  • In today's home vlog Tim rants about how he doesn't understand the Alexa lol, he's got some real boomer energy in this one! Then Jackson tells Tim about his store he's building for Disney Springs with his Duplo blocks and shares his business model, it's a pretty good idea! They go to the park and then I cook some delicious lunch, of veg and spicy noodles, it was so so so good! We all go to Target and get some fun stuff when I should be packing my hospital bag, it's packed now though, so no worries! We end the night with a Target haul and a huge thank you for all of the comments and support from this amazing community. We are truly so incredibly thankful for each and every one of you, so thank you! Thank you for watching and we'll see you tomorrow with a new vid!

The babies stayed in the nursery when it was visiting hours 40 years ago when our son was born and 3 1/2 years later they introduced "rooming in" for baby to stay in room with Mama's. They finally recognized the people visiting would be seeing the baby at home. My parents sure were thrilled. Tim be polite to Alexa she'll recognize that and yes you need extra music subscription to have more choices and you just have to be patient with Alexa and keep talking to her. Must admit as a now widow she comes in handy. My kids do laugh at how polite i am to her, please and thank you but she has thanked me for my kindness. Enjoy your nesting time!

When you were talking about your scary situation in the previous video it brought back to many emotions for my husband and I. We had the same situation with my first born. I think that your story was a good reminder to nurses and drs that they way they speak matters. As a little ones teacher we have to be careful w this as well. I’ve seen something 100 times but this is new to parents… and their concern is valid and okay. I’m
Glad u had the third nurse who came to you with a more empathetic mind set. If you are unsure, always best to go in! Your body is doing new things so it is nothing of concern most of the time… unless it is.

Yup, when my kids were born (2004 and 2007), they would take the babies to the nursery so mama could get rest.
With the one born in 2004, they wouldnt discharge me until at LEAST 48 hours after giving birth. The one in 2007 it was a minimum of 24 hours but I stayed a little past that just because I had given birth at like, 3 in the morning so OBVIOUSLY they were not going to discharge me at 3am!
(with my last one, a stillbirth in 2009, i delivered her somewhere around midnight i think? but got discharged basically as soon as the epidural had fully worn off and i could walk without falling on my face, so about 7am.)

Not sure if you’re worried about Jackson getting caffeine for health reasons or if you’re worried about it affecting his ability to sleep? He’s had some caffeine in chocolate already, and also it’s safe enough to give premature babies! Caffeine citrate is a medication we give to premature babies to help them “remember” to breathe. So I hope that makes you feel better.
Also- be careful of chicory root that can make your belly very unhappy!!😳

Rooming In vs keeping the baby in The Nursery only became a thing here in Can. in the mid to late 80s. Moms stayed in the hospital for a week for vag deliveries and 10 days post section. The thought was new Moms needed their rest to recover. Mom's attended classes on feeding, bathing, nutrition, and diapering and easing back to exercise. Babies were brought in for feeding (bottle feeding was pushed, although if you wanted to breastfeed you could request it) Breastfeeding specialist nurses did not exist in the early 1980s. Dads only started coming inside the delivery rooms in the 1970s and it took awhile to catch on. Thoughts on best practice evolve. Most changes occured due to budget cuts. I remember in the 90's they introduced MABLE ( mom and baby leave early) only for moms who knew the ropes and were well supported at home and we had a visiting nurse went to the home on midweek to draw day 3 bloodwork on Mom and check for any problems on baby. Now they discharge within 24 hours. To say it was a different time is a huge understatement.

I was born in Ontario in 1969. My dad was in the delivery room with me and I “roomed in” after I was born. Four years earlier with my sister, my dad was sent away after dropping my mom off, my mom was sedated and didn’t see her baby for most of the time she was in the hospital. Four years makes a big difference in ideology.

I made sure I entertained the oldest until bedtime even if he was dead on his feet ..... more than one occasion he was eating his dinner half asleep. Its a big change from 1 to 2...... but a routine for each child is important

I had my 2 babies in the 1970's and they were still keeping the babies in the nursery room then. They would bring the babies to the mom's for them to feed them and spend a little time with the babies. This also gave mothers a time to recover. The babies were in the nursery for about 5 days and mom and baby went home on the sixth day. If it was a caesarean birth then the stay in the hospital was usually 3 more days. This was in Canada.

My water broke 9 days before my triplets were born at 27 weeks. I was on hospital bed rest at the time. I got up out of my hospital bed to use the commode next to my bed, and it felt like I peed on the floor. Some clear water just came out quickly and unexpectedly. The nurses later told me that my water broke, and that I would be ok as long as I didn’t develop an infection. I was monitored for signs of infection every day. My doctor wanted me to carry the triplets for as long as possible. They told me that one woman actually didn’t deliver until 40 days after her water broke! Very sadly, one of our triplets died when he was only 5 days old, our dear baby Michael, 😢who is our little angel now. But we are blessed that our other two are healthy and 21 years old now. We also have an 18 year old son. We are blessed! Sending blessings to your family❤

I'm old and I was in Medicine, too. Your Q about babies"all in basinets in one room"? In the past, all the newborns were taken from the mom and taken to the "Nursery" There, they were all put in basinets next to each other so that the RNs , on staff, etc. could watch and care for them all together, while the Mom "healed" and received care. in here Ward/room. The babies were then, thru the day/night/ periodically taken back to each Mom for bonding or feeding etc. ...and then after a period, returned to the Nursery Ward. The Glass window allowed visitors/Dad's to come in a view the baby in his/her basinet.
P.S.Starting , in many OB/GTN Hosp 30 yrs ago there started a practice of Mom/baby car in their own room taken care simultaneously by an RN/LPN until "home" day.

