skilsje34 game's thank you! My best advice is getting down to a harbor and hitting up some boats asking around for a job. Bigger boats grind so they’ll typically want some experience before hiring. It’s hit or miss finding a boat with a good captain and crew, might take you a couple attempts (seasons) before finding a good one. I say a couple seasons because no one wants to hire a deckhand that doesn’t finish a fishing season. Best of luck to you if you do search for a job.

This video is really nice! Since you said you only fish certain times a year I suspect it isn't your full-time job? How did you get this job? Did you just apply as a seasonal deckhand?
Yeah you are correct, it is a seasonal position. I grew up working on fishing boats, while my step dad owns one. I landed this gig by just knowing the boat owner and going to school with his son. I will say some boats require an application of some sort and other boats you can literately step on and start without anything. The better the boat, the harder it is to get on board.
Yeah it just takes a lot more room in the cook pot, plus the little kids don’t like the discoloration. In a perfect world, I’d cook the crab on the boat in ocean water, that’s the best imo.
This is an awesome vlog man! I live way out in the desert but I’d love to be a crab fisherman out in WA. How do you get your foot in the door in that line of work?
Honestly getting yourself into a harbor well before the crab season and walking the docks asking around for any positions open on boats. Some boats chew thru their employees, so you’ll eventually find something for a foot in the door. Good luck!
