For the final time for the bozos in the comments - Lopetegui being the wrong man does NOT mean that it was wrong for Moyes to go. The 2 are not mutually exclusive. It’s a basic point that doesn’t require much thinking power, so please stop saying it

"Never drop the con" since you use the term "Mutually exclusive" here is another sentence using it. Just because you didn't like David Moyes it does not make him a bad manager, the two are "Mutually exclusive"
His results spoke for themselves three top ten finishes in four years. A trophy in the other year. Used to be that was all we asked for. Every post war West Ham manager would take that 4 year sequence.

Getting rid of Moyes meant West Ham would either get a better manager, a worse manager or one who was pretty much the same. Getting rid of Moyes was only a good idea if he was going to be replaced by a better manager. There were some fans who were sceptical about Sullivan being able to find and work with a better manager than Moyes.

I think that one's down to Sully not being willing to buy him out of his contract - which is standard for Sully.
The money spent on someone like Guilherme would have been better spent on attracting a Manager that can play a more expansive style which utilises the strengths of the players we have instead of getting in a Moyes Mk2 because he was cheap and available. Until Sully is willing to buy managers out of their existing contracts, we'll always be left with the dregs because any decent manager won't be out of work for long.

It was reminiscent of the Arsenal home thrashing last season. The "continue with Mavrapanos regardless" decision is baffling. Even more baffling was the formation yesterday, with the slow, rash Alvarez dropping into the back line to go 1 on 1 with Jackson, and the error strewn Mavrapanos pressing high and leaving huge gaps behind him - again. He must know that Alvarez is a destroyer and is not fast, so why put him up against Jackson? Todibo was part of the best defence in Europe in 2024 and is quick. Why not play him in a back 3 if that is the formation you want to play? Since when is Antonio the answer to anything these days? Taking arguably our best player off (Summerville) was baffling. Wasting Kudus on the left once he took Summerville off was baffling. Play players in their best position. Any coach who doesn't do that is walking towards the sack in my opinion

FWIW I thought we played really well in the second quarter of the game (shame about the rest). Stonewall penalty denied, that was a game changer. I was amazed at the subbing of Summerville, him and Kudus were on it, unlike most. Bowen was a shadow of himself. Need to get him back on the right and Kudus in the middle until the Fulk is 100% (IMHO). Need to replace Mav with Todibo, the guy just can't deal with through balls. Why was AWB perpetually AWOL? Never saw him in the RB position and he wasn't doing well in an advanced role.

Still a bit too early to write off JLo yet. Although he really needs to look to pick up at least 4 points from the next 2 league games if you even want to finish mid table, let alone even worrying about staying close to the European pack. Despite our shocking defending yesterday I do still think we’re a little better defensively than we were last season, albeit that wasn’t exactly difficult. However, he’s got the attack horrifically wrong so far. How the heck do you get an attack that scored 60 league goals last season and made it look as blunt as anything!? As much as Moyes failed with the defence last season he made the attack so much more effective than what JLo has so far. As much as JLo has got it tactically wrong in the 1st half of the last 2 games, he isn’t responsible for all signings made. That responsibility lies with the man who set the tone last summer by signing the liability Dinos. The man who spoke to the wrong agents in January for Osman and the man who went from Duran to Fullkrug. No Head Coach is a miracle worker if his director of football is signing a load of crap. Summerville is the only one that’s impressed me so far out of his signings and Kilman and Wan-Bissaka was JLo choices according to Ex and ITKs on KUMB. JLo still has my support, but he needs to rapidly start delivering more points before the confidence gets lower in the squad and the rot starts to settle.

Situation feels so familiar with top half of table team wanting to kick on.
If you can’t land the managerial targets you want so that you are left with Lopetegui, then it becomes a direct trade off against sacking Moyes or bringing him in.
As much as I’d 100% say the board should do better to land a better calibre of manager, and they should, if In reality they’re not going to and it is going to be a lopetegui, then you have a direct choice to make.
Got to be realistic with what the board are actually going to do and make the choice based on that.

In fairness the gaffer has been unlucky as he is dealing with such a big overhaul and changing the way we play. Within 5 games we have been up against Aston Villa, Man city and Chelsea, come on that aint an easy run of games. We need to stop the double pivot too, need Soler and Paqueta to get our midfield going as we seem to be going longball from def to front line. This is a 3 year transition. We had/have some ageing players who have played only one way. Arteta was in this situation for 18 months...It will take time. If we finish top half, I'll consider this a very good season. I'm always surprised if more than half the players brought into a team actually work out. For me it will take several transfer windows to reach a level where we can compete for top 7 places. Chelsea have looked good for me this season, while the results haven't always been great, I think they are very underestimated. Top 6 team for me.

@@HammersChat I always felt that the 2 year deal was a get of jail card as we don't sack managers. I'm confident that he'll get another term, as unlikely as that seems now, I think he will get a tune out of us within that two years. Wonder what Arteta's initial deal was?

The results don't bother me. I never expected us to win against Villa, City, or Chelski.
It's concerning that the players look like they don't know what they are doing. They've had since preseason to get to know one another and all the basics.
We shouldn't be playing players out of position. We have at least 2 players per position now.
    Not good enough

Geo, I predicted a 1 - 3 or 4 win to Chelsea. Posted the comment on many shows. Reasoning...... Our desperate lack of pace in the engine room. I have been saying for 2 weeks, "Lopetegui is NOT that guy". But, I didn't expect such an inept performance by Lopetegui. He does not appear to recognise the squads weaknesses when picking a starting 11's SHAPE.

Definitely angry and worried over the result on Sat. But still willing to be patience and see what J.Lo got to offer. With just 5 games in, it is not fair to judge him at the moment. Arteta took about half season to steer his team to move forward. Whoever we appoint, I was expecting a rough ride in the first half of the season. If he can't pull the team together in half a season, that will be very concerning. Don't forgot the team he took over was a Moyes team for the past 4 years. It will take time for the team to un-learn and re-learn the new way.
I have to agree to most people on the weird selection of players at times. But we don't know what is happening behind the scenes where the coaches have the first hand inform as to why they choose what they choose. Got to trust them in the selection. Anyway, their jobs are on the line too. Bad results would also mean off they go when the time is here.

A lot of fans have to grow a pair, we needed a change it starts on the pitch and then the board need to take responsibility, the premier league is getting very boring with teams playing the same. What do I mean about the board taking responsibility they promised us a different style and they said the stadium will be a home for football, there is a lot of stuff to unravel I did see during a video with Bowen there are building works going on the training ground, there seems to be a lot of investment to make West Ham a team a professional would like to play.. but it does start on the pitch! Somehow we have to keep clean sheets, Areola was at fault for the 1st goal.

A video where you show our results and speak about what was our realistic points tally after them all. Fans seem to forget we went up against and lost to a good villa team (just about) thats in the cl. A team thats arguably the best in europe in city and also lost against a team thats spent billions on 40 odd players on massive wages. And weve got points against the clubs we should be getting points from. Theres no need to panick right now give jlo more time. Was we expecting 9 points or more already when weve come up against hard opposition? We got 10 new players its gonna take games and patience. Give the fans a taste of realism instead of thinking we are world beaters who should be winning or drawing against these teams. Thanks
