to help keep the noise from my room a bit lower from outside of my room, ive been told by family that they can hear me pretty loud even if I'm not being tbat loud, should I just place the foam sections along the wall where the door is and on the door(where the sound would be going through) , or should I put some all around the room? The wall alongside the door is connected to my sister's room, the door connects to a small hallway which leads to the entrance of the families rooms, thats why I think that whole wall may just be good enough, but if it would be better to place them around the other walls too then I will
hey there passive. As I mention in the video it's not the same thing as sound proofing. It will help a bit, but not enough to eliminate it. You might be better off with sound blankets, or moving bookshelves on the wall your family is. Really it's to help with echo, sound panels, or moving blankets/ sound blankets can help too. My upstairs neighbors in my apartment complex complain about the noise I make while I record audio, if i were to completely cover my cieling with acoustic panels would it help reduce the noise I cause at all?
Yo so I’m going to be recording myself rapping on a corner desk so I’m putting the sound tiles in the corner of my room on each sides of the corner to catch my voice will that work to prevent echo btw I bought 12 so I’m going to have them cover as much of the sides as possible
hello AB 10 this won't sound proof a room, it just stops sound from reflecting around the room. I made this video: th-cam.com/video/lJuiRYfKQ5c/w-d-xo.html on where to install acoustic foam for more help.
Hey! I followed your instructions regarding the command strips, but my acoustic panels have been falling off my walls time and time again, and I don't know why! I have tried putting them back up with new and stronger command strips, but they always fall off! Any idea of what might help or what the problem might be? Thanks
I haven't had this issue. I would reach out to command themselves. There are also tpins that are like 2 inches can get 100 for 7 bucks. Sorry it's not working well. Command has been pretty good with refunds from what I've been told.
Where am I supposed to place the acoustic foam? Is there a specific place? Also after installing the acoustic foam should the rest of the walls in the room have soundproof foam on them? Please reply thanks.
You install them wherever you want to treat, I have them on one wall, and have corner pieces, but that is all up to you. Are you going to record Video?
Hey Cinema Arts! It's not a dumb question at all! It is reusable, and I've used my acoustic foam in multipe different studios (Apartments) I've moved to!
Thanks for the video and the information about soundproofing. All the time we think about soundproofing walls. But can we use those panels in the ceiling? I have my studio in the basement and the noise from the upstairs is ridiculous. Thanks in advance for your comments
A little long ide say for a simple set up. But be it so. The simplistic nature of how you taught it allows a 5 year old to be able to learn how to do this. A+ performance 👏 thank you 🔥
Hi there thankyou for the video. In thinking of just getting a mattress and putting it in front of my door to block out sound. Got some noisy as housemates
The "after install" reading sounded quite a bit better than the "before." This was a great video for those wanting to improve recording quality in a room, but what if your end goal is blocking out the bass speakers and the loud trucks revving up for hours at a time outside? I live In a rental house, and I prefer to not commit any crimes to satisfy said goal lol. I'm just not sure what to buy and what would work best for this?
For that having curtains that specialize in dampening or getting moving/ sound blankets can help a bit, but may not look the best long term. I too rent, and most solutions are not as easy. If any comments have ideas please share!
wait, dense question. did you apply rubbing alcohol on the foam as well? I assume yes and I doubt it does any harm even if not necessary but I want to confirm.
The command strips I applied the pressure the packaging asked for, and it's never let me down! It's pretty much double sided tape, but one side is covered and allows you to add pressure to the foam, to get it to stick! It has a convenient pull tab to make it easy to remove!
Do you know if it would be ok to leave studio foam in it's compressed (shipped) state for a couple weeks? Or should i take it out and start the shape recovery process right away?

So my only caution is this will not soundproof only muffle a bit and help with reflections. It will sound better in room but won’t stop the noise. Other than that glad this helped! Happy New Year!
@@AndrewK I figured it wouldn't. My room is the farthest from the inner wall so I'm not terribly worried about it. Thanks man, happy new year
Does it matter which way they face? Horizontal and vertical ..
I used 12 x 12 squares so no, but drpends the size and how much coverage you want
Is it okay if I put the panels on one wall? As my set up is positioned in a weird manner almost in the corner I don't know which wall to start from
That's fine ideally you would have it on both. You could also push something against the wall to help with the sound
@@AndrewK thanks!
My upstairs neighbors in my apartment complex complain about the noise I make while I record audio, if i were to completely cover my cieling with acoustic panels would it help reduce the noise I cause at all?
What audio do u record?
Yo so I’m going to be recording myself rapping on a corner desk so I’m putting the sound tiles in the corner of my room on each sides of the corner to catch my voice will that work to prevent echo btw I bought 12 so I’m going to have them cover as much of the sides as possible
Smart plan!
just got them yesterday in the mail. Purple and black and I'm putting them in today in my new bedroom
Hey Tarrabyte awesome! How are they working for you? :)
This was a great video thx for the help. I personally prefer sound proofing my room when I game
Hello LSD-Rick B-172 I understand that! I just wanted to make sure people understood the difference :)
@@AndrewK yeah but you Told us to comment what we prefer to use
I know I agree with you and am thankful for your comments :)
@@AndrewK yessir
I can’t get the command strips to connect because I can’t push hard on the foam
Sorry about that 😕
Andrew Kan I just had to use more strips and skip the step where they tell you to peel it back and then reattach
he sounds so professional
I hope that's not a bad thing :X
Such a high quality video. Thank you for the info
ZKTV thank you for watching! I hope it helped you out! Do you have any questions?
