McNabs Island Lighthouse (Halifax, Nova Scotia)

McNabs Island, the largest island in Halifax Harbour, has played an important role in both defending the harbour and guiding commerce into the harbour. Peter McNab purchased the island from the Cornwallis family in 1782, and over time the name of the island transitioned from Cornwallis Island to McNabs Island. Descendants of Peter McNab lived on the island up until 1934.
