I grew up around horses and had to repair saddles every once in a while. I learned a lot from my grandfather, but I've not worked with leather in years. However, I'll give it a go. I don't have a video camera, but I hope to rectify that issue soon.
Thanks Karen. My Mora was actually next in line for a sheath until I bought this cute little knife :) My first stitching was bad too but show everything. It shows how you progress :)
It is really easy and very satisfying. The stitching is really the most tedious part but if you use the leather cement you can do project without the stitching. Make some videos! :)
You gouged out 2 lines on the front. On one of those lines you used a tool to layout where you were going to drill the holes. Is the other line just for visual appeal? Thank!
Wow great video Tony with GREAT music! I really like this design! I need to make a neck sheath for my new Mora! I made one for my smaller Mora but I think the second time around I will be better at it..lol..lol..my stitching on my first one looks yuccy!..lol Take Care
Nice work, I've pretty much given up using the auto awl as using saddle needles is less fiddly. I stitching in both directions like the snakes on a medical symbol so its also stronger and a cut on one stitch doesn't ruin the finished item. Also even with leather this thick a bladed tool can stab though on your stitch marking and is faster than a drill, I've used one at a pinch. Keep it up.
I was waiting for the part where you soak the leather in warm water to make it more pliable. Any reason you didn't before threading and shaping ? I'm no pro , but this is what I see most leather workers do. Thanks for the video. Peace
No, no... claim it was for artistic effect. lol I'm a woodworker when I get in the mood and some of the best details I've ever done were because I screwed up what I had originally intended to do. :-)
Loved the music and editing style on this one. Excellent job, Tony.

I screwed up on one side so I put another one on the other side :)
Thank you James for watching!
Just a typical utility knife. I like them because they are very sharp but easy to change blades. The leather dulls them quickly :)
I have a belt and disk sander but this one was so small I thought I would skip that step! :) Thanks!
I made a much cruder sheath by soaking one piece of leather in water, folding it over and riveting down one side. Much easier.

I did not know it was that simple of a process. Im thinking of giving it a shot.
Awesome! You have inspired me to have a go at it. Thanks for the video, Tony.
Thanks for sharing Mr. Tony. That's nice looking sheath. And cool music too :)

Sorry I get it now :) I need to look at the safety cord thing.
I always love your projects, glad I came across this video today.
Thanks! I gave this one to Bane, James Yeager's grandson :)
I know you said the the stitching tool was a leatherworking tool. Were the other things you used to trim the leather just wood shavers?
Thanks Krysta!!!! :)
Thanks! I have made a few for myself.
The functionality is not as good but the satisfaction factor makes up for that :) Thanks!
Very cool. Love the knife, too.
Thanks for watching! :)
Thanks!
You do beautiful work. Do you do holsters?
