Most cargo bikes are under powered . they need to be at least 90 NM with the power available at low rpms and assist levels . speed is not an issue but having a lot of available torque from a stopped position is . the difficulty is with more torque comes more heat. there is a german made motor from the German BMZ battery company that has 112 nm available at pedal rates of between 40 to 60 rpms without overheating . the motor was designed especially for cargo bikes but no one seems to be using it which is very strange .i have this motor on my MTB so i can backup the manufacturers claims .its a beast on hills and never over heats .

They just released a new one a couple of weeks ago. Ive seen it-local bike shop was in their release video.
