We produce bamboo rods here in Brazil, our production system is much simpler. But it's beautiful to see the different ways to manufacture fishing rods around the world! hugs from Brazil!
Wow! That was incredible. I have about 5 bamboo Fly rods (old ones). a couple of ebony bamboo ones that are rare to find. I knew they were hard to make, but not that hard. Thanks for the beautiful work you do and the video.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience, many craftsmen like to keep their secrets to themselves, and the skills die with them. Take care :)
Wow that's a lot of work, well because there is no bamboos maybe in your area, here in the Philippines all we need to do is go where there's bamboo like in our backyard before and cut and clean it and put a line and go fishing..well it's another story..nice work of art
i never caught a fish with a rod in my life i dont have the nerves for it i traped it and speared it but thats a lot of work for a rod too much if you ask me but very nicely done i dont like working with wood that much because you never get the same pice and most of the time is spent getting the final finish right
Man, working with wood is practically an art (mastering it anyway), it's not for everyone. It's my personal opinion but I consider wood superior to majority of materials when it comes to furniture and many construction applications.
never used a bamboo fly rod before, but I could never justify the cost of buying one. might be nice for a hobby, but I catch all the trout and bass I want with a $50 outfit. I guess there are people who like to fish and get their identity out of their rods, just as some get it from clothing, cars, wine or anything else which give them as sense of their self worth. But, what happens in the end? now that is something to ponder.
Diggiing this one up from the dead, but I own regular consumer grade gear and I own a few nice rods. The experience afforded by each is entirely different. I fish with both and catch with both. I prefer to use my nicer gear, it performs better and more to my liking.
Great craftsmanship, but that's to much work for me. I'm going to just put a couple of eyes and strap a reel onto a fresh peace of bamboo, thinking about using fiber fix it for all of that. Not sure how long it will last though, surly not as long as the one you built.

Very informative I’ve learned a lot of things from your video. What is the clamp called that holds the section in place in the former please?
Now I see why bamboo fly rods cost so much money. That is a crazy amount of work. Think I will stick to bamboo flutes and houses. lol
Very nice but tell me how to make the planning flat form

what type of bamboo do you use?
Tonkin bamboo is the best option. It's thougher and stronger of something like that.

Sir why the bamboo must be flaming
A silent movie, how very quaint.
time consuming but great craft.i hope technology could change the way of doing all this.
Why?
I hope not. There is a touch on the craftsman that makes every piece unique, why would you want that to disappear?
👌👌👌