Andrew Kan I'm actually not gonna get them because I don't need them I just thought they looked cool.
ZKTV that's fair! Thank you for watching!
Strips did not stick to the foam. Had to nail them in.
Sorry to hear that :/
Im thinking about it becauae my house souns very hollow and my neughbours can hear everything even when i snap my finger. Those this work for that
This will help sound reflect less, but not sound proof :x
@@AndrewK thank you for taking the time to awnser me
the command stripes do not connect to the foam itself I honestly don't know how you got it stay up. Foam keeps on falling off the foam
I have done this a few times and have never had issues sorry 😞 there are also tpins as an option
Thank u for information
Hi andrew, do i need to cover the whole room? Or just behind the tv?
hello AB 10 this won't sound proof a room, it just stops sound from reflecting around the room. I made this video: th-cam.com/video/lJuiRYfKQ5c/w-d-xo.html on where to install acoustic foam for more help.
sadly it didnt work for me it stuck for a few seconds and then it fell off and I did everything you said so Imma try using tacs
Sorry to hear that 😞
Hey so I bought 150 square foam panels for “soundproofing” my room….. did I mess up? If so any suggestions?
It's not really going to soundproof the room. Just eliminate echo and sound reflection in the room 😥
Will it help with sound traveling through the wall I put it on?
Totally great stuff, enjoyed all the information you gave us...thanks 🌸
Thank you for watching! Do you use acoustic foam?
@@AndrewK Okay thanks, I'll look into that!
Andrew Kan no music, how am I supposed to know what wall to treat? I will be recording in my bedroom
Then if you are doing music, all of the walls, you will want as much control of the sound as possible.
Andrew Kan Then I guess what I should be asking is how do I place soundproofing foam and acoustic foam evenly throughout the walls of my room
You can use a tape measure, to decide how high you want the foam to be, and then use it to also make sure the panels are straight!
Probably a dumb question but is the foam reusable if you take them down and store them?
Hey Cinema Arts! It's not a dumb question at all! It is reusable, and I've used my acoustic foam in multipe different studios (Apartments) I've moved to!
Thanks for the video and the information about soundproofing. All the time we think about soundproofing walls. But can we use those panels in the ceiling? I have my studio in the basement and the noise from the upstairs is ridiculous.
Thanks in advance for your comments
Did you ever figure this out? Daughter in basement, and father up above. Both complain about noise. Anyway to fix this issue?
This is very helpful. Thanks man!
You're welcome Liem Garcia Official ! Happy to help I hope this helps make it easier on Acoustic Foam :D
That can work hahaha do what works. Sorry about them though 😕
Can you place the panels over a wallpaper?
Great question, In theory you could, but I would maybe use a stronger method than the command strips :D
Can this foam help with Basements bedrooms to keep noise out of the room from upstairs noise?
Hello Denise A they won't keep noise out, but will help reduce echo and cut some noise. I hope that helps!
wait, dense question. did you apply rubbing alcohol on the foam as well? I assume yes and I doubt it does any harm even if not necessary but I want to confirm.
Hello @Myrashenka no I didn't just the wall :)
Are they good for apartment bedroom ?
That's what I have them in mine!
Film school nice! What school did you attend? I’m going in for my first year in a couple weeks!
Academy of Art! Best of luck to you 😁
EXCELLENT video.
Thank you so much.
I use a 40x60 project board and tac glue and float it
Does sound proofing a room prevent sound from escaping it? For example, if I set this up in my room will someone outside hear me less?
Well these won't sound proof as I said in the video. They help with sounds bouncing around the room
@@AndrewK Ah, sorry I missed that part. However, I do want to give you props for answering so quickly on a 3 year old video.
I do my best to help anyway I can 😄
What do you mean when you say it won't work if "not installed correctly"? Is there something I need to be careful of when installing?
They'll fall off the wall like shown. Hahaha 😅
@@AndrewK Ah, okay haha. Thanks for the reply!
Hi Andrew, I have good dubbelsided tape, but the tape doesnt seem to stick to the foam, any tips? how does yours stick?
The command strips I applied the pressure the packaging asked for, and it's never let me down! It's pretty much double sided tape, but one side is covered and allows you to add pressure to the foam, to get it to stick! It has a convenient pull tab to make it easy to remove!
Do you know if it would be ok to leave studio foam in it's compressed (shipped) state for a couple weeks? Or should i take it out and start the shape recovery process right away?
I left mine in for a month before filming the video and came out fine 😄
Andrew Kan Awesome thank you! I ordered 96 of them and their compressed into 4 small squares. I’ve been trying to find this answer, thank you!!
@@MDCreate of course and usually they come with instructions and tell you if you need to or not 😁
Are those 3m Strips are velcro or just sticky on 2 sides ?
The ones I used are sticky on both sides!
how can the foam be installed incorrectly?? To where it wouldn't absorb the sound, how is that possible
Some people can install it on the wrong side, some people place it too far away from where they're recording. You'd be surprised :)
Do the command strips hold well with the foam? In my experience foam doesn't work too well with adhesives
They have for me some have said it hasn't.
