  • FIRST SKILL OF GUARD RETENTION BY JOHN DANAHER //
    In this BJJ Techniques video, John Danaher explains Guard Retention and the first skill you need to achieve.
    John Danaher is the most sought after Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor on the planet.
    This is a clip off of the second installment: Guard Retention of his new Fundamental Instructional Series "Go Further Faster."
    Guard retention is a pivotal part of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. There is a common misconception that in order to develop strong guard retention you must be flexible or strong.
    John disproves this theory in every way by demonstrating how to develop, learn and implement world class guard retention through technical knowledge.
    BJJ Fanatics was started by a pair of black belts (Bernardo Faria & Michael Zenga) who feel that nothing is more important than improving your BJJ skills as much as possible in the least amount of time. Their aim was to create a shop for BJJ Students who don’t look at BJJ as a sport - but as a lifestyle.

    How many stripes does he have on his belt

    • @gibbacool2009
      @gibbacool2009 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jacob Robles it depends ! Some belts come with one white stripe at the right end of the red part of the belt and another at the left end ... if that’s the case he a 4 degree black belt.... now if the belt came without the two stripes on the ends of the red then he is a 6 dregree black belt.... a reminder : every black belt stripe means “ at least 3 years as a black belt ...and a black belt gets 7 stripes then it become a coral belt ( stripes of black and Red ) that’s when one becomes a Master of Brazilian Jiujitsu,Oss

    He’s so long winded

    • @alexrosario423
      @alexrosario423 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He's teaching. He's trying to cover several different ways to understand something so that it sticks to different types of people.
      It's obvious you probably absorb better when things are short and to the point (probably because of an attention deficit issue), but not everyone is like that.
      If you're able to pay attention, this style of teaching leads to more retention because the way things stick in our minds is by forming multiple ways of understanding a thing, which forms stronger neural connections in our brain.
      Say what you will about it, but it's obvious his style of teaching is extremely effective considering his track record.

      You are correct. He’s very long winded. He has a degree in philosophy and it shows in his teaching style.

    Shrimping is sport specific. The way it's done in BJJ won't work in another arena like mma.
    There's a better way to do it.

    If anyone wonders who this guy is, John Danaher is a black belt under Renzo Gracie and trained Georges St-Pierre. He is obsessed with BJJ and trains it everyday, and wears a rash guard everyday, even showing up at weddings in a rash guard.

    Actually disappointed. This is designed for Competition and not the original, old school self-defense.
    I will never be in that position in a real fight.
    Butt scooting? Seriously?
    Maybe the next one will be better. 🤞

      If you're knocked on your ass in a fight, and you can't get up, you may find yourself in this situation.

      You actually do need scooting in a real fight situation to manage distance in order to get up safely. You literally see it in MMA all the time, you probably just don't pick up on it because it isn't flashy.