Newborn babies for the longest time were basically kept in that nursery area, with the big window, where the nurses could look over them and take care of them. They were brought to the mom periodically but mostly kept in that hospital nursery room. I mean it used to be even if you didn’t have a C-section and were giving birth naturally a lot of times so much medicine was given to the mothers they didn’t even realize they gave birth. They were that doped up. Of course this has massively changed over the years.
There is now research and studies that show certain things that used to be done not only was not that safe for the mother but really not safe for the unborn baby. They also know that allowing babies to stay with the mother after birth, as much as they can or as much as the mother can handle, is a good thing. Even the hospital room itself is different. A lot of hospitals the room that the mother gives birth in is the same room that she’ll stay in after the birth. It used to be a mother would give birth in one room and then be moved to a different room afterwards.
Time changes everything. The most important thing, though, is doing things the way that you are most comfortable with and how you want them done. Of course as long as it’s safe for both the mother and the unborn baby.

Jen, I just wanted to let you know my water breaking stories. With my first one, I was 3 days past the due date, I was just playing a game and all of a sudden my water broke no pains or anyting. Went to the hospital, had to be induced after sitting for 12 hours with nothing happening. With my second one, I was taking a shower and when I got out I was leaking that was three weeks early before my due date.. no inducing that time and it was much easier. So everybody's different, every story is different and I don't think you should feel bad.. you need to do what's right for you and to make sure everything's okay. Take care and thank you for letting us go on this journey with you ❤️

    Fun fact about food labels:
So anyone can say that their product is healthy, but if they mention a specific disease or process it has been accredited. So they can say “healthy soda” without checking but they can’t say “lowers cardiovascular disease risk” without going through the process

The strawberry assai actually has green coffee bean extract in it. All of the refreshers do. I’m a barista at Starbucks and we have many people that don’t know. You are not alone. 😊

Refreshers have green coffee bean extract in it, not green tea. A grande only has 45g caffeine, which one normal cup has 95g.
So not horrible. A tall (small) has 35g.

When I had my daughter she was a c section and I was in the hospital for almost 4 days after having her and the nurses offered to take her out of the room at night for me to rest and they did that on the 2nd night from about 2am till 6am and I slept for maybe 2 hrs of those 4 because I admit I was worried about her hehe :). Jenn I'm so anxious to see new baby soon and both my husband and I are praying for a safe and healthy delivery and recovery, we love you all so much! ❤️

We have echos all over our house. we use them to add things to a shopping list (huge deal in our house for the Momma who shops for everyone) we also use them to set reminders, timers, etc. The music really only works well if you pay for amazon music which is a bummer as we do not anymore since Spotify works better for our family, but I think my husband linked them together. He also has them set up to turn lights on, tell us the weather, and turn our Dyson fan off when we say Good Morning and then Good Night turns it to night mode. It's really useful but a pain to learn.

You guys are doing great. I have 2 boys similar ages apart, now 19 and 16. My older son had a little bit of adjustment issues when we brought his bro home. Resisting the nap might be a little of that. Things will settle down after a few weeks!

Jen, Never feel bad about going to the hospital to get checked out!
I was 36 1/2 weeks pregnant and my water broke, I went into the hospital and they tested me and they said no your water didn’t break, I said well I’m pretty sure it did…they sent me home and sure enough I kept having liquid come out. So I went back in and got tested again and they were like oh your water is broke!
That was with my 3rd baby girl.
I now have a 4 month old baby boy and the same exact thing happened with him, 36 1/2 weeks pregnant and my water broke. I was getting into bed and just felt a little warm almost hot liquid trickle come down. I was sure my water broke. I went into the dr the next morning and they tested me and said it didn’t break. They sent me home, and all day long I was having contractions so I went back in that night cause the leakage got more intense. I felt so stupid, I told my family I can’t believe im going back in the hospital within a 6 hour period but I know my body and something is wrong. And sure enough I went in and they tested me again and this time took a ultrasound of my fluids and my water had in fact broke and my baby was coming. 8 hours later I had my 3rd c-section. Always trust your body and never feel bad about getting checked out!!
Wishing you guys all the best and the safest labor and delivery❤

Back in those days, the mom's were wheeled into a "delivery room" and were often put under general anesthesia to deliver the baby, then taken to a "recovery" room. Babies were put in the nursery. Moms also used to stay in hospital for a week!

It is pretty recent in the US where babies are kept in the room with mom after delivery. Things started to really change everywhere in the late 80s and early 90s. Prior to that, babies were brought to the recovery room to eat and bond a bit than taken back to the large nursery where nurses watched over all the babies. The big viewing window was so dad or other visitors could see baby outside of visiting hours for when baby was in the room with mom.

Tim, we tried the poutine and bacon from the Canada booth and the sandwich from Spain today at universal and I could eat that poutine ALL DAY! Sandwich was really good too; I can see why you had trouble describing it, so many dimensions to the flavour!

Hey! I just wanted to share, if you feel like you are struggling, you’re not alone. I would REALLY suggest you guys read the book Good Inside. You both already do so many of the things she writes about (cause you are amazing people) but she also has help in there for naps, sleep and eating, even siblings! It really did help us so much, I have to tell everyone I know about it, it’s an awesome book ♥️
Oh I forgot to add, our Alexa does the same thing. It used to be better (and she like actually played the song you wanted and even whole albums) but recently they updated the way she plays songs and now our kids all just say “Alexa doesn’t work, can I use your phone” lol
