Mae Hong Son Loop: Pai to Mae Hong Song Day Two

  • I make my way to Mae Hong Son and in the process climb 1,400 m. It's the most I've ever climbed in a single day. This makes it another long hard day but I'm very well rewarded with some great views. The following day I spend a rest day relaxing in the quiet little town of Mae Hong Son. One of the highlights of the day off my bike was discovering the airport that honestly couldn't be any closer to the town centre if it tried!

    If I had to choose between larvae under the skin, riding a bike up steep hills or punctures I'd have to take the puncture. Even if we break a pump or run out of CO2 we can stuff a tyre with grass and we get to chill while looking at the view. Great vid enjoying the tour and the sights.

    Between the climbing, the flat tire, the rain, and the bot fly larvae I'd say this was a really tough time. But.........you were getting it done while I'm just sitting on my butt watching. Good for you JP. I had no idea there was over the counter medication for that larvae.

    The views are what makes the climbs worth it! Great video JP. Btw the best way to avoid tube issues is to go tubeless! :)

    • @Biking360

      I know you're a strong advocate for tubeless. I've now got one tubeless set-up on my Surly ECR. I've had a few teething problems with it but it appears fine now. I'm going to use that as a learning experience before deciding to go tubeless on any of my other bikes. We will see. Ride safe and take care.

    Great effort. If your bike can fit MTB tyres, even better as you will have more options and they provide better puncture resistance. I swapped out my 700c for 650b on my gravel bike so I can put in a 2 inch MTB tyre for comfort and control over uneven surfaces.
    Fukuoka Airport in Japan is smack in the middle of downtown. The road that runs parallel to the runway is only 100m away. I was surprised to see vehicles so close when I landed there.

    • @Biking360
      @Biking360  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, I can't fit anything wider than 45mm tyres so MTB tyres are not possible. Thanks for the info about Fukuoka Airport. That sounds like another interesting airport to either fly into or visit! Ride safe. JP

      @@Biking360 That’s good to know 😊. Yes I’m thinking about Loei or Petchaboon. I’ve been several times to Loei and I feel so comfortable and at home there, it’s incredibly relaxed even in the small city and the people are the friendliest I’ve encountered anywhere! Plus I like the cooler air of those more mountainous provinces. Saw you in some vids cycling where the temp was over 40c - don’t know how you manage it, honestly! Not sure I could.
